Best PDA/Phone/Pocket PC - Has everything you need.

The Cingular 8125 is the best PDA/Pocket PC in my opinion. I own a Cingular store and have tried many PDA style phones but found this one to be the best. It is very easy to use and everything you need is at the palm of your hand. It has a Huge screen with very vibrant colors which is also touchscreen. This phone has the best keyboard from all the PDA style phones. It's Keyboard is very large and easy to use. Windows Mobile 5 makes this phone a Pocket PC with many windows programs already loaded in the phone, such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc... With one press of a button you can surf the internet with a true HTML browser just like your computer. With a press of another button you can check your Outlook email instantly.

The Camera on this phone is exceptional. It has a 1.3 MegaPixel camera with Flash and Video recorder. A one-touch button located on the side of the phone starts your camera in a snap. It has 5 Settings which include Auto - Daylight - Incandescent - Florescent - and Night mode. It also has four effects which are Grayscale - Sepia - Cool - and Negative. It has tons of camera settings and with the right settings for each picture you can maximize the use of your camera and get an excellent pictures everytime.

This phone has all the features you need from Bluetooth to WiFi. The WiFi allows you to connect to your home or office wireless network. This phone has Infrared which is great for real estates. It has a memory card slot which you can use to expand your memory for Music, Files, Pictures, and Programs. You can add Music and Videos and play them right on Windows Media Player.

This phone has a nice large slide out keyboard which is very easy to use. The keys are a good size and all the special characters are a button away. The screen is very large and touch sensitive. The phone comes with a stylus(the pen) which makes it very easy to use. The phone has Dual stereo speakers for a great music experience.

A lot of PDA's dont have very good phone call quality but this phone has great phone quality and a loud speaker. You can Sync this phone to use computer with ActiveSync which comes with the phone.

Overall this phone is AMAZING!! It has everything you can think of....Get it!!!

A miniature computer in the palm of your hands!

The size of the screen on this phone is amazing, I love the fact that the pictures taken with the (optional) 1.3mp camera come out so large and clear on the phone. The wifi has helped me out in plenty of situations, news reports, movie times, etc. when it would be handy to have a computer around. Another nifty feature about the phone are the word processing capabilities using Microsoft Word. You can actually send them to your office or home computer and open them in Microsoft Word format. I really do recomment this phone to any business man or woman, or anybody for that matter that could use all of it's features!

HTC 8125....good bang for your buck esp. if buying used
Review created: 01/04/08

Pros: Slide keyboard, WM5, Wifi, Bluetooth, number of buttons, length and height dimensions, available mods and ad-ons for customizing (free and bought), available software (free and bought), affordable mini-sd (vs. micro sd), video capture option, affordable and best "bang for your buck" used PDA/Cell on ebay as of 1-2-08 ; prices sold between 120-190 on average(compared to 8525, Wing, Iphone, Tilt, Blackberries - which were other items I was watching for a month before I bought my 8125), nice camera for a cell, crisp display

Cons: WM5 issues, slower cpu (not a big deal if you stop programs that are running), flash for camera is useless as a flash (good as a flash light), thickness makes it feel bulky in the hand and pocket, keyboard slider feels flimsy (mine is a used unit), after owning the item it started to lose its visual appeal (looked out of date), cracking when at high volume for ringer.

Comment: After some careful watching of different phones as mentioned above this phone was the best choice base on cost and my needs. I mainly use it as a PDA to help me and it serves its purpose here well (love Windows Mobile). The price was fair as compared to the others listed above. I have used OS with Palm and Blackberry and would have to say that Windows Mobile is most suited for me. This would be a good buy for you as a used PDA/Cell from eBay if you want a fully functional PDA but at a more bearable price. You'll sacrafice fanci-ness and attention but gain a fully functional pda that didn't break the bank.

