Age of Empires II (Gold Edition) (PC Games, 2001)

..not AoE II: Age of Kings and expansion pack separately. The expansion pack brings features that have been long-awaited (even from AoE 1) like farm queueing (so that farms can be built many times in advance on a same plot, then you can forget about farming for like 30 minutes), and multiple unit production queue, which should allow you to focus more on battles and less on keep clicking units to train, and etc. The new set of civilizations and scenarios are introduced in the expansion pack as well.

I feel that this expansion introduces new, refreshing civs like koreans and mayans with their beautiful architectures (especially their wonders) and civ-unique unit (such as turtle ships). That is not to say that Europe-based civilizations are bad to play, but after playing the likes of the French knights and Briton archers for too long in the original AoE II, the expansions with their new civs are fun to play with.

This game gives you many options as to which civilization you would like to be. The unique abilities of each civ gives the culture an advantage over other cultures. There is a tutorial so if you have never played any of the AOE games you can learn. All in all this is one of my favorite games of all time. You can play thousands of times and never have the same game. The better you get the more dificult you can make the game.

The historical information that is offered in the game is also of some value. Although it may not be exact, the campaigns are VERY close to what happened in history. I recommend this game to parents and players alike. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and there is not much blood or gore so it is safe for many ages.

Age of Empires is a must-have for any serious strategy gamer. Its the foundation of any new strategy game and has been the standard for the past 10 years. Why settle for anything less than the Kings and the Conquerors...the gold edition give you the fun of both!

The Age of Empires II Gold Edition features Age of Empires II and the Conquerors Expansion Pack in one. The Conquerors Expansion is the best part of the game.
For anyone who is into war and strategy, this game is for you. This features civilizations such as Aztecs, Mayans, Britons, Byzantines, Spanish, Vikings, Chinese, Japanese, Turks, Mongols, Persians, Teutons, and French to name most. Each civilization has their own special units as well as their own strengths and weaknesses.
In order to play this game, you must build from the ground up in terms of food, wood, gold, and stone. From there, you advance through the dark ages, to feuadal age, to castle age, to imperial age in an attempt to bring down your enemies.
The most challenging aspect of this game is playing others online. Also, if you cant play this online, try playing some of the scenarios already featured in the game. You can also create your own maps and scenarios as well.

This is the best strategy game I have ever played. Since the day I played it, I have been addicted for the years since. Even though there is an Age of Empires III, I highly recommend this game right here. It is well worth the money.

If you like strategy or the "kingdom-building" sort of games, then you'll really like Age of Empires II. It's the best of them all.
Both Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings and its expansion The Conquerors are very good games.
Even my six year-old sister loves this game.

My wife teases me for being addicted. I could play this game 24/7.

A side note, when I took a class on the history of war, I was one of the only people who knew the different races, the periods, and weapons.

Seriously, it's a great educational tool as well as a great game.

Just make sure you don't have any responsibilities to take care of before you sit down to play.

Age of Empires II has given me a fulfilling challenge for years. When I buy other real time strategy games, their playability never lasts and I always come back to Age of Empires II. Even the new Age of Empires III does not hold my interest like this game. This game was supposed to be my "temporary" replacement for my first favorite game Civilization (the first one), but now Ages of Empires II has become my favorite. My heart may stray from time to time, but I always come back.

This game features high intensity and minimal gore.I recommend this game for geeks or nerds that have alot of time on thier hands(like me or you).You can build your mini civilization and order soldiers,workers,animals and create an army while looking out for enemies.Overall i liked this game but it became repeatative after the 3rd time..3/5 stars...

I love this game, its so much commanding real people that lived in that era. This is a great break from the normal life, but be warned, this game is addicting! Have fun!

This game is the best one my son has played. He can use his imagination to build and construct towns, armies, battles, castles, even land development. The whole concept is great. It is accompained by good and diversified music and he has learned about different empires in history. Highly recommened.
