Fictionalized history of Alaska, Well Done!

Another of Michener's historical novels, Poland is the best and I would vote this as a close second. Well written and historically accurate. A must read for anyone planning on going to Alaska, best read on the long ride through Canada, or one the ferry to Southeat Alaska. Even Alaskans regard this book as " good " because it does not get carried away with the usual tall tales that are so common in most other books.
To understand Alaska one needs to know the history, the road to statehood, the creation of the Alaska Constitution ( which is one that gives priority to the people as owners of the state), the hardships endured by the first settlers, the Russian past, the conflicts between rural and urban Alaska, the history of the Native culture, and why some people love it and stay and some hate it and bail.
