Alone by Lisa Gardner (2005)

Gardner draws you into the middle of a hostage situation where an elite SWAT-team member has but seconds to decide to shoot or not. His decision lands him in hot water, not only with the law, but with his own conscience, and has him wondering if he did the right thing by the victim--IF she WAS, in fact, a victim at all.
You're taken along on a somewhat boring, somewhat bumpy ride through the lives of the two main characters. The ending is quite good, with some twists and turns you won't anticipate.
I enjoyed this book, even though it bogged down in a couple of places, and needed more substance and believability over-all.
