Age of Empires (PC Games, 1997)

Very good game, I still play it to keep up my strategy skills. All newer strategy games are bassed of this model.

This is one of the best PC games ever developed, period. Granted, it is nothing compared to AoE II and III, but it broke so much ground when it was created. I was so addicted to this game when I first started playing it back in 1997. There are lots of different scenarios, campaigns, multiplayer mode, great audio, and awesome gameplay! If you've only played AoE II or III, give this one a shot, and you'll see why this is on so many people's greatest games list.

Age of Empires, in my view, is a perfect strategy game. Ok we'll start with the playabilty. I don't think there's any game or series I have played more than AoE. The possibilites are endless... what about a deathmatch with victory conditions set to conquest for a huge game. Add a little twist... pick large islands for your map type and barricade your island by building watch towers and a wall all around it. Oh, and then build up a mighty fleet of juggernauts (ships) and attack by sea. Or how about choosing eight player mode and allying with a few of them, then unselecting the Fixed Positions option and placing your civilization next to your allies. For a touch of reality why not play Persians versus Greeks? I could go on forever. Then we have graphics and audio. The graphics are beautiful, the objects are solid so you don't get that annoying "soldier walking right through tree" effect. This game is not new so that's quite an achievement. The colors are bright, not dull or depressing. Audio, well could be better. Repetitive backround music plays continuously. As for the CONS I'd have to say: The population limit. The limited audio. The initial difficulty of moving through the Ages. That's it. Get this game if you like strategy!

This is just as good as every other age of empires games ( not counting age of empires 3)... Takes no skill just fast clicking, or you can play with alot of skill and slow clicking.

This game has exceeded all my expectations for an entertaining, fun game. It has also caused me to remininesce fondly of the old days when I first bought this game when I was a little kid and I watched my brother play it. That is the reason why I bought this game and I am glad that I did. I have always been a fan of the Age of the Empire games and buying this game reminded me so much why I am a huge fan.

I bought this for my son who had this game but lost it. I was happily surprised to see that it was listed on ebay. Even more happy that it arrived in good shape and worked. He plays it often and we are happy with our purchase. Price was great, and so was the product.

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE GAMES THAT ONCE YOU START PLAYING IT YOU WONT WANT TO STOP. IT IS A STRATEGY GAME, IN WHICH YOU GET TO BUILD YOUR OWN CIVILIZATION. YOU SHOULD TRY IT AND YOU WILL LOVE IT.
