My daughter is taking the course. To ensure she understands the material, I always take her math classes and try to stay ahead of her. I wanted a second text, since I'd never taken Algebra 2 myself; it's taking me longer and I don't want to hold her back. It is very helpful; the book arrived promptly and in great condition; and the price was right!
The Saxon Math series has taken the frustration out of teaching a subject that some of us struggled with or may even be unfamiliar with. I have found that it is much less expensive and time consuming to use the Saxon Homeschool packet which was included in this purchase. This package gives you all of the solutions to the problems in the hardback textbook. The package also includes test answers. If you find, like I did, that the Test Form booklet is missing from your set then don't despair. The booklet can be found with a little research. The textbook breaks down the problems and explains the steps along the way. My son and I find it very easy to follow along. I highly recommend Saxon Algebra 2 to anyone homeschooling or looking for help in this subject.
An amazing, easy, and thorough textbook. I have students who are progressing through the textbook all by themselves without much assistant of a teacher!
I love all of Saxon math! I homeschooled my kids Saxon math in 3rd grade and 5th grade and when they took the national basic test they went from below average in math to above average!! Saxon rules!! I currently am using the Algebra series and finding out their curriculum puts your child ahead up to 2 years! I tell everyone I can Saxon is TOPS!!
I like Saxon Math because it is well put together with extra helpers like the solutions manual and D.I.V.E cd's which help anyone trying to teach Algebra. I have tried several other homeschool curriculums and always come back to saxon. I bought Saxon Algebra 2 because it is the best out there.
Saxon, as always, is great. This Alg II book is pretty tough; we needed to get the solutions manual to go along with it. It's an excellent choice for 10th/11th grade Alg. II.
I went through this cirriculum when I was a junior in highschool. For the most part, concepts were explained very well and it was easy to go back and figure out my mistakes. They provide huge problem sets for practicing after very lesson, and it really isn't necessary to do every problem. Saxon tests you every five lessons, which keeps you studying and reviewing hard. Overall, I would say it's a pretty clear, simple way to learn this level of math.
I teach math in a school that uses the Saxon math program in grades 1-12. I attended a workshop at our local community college to correlate our curriculums to their College Algebra class. As part of this workshop, the teachers attending were given the opportunity to take their math "placement" test. I was pleased to find that all of the questions on the placement test were covered in the first half of the Saxon Algebra 2 book. Successful completion of the Saxon Algebra 2 book should enable students to pass a CLEP test in College Algebra or get an A in the College Algebra class.
I like Saxon because of the cumulative format. Every test is like a practice ACT-Math test. I would recommend, however, that parents who are using it for homeschooling are either (a) strong in math or (b) willing to invest in a video or DIVE CD.
This book was used by the local community college, a few years back, for its Math 0950 Re-Introduction to Algebra for Adult Students course. As a part of the application process for the college, a prospective student must take a basic skills exam. My daughter had not used any algebra since high school and tested to this level for review of basic algebra skills. My daughter found the book and the course to be very helpful and she was able to CLEP out of Math 1010 after finishing this course as her forgotten algebra skills were refreshed very well by the text and the course. The reason that I leave only a GOOD rating rather than excellent is that there is no longer an answer guide available, to assist the students with their homework, that goes along with this book. If someone could locate both the book and the accompanying answer guide... the book is a good way to re-boot all of those long-stored-away memory files of high school algebra that are floating around in the human hard-drive... the brain!