  Cingular 8125

I KNEW THIS PHONE WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.
When I received this phone I LOVED it. I went from having a big, bulky & no camara Siemens SX66 pocket pc to having this great cute, small, compact with a great appearance Cingular 8125. When I talk on the phone my face doesn't hit a whole bunch of buttons on the touch screen. The screen automatically turns sideways when you slide the keyboard out. The camara takes great pictures. I set it up where my phone checks every 15 minutes to my email & if I have one it alerts me. I can search the web no problem, it is pretty fast.
**This is where I come to my problem......I basically have this phone so when someone emails me about something I am selling in my ebay store I can answer them back & when I am away on vacation, I can still manage my ebay store. Well, I can't sign into "MY EBAY". I can go to the ebay web site & look at stuff but when I want to "Sign In" to my account I can't. I called Cingular & they told me that this phone is on the list of phones that can't sign into accounts. It isn't Cingular, it is the way the phone is set up by the manufacturer. I spoke to few other people, one said they can (???) but a few other said they can't sing into ebay, buy movie tix or log in their bank account. They have to sign in using wap.ebay.com. If you plan to get this phone FIND OUT with your carrier FIRST & tell them what I am telling you. If this isn't important to you & you need it for emails, save files and anything other then signing into an account then this is the phone for you. Unfortunately it isn't for me :( I am getting the 8525, which Cingular said it will work (I have my fingers crossed) Hope I helped.
UPDATE: The 8525 works perfect. I can sign in ebay with no problem.

  Two words: N1C3 PD4!

Probably the most robust PDA known to date. And if you're a techie, you'll like it even more.

First I'll run down the PRO's and CON's:
PRO's
Built-in WiFi
MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Direct-Push E-mail
Mini SD slot
Keyboard
Bluetooth
Improved phone signal strength (I get signal in places where my previous Motorola did not... and yes, on the same exact network)
Windows Mobile (very close to a full-on PC)

CON's
Size (a little bulky, but that's the trade-off for the feature set)
Windows Mobile (very close to a full-on PC)
Need to buy quite a few accessories/plan upgrade to get the most from this device.

The web browsing capability is nice and you are able to do this over the WiFi without extra charge, but you will quickly grow accustomed to having this feature and will find yourself using Cingular's EDGE to reference the WWW... and that will cost you. I now have the unlimited data plan and reach for my 8125 without a second thought.

I listed Windows Mobile as a PRO because it has lots of cool PC features; the addition of Resco's utilities includes a registry editor!!! Powerful stuff. I also listed this in CON's because like a Windows PC, you will need to reboot once in while.

Bluetooth stereo head phones are wicked-dool with this, but in order to hear stereo sound over the bluetooth, you will need a small patch applied.

Also, using a bluetooth headset (I use Plantronics Voyager), you will want Microsoft's Voice Command software, the built-in "Voice Speed Dial" is a joke. Conversely the Voice Command is kick-a$$ and worth every penny.

Even without a techie's touch to enhance this device, it's still a sweet PDA; biggest drawback for me is the size... I wish it were sized like my wife's KRZR... but I realize the trade-off and will take the features of this PDA over the mini-flip phone everyday.

