Like many great films, this one is based on a book, the book: Trail Town. It was written by Ernest Haycox who had quite the writing skill. Anyway, the movie's about a little town known as Abilene. The Kansas town has always been the home to a prided collection of ranchers and now, homesteaders come into unwanted territory. This spot is ideal for ranchers since it's located at the end of a traditional cattle driving route. In the developing town there is quite the variety of characters that make for a routine plot. Theres a rather crazy overpowered sheriff, an attractive, lustrous maid at local bar, the nice little shopkeeper, a hall dancing type of gal, and the ready to fight and ready to punish town marshall. See, the little society featured in the film, meets difficulty since it's completely divided. The ranchers, wanting to keep the place a traditionally fast-paced ranchin' town; and then the newcomers who feel that the community should be a settle down ideal for raising a family. The community-at-large is split in half between those who want this place to stay a rowdy frontier town and those who yearn to change it into a tranquil place where they can raise a family.
Concluding, if you're looking for a fun film you can enjoy with practically anyone, this is the perfect film. If your looking for an intense drama, romance, or horror; you may want to look elsewhere. While this movie differs from traditional John Wayne-type westerns, I enjoyed it greatly and think you will too.
