A political novel based loosely on Huey Long, it recounts the pluses and minuses of an American dictator. Crawford portrays intensely the Louisiana "Kingfish" and teaches the consequences of being such a character. A must for sociology, political, and historical buffs.

) Wanted to see older version after seeing newer one with Sean Penn. Both had some similarities, but were quite different. Of course this one is in Black & White. Broderick Crawford is more realistic in playing the Huey Long role. Some of the backgrounds and dialogue were interesting. Coming away from seeing both, each had qualities that were better than the other. You, the viewer, should see both, too.
