Great, but not my fav Wharton title
This is Wharton's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, and I can see why because it is a true example of excellence in literary fiction. But I prefer her other works, especially House of Mirth.
Age of Innocence felt agenda-driven (a critique of the upper echelon New York society and its shibboleths) as opposed to the character-driven Lily Bart in House of Mirth.
AOI is still a worthy read, but don't stop there. Wharton was prolific and one of my all time favorite authors!
