Alpine CDA-9855 Car CD/ MP3 Player

I bought this to replace a CDA-9833 which had 26 watt rms amplifier built in, although the CDA-9855 only has an 18 watt rms amplifier the 4 volt pre outs sound better in comparison. If you are not running external amplifiers I would get a CDA-9833 or CDA-9835. If you plan on using the pre outs then I would recomend the CDA-9855. I bench tested the CDA-9855 pre outs. At volume level 28 which is appx. 80% of full level with a 70Hz test tone it puts out 2 volts RMS. With the volume at 33 it puts out 4 volts RMS. The only alpine I have ever had that exceeds this is the 7949, it puts out 5 volts RMS at volume level 35 max. With that said the 7949 was advertised as non clipping pre outs. The CDA-9855 is one of the last good cd players alpine produced. The build quality of it compared to a CDA-9887 makes the 9887 look junky and cheap. The CDA-9855 is a sweet cd player and you will never have buyers remorse if you purchase a used one on Ebay.
