This review is being written by someone that has played 3 different Ace Combat games. As a previous player I see that there is not much change from Ace Combat 5, now the game story is really well done, the graphics improved a great deal and the voice acting is great. The controls are the same as Ace Combat 5 and the 2 player Head to Head mode is great specially with people that know what the are doing. On the down side this game is very short in comparisson to Ace Combat 5, I believe there are about 17 missions in total. It took me a couple of weeks to beat it, playing a couple of hours every couple of days. For anybody that like AC5 this is a must play game. The fighter planes are different than most have seen before and they are very strategical in fights. Previous experience will give you an edge on this game but it's not a must. It's an excellent game to keep specially to challenge other fighter planes from home.

ace combat is pretty much the best game in airplane sims. what i like about this game is the variety of airplanes you can use. however, this prequel to ace combat 5 was a bit of a disappointment. the mission gameplay repeats all over. the graphics are the best as always and it shows in the cinematic dog fights. there's a new twist to the game which shows you your fighting style as an ace which are mercenary, soldier and knight ace. each style generates different message transmissions during the game. enemy ace squadrons also appear for you to fight. each squadron has their own strategies and each ace style has its own set of aces for you to encounter. overall, it's a good game to play. if your new to the ace combat series, this game wont disappoint you.

Ace Combat Zero is a prequel to the Ace Combat series, You get fully up to date graphics and gameplay, while finding out what happened to set up the wars in the Ace Combat series. There are fewer yes-no types of questions than in previous games, and less character development, but the mission tree is much more nicely done - you often get to choose from "land missions" or "air missions" depending on your personal preferences. Also, your aircraft can now be configured to have the missile types that you enjoy using the most. The cut-scenes have been improved with a more realistic look to them, but in game graphics are about the same as Ace Combat 5. That's not to say they are bad - you get high quality views of the planes you're in, the landscapes you fly over and detailed towns beneath you. It's really rather impressive how well they can render an entire "world" in 3D, in real time as you zoom over it. The voice actors seem reasonably good, helping you feel involved in the air battles, and the soundtrack is epic in scope without overwhelming you or bombarding you with inappropriate modern music. You only have one wingman at a time, compared to previous games where you could have multiple wingmen. Occasionally there are other flyers on your side in the sky - it's just that they are not under your direct control. You can specify what types of targets your wingman goes after. If you're a two player fan, there's now a versus mode where you can fly head to head against a friend and test out your skills. On the downside, the game is MUCH shorter than Ace Combat 5, so if you're a good flyer, you'll finish quickly. Still, you can go back and replay multiple times to get all the endings and to earn all the medals. A great game for flying combat fans - and especially for those who enjoy the Ace Combat series and want to learn more about its history. Well recommended.

"Yo Buddy, still alive?"

I have played some of the previous games in the Ace Combat series and I was hoping that AC0 would live up to my expectations. Before purchasing this game I had viewed pictures and clips of AC0 at various gaming sites online. The look and feel reminded me a lot of AC5 so I knew that Zero would follow the same path. I liked the introduction of the "Neutralized" state after "killing" your enemy...you can decide whether to let them flee and live or finish off their damaged plane. The plot and character videos change depending on the "Ace Path" you take: Mercenary, Knight, and Solider. The graphics are top-notch and leave little to the editing mind. The background music heightens the player's sense of duty and envelops their senses while they're flying. The choice of planes is diverse and allows the player to adapt their style of play to each mission.
The only real downside to AC0 is the shortness of the game. I wish the developers would create a storyline broader and richer into the scope of the characters and the timeline in which each of the game in the series is set.

Overall, I was impressed with Ace Combat Zero and would recommend it to any gamer who's looking for a fun and quick shoot-em-up game. Enjoy.

follows in the foosteps of ace combats gone-by, but is thus far the best of the lot - would in fact recommend to do without buying the others, head onto to this.. the challenges set-out by trying to finish the missions in each of the three different ace styles means you have to re-play the game several times over, the missions are not too long or boring for you to have to think 'nah, can't be bothered' - they do subliminally force you to play over and over again, getting all the aircraft, all the colors, etc. I am playing it again for the 6th time now, still have not afforded all the planes, but loving every minute of my mastery of the skies.. and the music and irony of the final mission (18, not 19) is very touching. i wish the soundtrack was bundled free!

A Step Back For Ace Combat
Review created: 05/26/07

I've been playing Namco's Ace Combat series since the original incarnation on the PSone through the subsequent releases on the PS2. Each new Ace Combat game brough better graphics, cooler missions, detailed airplane models, unique weapons - except Ace Combat Zero.

As a whole the game graphics aren't terrible, they're just exactly like Ace Combat 5. The missions don't provide anything new to veterans of the series and the story is almost laughable.

Story has never been a hallmark of Ace Combat. Mostly cut-scenes were added in to give the player some reason, however terribly written, to take to the skies and shoot down the "bad-guys". Ace Combat Zero I'm sad to say is a new low for the series. Not only are the cut-scense poorly written they're also very poorly acted. This game is a throw back to Warhawk for the PSone. Except Warhawk had passable missions for its time.

Another step back is the overall length of the game - featuring just 18 levels. If you're a veteran of the series expect to blow through this game in a few hours. This is a huge step backward when you consider Ace Combat 5 featured 36 levels.

