While All In The Family is arguably the greatest show of all time, even it was beginning to show signs of wear in Season 6. With the constant overload of "other characters" (Irene, Barney Hefner, "Baby Joey"), the show seemed to leave its "family format", and tried for a more 70s-ish sitcom feel.
MANY great episodes remained for the shows final 4 seasons, but each got progressively worse (ESPECIALLY with the introduction of "Stephanie" in Season 8.)
Season 6 can be summed up as the LAST truly great season for AITF, although 7 8 9 and even Archie Bunkers Place remain better than most of the fare shown on TV before or after.
Collectors will undoubtedly love the continual "transformation" of Archie from hardline bigot to misunderstood "softie" as even HE has been weathered down by time. If you own Seasons 1 thru 5 already, then you can view his changes chronologically.
HOWEVER...if you HAVEN'T seen the first 5 seasons, I would recommend you start there, as AITF had more power, humor, wit, timing, and extraordinary acting BEFORE this season came along.
