Alice in Chains - Unplugged (DVD, 1999)

How could such a loud, heavy band hope to make their songs just as powerful using acoustic instruments? Well, on April 10, 1996 in Majestic Theater at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Alice in Chains proved themselves to be so much more than just a grunge band. Though singer Layne Staley was gaunt and weak from problems with heroine, he still had enough power in his voice to perform their hits with oomph. Also, guitarist Jerry Cantrell was sick with food poisoning from buying at a street vendor, but you'd never know it. On this album, they do all of their hits and most work very well in an acoustic format. Everything is appropriately toned down and provide a good balance throughout. "Over Now" sounds especially good, as the original wasn't very heavy to begin with. Great harmonies on this one, too. "Down in a Hole" must have had special meaning to Staley that night because of his previously mentioned condition, as the song is about the pains of drug abuse. He wore great big sunglasses and gloves to try and hide how frail he'd become and it's impressive that he could do so well that night. Everyone did great and and it's too bad more bands don't try a setting like this. It showed a lot of maturity on their part and gained them respect. I wish I could have been there that night, but this excellent CD will have to do.

Its a very good live showing of Alice in Chains. I just wish you can see their videos like Staind's unplugged dvd.

I have had the CD from this show for years, but seeing the show live was awesome. It fills in holes and give much insight into the bands dynamics. A sad sad thing that we will never be able to see them together again.

I wasn't even an Alice in Chains Fan, but checked this out due to recommendations from respected forum members.
I am seriously impressed by this performance by this talented group (RIP, Layne Staley) and the sound quality is captured perfectly on this disc (the best I've heard for a live album)! I now can't believe I didn't discover it sooner, and consider it essential for collectors of good music.

Great sound and picture quality.!! Great songs, all unplugged, which I like better than the studio version.!! If you are just curious, Don't think about, just buy this fantastic performance.! you will love it.!

This a great performance by AIC. Layne Staley is an amazing singer and puts on an amazing show. He sings with a lot of passion and emotion and it really comes through on this DVD. Jerry Cantrell is a rock god. I would recommend this to any one who loves music.

DVD came superfast, I was told it was in very good condition but it was in excellent condition. Price was excellent also. Would definitely buy again from this seller.

Love Alice In Chains and had to get this. It's definitely a must have for any fan. Layne still sounded amazing, and I can watch it over and over again without ever getting tired of it!

Still have not received item! Paid on the 13th of december fr a christmas present and still didn't get the item. Very disappointed.

A time capsule with the best of the 90s. Sometimes is sad to see this show and realize there was so much good music back in the old days, that probably Layne figured the actual scene and abused heroin.
Oustanding sound, and great, quiet atmosphere. Cantrell demonstrating his great musicianship, just like the other members. Guest guitarist showing why he was picked to help these guys too.
It's a must have, a time capsule that captures the inner beauty of a true Seattle band.

DVD was perfect. excellent quality and GREAT COMMUNICATION. shipping took longer than i wanted but was not anyones fault but USPS. I will definitely return!

This is a great DVD, excellent quality of sound. A must buy for all Alice in Chains fans. This is a very mellow version of all their hits but Lane belts it out from the heart.

Wonderful DVD- Just extremely happy to hear and see Layne Staley/ a wonderful musician. Great songs. Too bad he is no longer here to share his marvelous voice with us. A+++++

The best! Alice in Chains MTV unplugged. DVD is 5.1 Dolby and has 3 bonus cuts on it! I would highly recommend this DVD.

I thought this one of the best acoustic sets I've ever seen. I love how they opened up with NUTSHELL, one of my personal favorites. The whole show has a smoothe sound and a solid performance, except for one song where Layne screws up a bit, but they redo it. This is definately a must have for a music DVD lover.

This DVD is awesome! As timeless as Nirvana's acoustic set. Jerry Cantrel's warm vocals and Layne Staley's pain filled, dirty vocals blend together perfectly!

Quick, efficient, and arrived on time. Communication about the handling of the product went fairly well...have experienced a higher level of communication (i.e. shipment updates) in the past with other companies...but...this one functioned very well.

AIC needs no introduction. Their songs sound really good in acoustic and Staley/Cantrell voices can be appreciated in this version. Highly recommended.
