The great boyhood adventure

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is certainly more playful than its counterpart (also by Mark Twain), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn is much darker, longer, and clouded with satire about the politics of the day. Sure, it's brilliant, but I daresay it's not near as much fun to read as Tom Sawyer. This book, which is semi-autobiographical in nature, explores Tom's adventures growing up in a small Missouri town. Tom looks for treasure, "battles" Indians, and generally causes trouble in this fun-loving kids book. It is something kids can appreciate in the middle grades, so they definitely should have it in their collections!
