"Leaping Lampreys!"

This was my absolute favourite show when I was a kid. I even used to practice how to throw water balls in the town pool every chance I got!
I mean this is great stuff. Colourful & silly & wonderful with that cool Filmation meets DC Comics design style (& it's amazing how many episodes are actual simplified adaptations of actual stories from the comic, including some by the original writers).
Great voice cast too, including Ted Knight from the old "Mary Tyler Moore Show" (I wonder if he ever knew that he had the same name as the secret identity of the Golden Age superhero Starman?).
Are there any flaws? Yes.
Other than the fact it comes in one of those awkward folding cardboard boxes, there is a very slight distortion in some of the music tracks which is most noticeable in the opening & closing credits (it may only been in the set I got but I doubt it because it's the same in every episode).
Picture quality is okay but not perfect, but as can be said with some many of these collections of old TV shows you thought you'd never see again, you're getting all the episodes so you can't complain too much.
The set comes with a nice little documentary on the history of the Aquaman character, although I would like to have seen more of a "making of" piece on the show, especially if would explain why Filmation chose a WALRUS as an underwater pet for the heroes (I guess the Sea King's actual longtime sub-sea sidekick Topo the octopus would have been too hard to animate...).
Would I recommend this? Yes, although the flaws I mentioned above bring the rating down from "Excellent" to "Good", although what's here is still very, very good indeed.
