The Sound quality is above average. You must find the best Location when setting up. You will have to move to different locations to find the least amount of interferance from other signal radiated sources. If you do you will be happy with the quality of sound. Negatives are the volume control could be a little higher but since Cable channels are at differnt levels you will hear some channels lower than others so if you turn all the way up and change to a higher level channel you won't blow out your eardrums. So this prabally was done to prevent lawsuits and ear damage. If you find the best location away from interferance you will have minimal or no interferance at various locations. Comparable to the the Sennheiser 110 Model which would get an (A) and AR-AW-772a (B) but worth it if you like to take the time to orient the location of this product.

  AW772 pros and cons

Pros: very convenient, always ready to go, comfortable, good separation, good sound except as noted below, automatic dialing in of correct channel

Cons: Signal comes and goes even as close as 20 ft, or how you turn your head. Even with signal, background noise comes and goes. Still much better than the Radio Shack phones these replace! I suspect some kind of interference, but this is still a problem on all three channels even with in house wireless telephones and wireless router turned off.

Sound quality is very good. I can wander the house an still receive the audio of the tv program. Reception fades and starts to cut out the further away from the base unit you get, also if the battery charge gets low. But for watching tv and not disturbing others it is great. For the price of $25 or less you can't go wrong! Two thumbs up.

AR Known as reliable in Audio the AW-722 - no exception

I do not think I have ever read a product review without some negative reviews, if you did, it was on the company’s website. Like Olympic Scoring throw out the highest and lowest scores/reviews and you’ll have something in the middle, much like these headphones.
If you think for the money you will pay that you are getting the best on the market, bottom line, you are not. But for the money you will pay, you should not be disappointed, in comfort, style and performance.
The AR AW-722 replace my Advent Wireless Unit, which was also a nice middle of the road pair that I got many years of satisfactory use from and coincidentally made by the same parent company of Acoustic Research, which would be Thomas – who also make Jenson and RCA.
I agree with the other reviews I have read there is some occasional static, which can be minimized by proper placement of the base unit. Oddly, and this happened with the Advent as well, there seems to be no rhyme or reason for the static as you can be 10’ or 100’ and just turn your head a certain way. Now I am sure there is an actual scientific explanation based upon the internal antenna or the like, but is not annoying enough to care about – adjust your head a few centimeters and problem solved.
A nice feature that these have is that the recharge connection is now contactless, just set them in the cradle and they are good to go. I hated having to remember to ‘plug’ the Advent in. Side note on this item though, I do not use my headphones a lot, maybe for an hour or two every week late at night so as not to bother my wife while I finish a movie or the news. With the old pair I used to worry about overcharging and for this reason and had them plugged into the ‘switched’ plug on my stereo as it was on frequently enough to keep them charged. It seems that if the base unit is not powered on the AR and the head phones are cradled they can discharge back through the charging base?!? So I had to make sure the base is on a full time powered plug/unswitched. The AR fortunately has a more advanced charging unit and will hopefully maximize the life and use of the battery
Last note on wireless speaker products, if you are noticing some new unusual problems with reception and product function, you probably have maxed out the usefulness of your rechargeable batteries.

  Junky Headphones

Headphones look nice, but performance is poor. Mine shutdown after about an hour and the only way I can get them to work again is to disconnect the power from the base for a minute. Sound quality is poor most of the time. There is a lot of static no matter what channel I use and no matter how close I get to the base.

  Acoustic Research Wireless Headphones AW-722
Review created: 08/02/09

These headphones appear to be brand new even though I received them in an open box. I am sure they will be great when I put them in operation. I have purchased ARC wireless headphones through retail outlets in the past and have found that the quality of sound and noise cancellation is as good as or better than any other brand.

The order was processed quickly and shipped in a very effective manner. Thanks for selling them to me.

Regards,
Jim B.

I am hearing impaired and use bilateral hearing aids. I used to drive my family out of the house with the tv audio too loud when not wearing my hearing aids. The wireless headfones are perfect for watching tv and listening to stereo while not disturbing others.
