  A devastating album

Not the easiest CD to find, I bought the cassette version in 1995 and it is worn to shreds. This album grows on you. Kind of a cult classic, one of the most underrated rock albums of the 1990's.

Excellent musicians provide a nice back drop for Layne Staley whose original artwork adorns the cover. The lyrics on this album are brutal, sad, revealing, forboding, and real. Layne pours out a soul that is dwindling away, realizing that his death is near, which is an idea he seems to be embracing as his only hope for peace. It is sad to hear this talented song writer and singer detail his own demise. He wants no pity and shares his horrors as a warning. It is a haunting album knowing that this was one of his last projects before becoming a complete recluse, dying alone in an apartment, unfound for weeks with a completely broken body and mind.

Like some of the Alice in Chains work, Layne briefly pulls back the curtain to give you a disturbing glimpse of a man travelling further beyond the fringe on a one way road. Beautifully sad. "Wake up young man, it is time to wake up....."

  Mad Season, A must have

This album is unique in that it separates itself from traditional Alice in Chains and was produced well before the mellow (but awesome) Pearl Jam rock era. It has in your face hardcore metal (I Don't Know Anything) as well as slower paced moody rock (Wake Up). It's hard to mistake Layne Staley's powerful voice, but the guitar playing by Mike McCready is what I find most appealing. This is one of the best side projects of all time. You definately need a copy!!!

This is one of the best cd's ever recorded. The vocals by Layne Staley are amazing!!! He is one of the greatest singers of al time!!! The music is awesome as well, this is one of the best cd's you could ever buy!!! It is such a tragedy that Layne Staley passed away so young he is one of the greatest vocalist, singer and frontman we will ever see in mine or your lifetime!!!!!

  Mad Season CD great
Review created: 12/06/09

Got this CD when it first came out & loved it. Bought it this time for a fellow Alice & Chains fan. If you like them, you will like this side project! Melodic, depressing, hauntingly beautiful...it's everything you love about AIC. :)

One of the best bands of this time and a wonderful album. Even if it was too short, Layne has left us too soon.

Layne Staley from Alice in Chains project Mad Season
Review created: 05/01/09

This cd does not get the recognition that it should. It by far is one of the all time great rock cd's. Bluesie and rock influinced. Layne Staley is by far in my opinion the best vocalist ever to hit the rock scene along with Chris Cornell of Sound Garden. If you haven't listened to this cd do yourself a favor and spend the money I promise you will not be disappointed. I have looked everywhere for this cd and decided to check on ebay and low and behold there it was and there were several to chose from. Go figure. Ebay Rules!!!!

  Mad Season- alice & Chains
Review created: 01/30/09

This CD is awesome and it is a shame that not many people know this Cd even exists. Some of the songs hold deep meaning to Lance, every time I listen to it I wounder what had happened. You know he is singing about something personal that he either witnesses or went through. You don't have to be a typical Alice & Chains fan to enjoy this album, it is completely different from the rest of their music. It is a shame that Lance died, he is an awesome artists and had a lt of talent. Just listen to this cd and you will know what I am talking about

Peak of the Seattle Sound - Not to be Forgotten.
Review created: 09/28/08

This disc is simply a must-have for fans of Layne Staley (Alice In Chains) & Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) & the 90's grunge sound in general. The music contained here covers a wide spectrum at the same time including all aspects that made this special genre of music break through to the masses. I recommend this gem as a mind-blowing remnant to a very special time in music & for me personally, it takes me back to a fond period of life. Get it while you still can & spin it as frequently as you can! This disc ROCKS!!!!

  so good, I needed three
Review created: 06/23/08

I purchased this CD as a replacement. The first one that my man bought when it was new was swiped. It is such a great CD that it was stolen from us. We already had two copies, and when one was stolen, that makes this our third purchase of the same recording. I think this is one of the basics of the genre that anyone and everyone should listen to at least once.

Mad Season - Layne Staley - Awesome CD
Review created: 02/13/08

I recently received the Mad Season DVD that I purchased off of E-Bay. I listened to it on the way to work this morning and it is great. I am glad Layne Staley from Alice in Chains did this Mad Season CD as a side project because it lets his fans appreciate him even more. Layne Staley is sadly missed by millions of his fans. His work in Alice in Chains and Mad Season are nothing short of phenominal. This is a CD that any Alice in Chains fan will appreciate and love.

If you are a fan of Layne Staley, the late member of Alice in Chains, this CD is for you ! He lets you know what kind of diverse musician he really was. He puts a nice bluesy spin to the songs, which is ALOT different than the customary Alice in Chains sound. It's a nice CD to chill to & relax !

  Mad Season-Above
Review created: 02/01/08

In my opinion, after listening to music for thirty one years, this album is undeniably in my top five all time greatest albums. Every now and then an extrodinary album comes along, and in the blink of an eye it is forgotten about. Layne Staley's vocals really set the mood for this masterpiece. Every song is complex and yet plays like an easy river gently flowing along. Raw emotion and turbulent times are expressed in this album. In my opinion this album can stand alone against any other album produced before or since. It is an original. This is an album that is very important to the music world. Another gem lost in a cruel world.

The album is long out of print, and my friends said the rare copies out there go for $40 or better. Just to prove them wrong I jumped on eBay and bout a brand new copy for under $13, including shipping. Fantastic.

I thought this would be better, I have to admit I was a bit let down in the beginning , it seemed to get better and even has a bit of an old Rush sound musically. But overall i wished it would've been better, But Layne Staley is the main reason for the purchase... He was one of my favs!!!

  Very unique,style of music.
Review created: 08/05/07

I recieved this cd,in great condition. I am a big fan of alice n chains music, and Layne Staley, their lead singer, now diseased, was the lead singer for Mad Season. This is an awesome cd,lots of Bass, and guitar riff's,very fast paced music, then all of a sudden it slows to a crawl,I had this cd years ago when it came out, got it from a friend that sang in his own band, with simular style. I love this cd,but it is'nt for everyone, I would sample before I buy,but as far as me, I am very pleased with this purchase.

  MadSeason....
Review created: 09/13/06

Although I didn't get this album from Ebay,I'd recommend it to anyone who likes music. A mix of hard rock, blues, jazz and more reflective tracks like 'River of deceit' this CD is indeed hard to find but well worth seeking out.

  A great purchase!!!
Review created: 07/06/06

For fans of Alice in Chains and/or Pearl Jam, this is a must have album. This was a collaborative project including Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) on vocals and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) on guitar.

The album is not overwhelmingly heavy as some might expect, as slower, melodic tunes such as 'River of Deceit' and 'Wake Up' are the highlights. However, it does not disappoint the die-hard rockers with awesome jams like the instrumental 'November Hotel'.

Staley's unique vocal style is solid on this album, but McCready's guitar work here is what does it for me. I think even casual rock fans will find something on this album they can enjoy.
