This series of PBS videos is something I've used in my classroom for many years. The series documents the lives of Africans in America, and it discusses how, why and when Africans were brought here, the Transatlantic slave trade, slavery in the US, problems in the new world, and the Constitution. It's an excellent and thorough look at the people who made our country great in record time, and it is enthralling to watch.

It is an excellent portrayal of the experiences of the African journey from the motherland to countries where they would endure the indignities and injustices of the slave trade.
Well written, produced and directed- It should be required viewing for high school and elective for graduate/undergraduate programs.

African In America - A journey through slavery

This was a decent documentary. However, there is also an audio version of this available. It is far superior to the DVD. For some reason the DVD was just to general in the visual presentation. In the audio version, you have to use your mind and imagination, which can be far more detailed and graphic.

I would have to agree that it should be shown in our schools. However I believe it should go a step further and be shown to middle schoolers who have no idea about african american history. Though I think MLK and Rosa Parks were great in our history, and they made a big difference in our country. However I believe that we should go deeper expecially since they only teach it once a year...in February...This movie should defenatly be apart of the curriculum, because I learned soooo much though this documentary and most of the things that was in it, I didn't know, so what does that say about what is taught in our schools on "Black History Month" not only myself, but my husband as well...and even if it isn't for the school. It is a good docuementary to have for your home, and my 6th grade son watched and was intrigued asking questions and really getting the full picture as we watched it...so get this movie and share it with as many people as possible. It is very well worth your money!!!
