The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Signet Classic Ed
Everyone who has read the book has their own opinion about whether they like Twain's book or not. I have read the opinions of editors, professors and writer's about whether the book is racist or should even BE READ. We should remember that the book was written over a century ago and is set prior to the Civil War. We cannot put 21st century attitudes on a 19th Century book. Huckleberry Finn is an adventure story as well as an anti-slavery book. Any adolescent or older reader can appreciate both messages. I hadn't read the book since 6th grade. I had to read this particular edition for a class to renew my teacher certification. My suggestion is simple read the book. Don't over-analyze. If Twain was to come back today I don't think HE could convince the critics that his book should be read. If you like adventure stories and books and can handle a book with societal messages you will enjoy The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