Gone too is the ability to issue orders to three wingmen a la AC5. Now you'll just have one wingman for each mission. Unlike AC5 where you could assign aircraft to your individual wingmen, in AC6 your wingman is stuck with whatever aircraft they start out with.

All in all this game isn't terrible, its just not that good either. Given the alternatives of flight combat action games on consoles though, you could do worse than picking up AC6. But to those who haven't played AC5, pick up a copy of that instead.

This is an excellent game. Ever since Namco released the first Ace Combat title for the original Playstation, I was an instant fan and was hooked. This 5th installment known as Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, is a refreshing comeback of the mercenary mission involvement that the very first Ace Combat had. It feels so cool to be able to add custom paint schemes to aircraft with the improved modeling and graphics engine of the PS2. All in all, a great addition to the Ace Combat series, and one that true fans should not pass on collecting.

  Another Ace Combat Victory

Here is another title for the Ace Combat fan and it does not disappoint...Well not much anyway. I find gameplay to be fast and exciting albeit missions seem very similar to previous Ace Combat releases. The hangar screen allows you to purchase planes of varying capabilities as well as additional ordinance for each aircraft. I like that you can do this. Your wing control is iffy and his abilities seem sub-par. The story is often long winded when all you want to do is get to the game.

I enjoy the feeling of flight and combat. The graphics are very good for the aircraft but extremely lacking as usual for scenery. All in all a good game but by no means a legend.

My son-in-law found this on ebay and asked me to buy it on my account (because he doesn't have one). He was very excited when it arrived because it was in excellent condition. He only paid a portion of what it costs in the stores and it was nicely packaged. It arrived so quickly, we were surprised. He loves playing this game and will probably get an ebay account of his own because he was so pleased.

A good addition to the Project Aces story line
Review created: 07/19/09
by:

Ace Combat Zero is a good addition to the Ace Combat series, with the depth and realism that you would expect from Namco. The game has 18 Levels and dozens of planes. It combines the replay value of AC05 with the fun of AC04. It allows you to select different special weapons for your aircraft, as you could in Ace Combat 4. It also

The story, however, does not stand on it's own very well. This is expected from a game in a series. The game is more of a prologue to Ace Combat 5, explaining the mysterious Belkan War, and giving Ace Combat more background, as well as expanding on the levels in AC05.

The game is not nearly as realistic as Ace Combat 5, because of the "special" planes unlocked at the end of the game, as well as the super weapons that the player must destroy. However, this does not detract from the excitement that playing these levels provides.

The split screen mode is much more engaging than that of Ace Combat 4, and it was nonexistant in AC05. There is even a mode that gives you a realistic amount of ammunition to fight a second player with.

The cut scenes are very engaging, and make the game play even more interesting. There are 6 possible paint schemes for each plane, and you will be hard pressed to obtain every paint scheme for every plane, but it is worth the effort.

All in all, this game is a great addition to the series, and you will likely spend night after night trying to one up your previous achievements and expand your airborne arsenal.

The game is really good. The graphics are awesome. The game did have a scratch on it, but it did not affect the play. I have to say, I knew the game was used, but I was surprised to see that the game originally belonged to Movie Gallery. I mean, the game and book still had movie gallery stickers on them that said if they were torn, games would have to be purchased! You guys can do better than that!!

  Great, as usual.
Review created: 09/04/08

The game play was exactly the same as the previous two, Ace Combat 4 and 5. So far I've only beat this game once but I'll be going through it again. The game was play was no more difficult than the two previous games, but I would say it was easier. I think I only failed 4 times total through out the game. Crashing twice, getting shot down once because I was testing the game "rules" in one of the missions and was shot down once by damage. I love the Ace Combat series but this game was entirely too damn short. I think its only 17 or 18 missions. And they aren't very hard. The story line was typical although 100 times better in the graphics aspect. Enjoy.

Ace combat zero, the belkan war.
Review created: 07/10/08
by:

Ace combat, from the days of the Playstation, has always been the one series I can remember immediately for air to air combat.

there have been others, but Ace Combat still kicks the tar out of them.

Ace Combat Zero is a prequel to the Ace Combat 5 game; detailing the fight between Osea and Belka in a war of atrocity, nationalism, and betrayal.

If you played Ace Combat 5 certain parts will be noticeable, but if you haven't played that then you wont be affected much.

What I found was a nice touch in this game, was the included interviews with pilots that you shot down during the game. The increased difficulty dogfights with rival Belkan air divisons, and the nitty gritty details of the planes itself, including the famed SU-47, along with other special unlockable planes.

What I disliked about this game was the lack of character development, and lack of motivational praise you saw in other Ace combat games. As you progressed in missions your call sign would be related to praise, honor and fear among your enemies. However in this game it is barely recognizable, and you remember your copilots name more so then your own (PIXIE stands out).

This game attempted to do that with "Demonlord" but compared to the "Razgriz" and "Mobius 1" it didnt cut it.

Bottom line, I probably would wait until its 20.00 or less for this game, because I don't believe its worth the brand new price. However, it has solid game play, a good development staff, an easy to use interface, and a simplistic control scheme (you literally will pick it up in seconds)

If I had a game to recommend over this one, it would be ace combat 4, and 5. Simply because they are about the same price, includes a great story, and provides the same, if not more intense action that Zero provides.

but if you like the series, this wont disappoint you.
