Addiction (DVD, 2007)

This DVD (and there is also a book by the same name) finally puts scientific data to the addiction problem. Addiction is an illness (not a character flaw) and needs to be treated like an illness.
The series covers real people from all walks of life including the union pipefitters, teenage run away, young mother's who cannot care for their children and many more who are involved with substance abuse. It also provides an insight into the suffering of the family of addicts.
But there is hope! Treatment is improving with the use of medications that help cravings and therapy.

This is a very informative special that I would highly recommend. It happen to come out as our family was in the grips of dealing with teenage addiction and rehab. The entire special was presented in a way that was both educational and eye-opening. These are real problems that face real people every minute of every day. Listening to the addicts is heart breaking to realize that much of this is out of their control. The challenges that they face every day they stay clean makes them all heroes. The doctors presented the material in a fashion that the average person could understand; no doctorate needed. Some of strides they are making in their fields are incredible and are show in detail. If your family is in the grips of addiction, you have to watch the entire series. You will find useful information in each segment.

We work to educate about Domestic and Sexual Violence including the links to Substance Abuse and Mental Illness. This material is excellent for educating about the Disease of Addiction. Show it everywhere you can.

Bought it on a buy it now at a slightly higher price because I needed it in a hurry. NEVER received the item. Seller never shipped it or responded to my e-mails. I put in a claim with paypal and received all of my money back in the process. Ebay has got to take a serious stance to remove and show no mercy to these horrible sellers. It makes ebay look bad and I told everybody about my experience. Therefore ebay will lose business because of these bad sellers.

I liked that it was factual, while offering real accounts of families facing addiction crises. I would like to have heard more from recovering addicts or addicts facing the choice of recovery. There were lots of interviews with professionals.

I am using this dvd series as part of my outpatient A&D groups. I can show one of the small sections and it opens up discussion amongst group members. It is a very informative series.

I am a highschool teacher and this is an excellent video for any health class. I would also recomend this for those wishing to understand addiction in general(Teachers, youth workers, parents and anyone who knows a person who is dependent). There is also a very interesting teen addiction segment and brain research.

good video, use this for my drug and alcohol groups and family programs. It is a great tool to have. Very educational.