Best Pocket PC Phone for the money
Review created: 02/02/07
6 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Before buying the Cingular 8125, I owned an Audiovox SMT 5600. I've also use the 3125 flip phone, which worked much like the SMT 5600. I loved my smartphone and I was able to do so much on it. It was limited, but it was a GREAT transition into the "upgrade" of a pocket PC phone. The 8125 is amazing and does everything it needs to, with VERY few drawbacks. To talk about the specs. would be useless, because you can see those anywhere. Here's how it really works. The slider is great, and the keyboard is responsive with a click on each key. The camera is the best I've ever used on a phone. The shutter button is intuitive, with the orientation changing to landscape, to make it feel like a real camera. The quality is beyond good, especially for a phone. I've printed 5x7 photos, and I've never had anyone question the quality. The voice dial is very accurate, will call contacts or open programs, but requires training, which seems to be standard anymore. Windows media player works great, just like you would expect. My only complaint here is that playlists cannot be made from the phone without downloading an additional program/plug-in. But, syncing from a PC works well, and playlists will come over when they are synced. Videos play in full screen, and are extremely clear. I've downloaded a few full movies onto my phone, and they are phenomenal. It's so awesome to watch a full movie, or catch up on some TiVo while I have lunch at work. Speaking of work, I teach high school, and we communicate primarily through e-mail. Outlook and this phone were made for each other. All of my e-mail (up to a max KB number for each that I can set) is downloaded, along with all calendar appointments, contacts, notes and tasks without any effort. I keep all of my appointments, with reminders no matter where I go. I can sync e-mail before I leave, and then follow up on anything that I need from home, and then send out replys the minute it syncs again. Notes and tasks are a nice feature if you start using them, but most don't. Also, I have my personal hotmail account that downloads automatically whenever there is internet access. Speaking of internet, WiFi is amazing!! First off, I shoudl say that I do not have the unlimited data plan, because most of the places I go have WiFi, so I decided to stay with my current plan (another benifit of buying from eBay!) The communication manager has a button on the side, or from the today screen. From there WiFi, Bluetooth, and others are available. On my phone, I have basically disabled the EDGE and other data transfer services because I do not want to be charged ever. Hotmail automatically updates whenever I'm connected, and MSN Messenger works great. Text messaging is a breeze, and is bundled with the e-mail program to keep all messaging together. Pocket word, excel, and powerpoint are all great. I personally use them more for viewing, but I will ocasionally use word for something I know I'll have to type out, or I will use files as templates for future files (i.e. daily lesson plans, etc). Internet explorer is great. Also, get magic button(Trust me YOU NEED IT!) Basically, this phone does everything you need. However, if you don't want to deal with another computer just to use your phone, this is not for you. My brother-in-law bought one around the same time I did, and took it back a week later. It was too much for him. If you won't use most of the features, then skip it a get a RAZR. If you get it & try it, You'll love it.

  Best PDA/PPC/Phone Ever? Oh Ya.....
Review created: 09/08/06
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I have had a few months use of this Pocket PC, and I must say..... I have used Blackberry's and Treo's as well, and this one blows them all away.

I myself am a big guy, and PDAs like the Treo and BlackBerry have buttons that are WAY to small. But the 8125 has a BEAUTIFUL slide out QWERTY keyboard, with nice big buttons.

My other favorite feature of this phone, compared to the Treo and BlackBerry, is that it uses Microsoft Windows Mobile. It is GREAT! Mix that with Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office Mobile Edition (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook), a 1.3MP Camera/Camcorder, WiFi, Bluetooth........ AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall, the greatest PDA Phone ever. Oh, and for those that dont know, Audiovox is the maker of the phone. High Quality, Durable, and awesome software! If you dont like this PDA, then PDAs arent for you! :D

Great All-in-one device and a Good Phone too

6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I got this device because I really wanted to get out of carrying two different devices with two different sets of contact information, two different chargers, ect. The Cingular 8125 is all that and more. If you are looking for information on this device on the internet it is the same as the HTC Wizard and the T-Mobile MDA. I have replaced my previous HTC made phone (and Audiovox SMT5600 also called the HTC Typhoon) with my Cingular 8125. HTC makes a lot of different Windows Mobile Phone devices for just about every major cell phone carrier in the world and re-brands them for each.
If you are like me good RF performance is essential. I live in a rural area and this device has the BEST service of any phone that I have ever had (this includes many Nokias, a Motorola and my old Audiovox SMT5600). I'm also picky about bluetooth performance (I went through 9 different bluetooth headsets before I got one I liked) and this phone is very good in this area as well. Windows Mobile 5 is a nice improvement over older windows mobile versions and the device even makes a nice MP3 Player. Some have complained that this device is a little bulky but it really is quite manageable size (almost identical to a Palm Treo 600/650). Overall I am totally pleased with this device and would recommend it to anyone.

