This is a great book for those of you just starting out in the world of creating wire jewelry. You will learn to MASTER basic wire techniques THE RIGHT WAY. Don't develop bad habits, learn good technique out the gate and you will be glad you did! Bad habits are hard to break! Mr. Lareau stresses the importance of technique & he is right. The difference between a good piece of jewelry & a great piece is good basic technique. I think the title of his chapter 'The Perfect Loop' says it all. Something so simple says so much when you look at a piece of handcrafted jewelry.
He also offers a great deal of info that many forget to communicate to folks who are completely new to this art...for example, how to hold your pliers properly and how to sit to prevent injury and stress on your body!
To learn the techniques, you will create loops, bead links, ear wires, clasps, bails, headpins, and more. You will also learn a very basic cage for a marble, wrap for cabochon, bead cap, donut wrap, and briolette pendant. The projects are good starters, the techniques are the most important part of this book. And, Mr Lareau provides full color pictures of complex pieces for inspiration and to drool over :). I read a library copy of this book and definitely wanted my very own copy. Mark Lareau gives detailed, exquisitely illustrated step-by-step instructions for a variety of wiring techniques, from the very basic to quite advanced. His style is personal, humorous, and experienced. I've already used a number of skills from this book in my own jewelry-making with much success. If you'd like to expand beyond the jewelry fittings you can buy at craft stores, this is the book for you!

From beginner and beyond.
) A lot of books show you techniques only for specific projects. This one gives you a good grounding in many basic wire techniques and background on tools and materials. Then you learn how to apply them to some projects that are very wearable. Don't have to go looking for specific beads, but have lots of latitude to make your projects your own. The gallery has some beautiful intermediate and advanced projects to inspire you to take your newly learned skills and make more advanced pieces of your own.

This is a great beginning wire jewelry making book and that is why I bought it. It was recommended to me in a jewelry making class. Easy to follow directions with nice pictures. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys jewelry making and beading.
