Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception (PlayStation Portable, 2006)

I love the Ace Combat series of games. Each one is close to the same as far as game play and the majority of aircraft and weapons.

I love how they setup the controls on the PS2 games so much that I was nervous about what changes they would make for the PSP version.
But I was happily surprised when I started playing with the "B" control schema and found it very similar to the setup I use on the PS2.
Since the PSP doesn't have the dual thumb controls I knew that one of my favorite features would be missing (The ability to look around while flying in another direction). Another feature that I was worried might be missing is the different views - I prefer the gun and cockpit views over the 3rd person view. However all three views are still present.
Buying planes and weapons is still part of it. Replay is still present. Unlocking colors by downing Aces is still present. Also Free flight and mission select of unlocked (played) missions is still present.

Well some things to note about the game that are a little different from the other titles in the series.
1) The replay value I felt was high in this game. I've played through all the missions several times, and even after mastering them - still like to go back and play them with different aircraft.
2) After the 3rd mission you'll be asked to choose the next mission. Your choices will determine what missions and what mission parameters will follow. So there is no way to play through the game once and get all the missions. (You'll have to do it at least 3 times to unlock all the missions)
3) You can save the Replay video of the game to your memory card. When you have a close call or something you can saved it and later show off to your friends.
4) The game has about 8 aircraft that are made up - i.e. not a model of anything real (at least not that I know of). Anyway, on these aircraft you can customize parts (though the shape doesn't change) of the planes to increase certain characteristics. One thing to note here is you usually improve stats in one area and decrease stats in another.
5) If you have a friend that also has the game there is a multi-player mode. (I haven't been able to try this out as I don't know anyone else in my area with the game.) However it looks like it is a PSP to PSP hosted game - one person chooses to host the game and the other joins via PSP to PSP wireless connection.


Overall I ended up paying more for the game by buying on ebay then I was going to, since I haven't been able to find this in stores. But I would do it again now that I've played it. For me it was well worth the price. I'm betting the reason it's not in production anymore has to do with the franchise moving to be exclusive for XBOX360 shortly after the PSP version came out. My guess is they stopped production because of some license agreement with Microsoft. I'm hoping that is only a temporary agreement and that soon, they can start on another game for the PSP and now for the PS3.

(One feature that I hope they do sometime but haven't yet is allow a person to make their own custom paint jobs and their own emblems for the planes.)

I bought the Game three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available in it. The game has a good graphics and its very playable. Must Have Game for PSP!!!!!! budget

This is a game filled with action. For those of you who enjoy a good shootem up military game. This is one one for you.

i like it is the best game of all ace combat I've ever played. when Leasath try to take control of Aurelia in you get to stop them it is very nice game new fighter jets.

I had the opportunity of playing this game big daddy for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, and I was left pretty satisfy with the graphics plus the gameplay for the 2 platforms.

I decided to buy this game for the PSP, just for the reason that I had have a good experience with the previous 2 platforms. However, I failed to anticipate the complexity of 2 things:

•The uncomfortable viewing angles of a really small LCD screen.
•And the even more uncomfortable gameplay controls that the PSP offers for this particular game.

These 2 factors truly diminish the overall performance and enjoyment of the game, but more that a deterrent, this review should be taken as a warning for does players, that as I do, find this 2 obstacles annoying and uncomfortable when playing the PSP, one of my favorite video game platforms.

Item received in brand new condition within original sealed packaging. The game itself is amazing, especially for a mobile platform. I read some game reviews online to find a good game, then ordered it up on ebay for the good price and convenience. This game is almost as good as God Of War.

the game is amusing, I can say that with this game one a good time can pass hit to the console, since it puts you in alert before the enemy.... it is a good game

its just like the ps2 version.

less buttons of course, but the level of fun is the same.

I bought Ace Combat X because is another line of game from the Series Ace Combat. The Graphics, The Planes, The Story Lines. I love these type of games (firefighting aerial combat).

Although you lose a couple features from the full console version, the PSP edition of Ace Combat is still a blast! Great graphics, excellent control and endless fun!

Very good Game , A must for Flight Action Fans ..only bad is that it has a very short story and no online playing .. I hoope they can make online mode in the future

Love it and cannot wait to play multi-player. Graphics and AI are great. This game changes because the enemy planes do not behave the same way every time. Awesome game.

Great flight sim for the PSP, lots of fun to play, seen it once at Best buy went back to buy it it was gone, was unable to find anywhere found on ebay and received it within days. I suggest this game for anyone who likes flying games that are more reality based.

Sony & Namco should REALLY port this game over to other systems for those who do not have a PSP game system. If you are an Ace Combat Fan and you see this game somewhere (new or used), you'd better buy it. Not only just to play or have in your un-opened collection, but you should buy it before it disappears... GOOD LUCK!

The game is very realistic and is fun. But is very challenging and time consuming. There are a lot of missions but I got stuck on mission number 4 where you are in the canyon.

This game does not dissapoint, everything from the storyline to the graphics is top notch. The flight controls are harder than the regular PS2 series, but it make for a much more challenging game play.

For those flight combat simulation junkies out there, it will be an enjoyable experience.

This is one of the best flight simulator games for the PSP. I have only had the game for about a week and I have been playing every free moment I have. This was an excellent purchase which I recommend to anyone who has an interst in a quality flight simulator game.
