Agnes and the Hitman by Bob Mayer, Jennifer Crusie (2007, Hardcover)

Food writer, Agnes, has had recent success with a cookbook called Mob Food and she and her fiancee, Taylor, have just purchased their dream home, the house she has loved since her childhood. She and Taylor are collaborating on another cookbook, catering a business, and trying to plan a wedding for her Goddaughter in her new home. While things do seem to be running perfectly in her life, there is one snag! Shane the government hitman, who is also the nephew of a mobster, who's sent to protect her. You wonder why? I won't give the plot away, but these zany characters are vividly unforgettable as she and Taylor spend time dodging bullets and actually enjoy it!
The book is well written, very witty! Mr. Mayer and Ms. Cruise make a great team and their writing blends perfectly!

In a fit of boredom my husband picked up a Crusie book one day and found he thoroughly enjoyed it. He passed it on to me (the die-hard romance/mystery reader) with his strongest recommendation. Since then we've both enjoyed her wonderful humor as we've acquired and read her entire back catalogue. Agnes and the Hitman is her latest, and she just keeps getting better! We both laughed out loud and can't wait for her next efforts. I agree with all the previous reviewers. This book makes a delightful read!