The Good:
-All in one device
-Good Phone (good RF)
-Slide out QWERTY keyboard
-Great Battery performance
-Great Bluetooth performance
-Great Handset Volume (some phones I just can't hear)

The Bad:
-Speaker-phone is a little weak
-Not the best one-handed phone (no pocket PC really is)

  Cingular 8125

I needed an all in one device, that if I found myself stuck at an airport I wouldn't need to break out a laptop, mp3 player, cellphone, planner, notebook, journal, and so on. With a popout keyboard writting on the Cingular 8125 is a whole lot easier than using a stylus with on-screen writting. Entering numbers is sometimes frustrating, especially when it comes to getting somebody else's phone number with out breaking out the keyboard or stylus. It's a well built phone and I'm pleased with it. I've dropped it three times on cement, unintentionally of course, once when it was outside of it's case and it only has a few minor scratches as a result. One disadvantage which I really can't complain about, because of the all inclusive functionality of the device, when it's in it's leather case it won't fit into all of my pant's pockets. One tip if you're going to buy more memory: make sure you buy miniSD memory because regular SD memory just won't fit. Happy PDAing!

  Me and the Cingular 8125

Overall, I liked the number of features this phone offered. I state that past-tense because I no longer have it. I purchased my 8125 from a seller on eBay years ago, but long after the item had been replaced by Cingular. It had features such as WiFi, calendar, keyboard, bluetooth, games, Microsoft document creation, Windows Mobile 5, and last but not least, a phone. Here is the problem I had with the device. When I was in a hurry to make phone call, Windows Mobile 5 was so slow, that I missed a rather big opportunity. I went back to a simple phone; one of the free phones cell carriers give away to get you to sign up for their service. It may not have all of the fancy features, but I can dial a phone number when I need to.

  Great convergence device

There are many detailed reviews of this product, and I will defer reiterating the positives and negatives of every feature.
I am a physician in training with a fair amount of recently acquired administrative responsibilities. My old system of organization involved scratching notes on paper and filling my pockets. I hated PDA's because I simply didn't have room in my pants pockets for a phone and pager. I also hate belt clips.
This device is awesome, functioning primarily as an organizer and also as my phone. I can turn off the phone function in the hospital and still use it as only a PDA. I can check all emails on the go and send replies as well. You can carry and edit microsoft word and excel files, and view powerpoint presentations easily synchronized with your PC. Slide out keyboard is great. If you hate talking into a box, bluetooth works flawlessly. As a phone, it's great in terms of volume and sound quality. I even remember people's birthdays, and use the task list function extensively to remember all the things I used to scratch on paper.
Key accessories: Boxwave screen cover, 2GB mini-SD card, SBP Pocket Plus and Diary software, TCPMP movie player (store converted movies on the phone to watch on the go!). You can use it for MP3s, but I already have a smaller, better quality audio player.
Great battery life for my needs with limited internet usage, although this is due to a slower 200MHz processor that can bog down with multiple programs running. The 8525 runs much more smoothly with usage of the faster Cingular 3G networks, but costs a couple hundred bucks more, too much for me.

This phone was pretty good. It was a bit bulky and did get a bit annoying some of the time. It had a lot of features, that weren't used, but I suppose that it was nice having them. Often, it was slow, and took forever to do something because the touchscreen can often be a hastle. The keyboard was really nice, and had very big buttons, so I rarely ever hit the wrong key. It has O.K. calling quality. The media player was pretty good, listen to music and watch videos. The SD slot was a great help. The wi-fi really helped me out when I needed to get on the internet. The phone is pretty easy to use. I recommend it for a business type person, not really for a regular Joe.

  Good HTC 8125 Review
Review created: 04/10/08
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A reliable if unexciting business companion, the Cingular 8125 will let you take your corporate e-mail with you and surf the Web wherever you go, thanks to its built-in EDGE and Wi-Fi networking. But we wish it were better at making calls where Cingular signals are weak.

The 8125 is built from the same reference design as the T-Mobile MDA, with a few changes. Most notably, the case is blocky where the MDA's is more rounded. The keys on the 8125's slide-out keyboard are larger and tiled together; the MDA's keys are smaller and separate. And if the MDA looked serious, the steel-gray 8125 has an even more serious look.

Like the MDA, the 8125 is a quad-band world phone with EDGE for cellular data transfer and Wi-Fi for faster connections in hot spots. It packs a 195-MHz TI processor that's fast enough for most applications, though not for Skype or for full-screen TV-quality video. (I got very similar SPB Benchmark test results from the two devices.) And it runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, with a free upgrade coming up later this year for Microsoft 's new push e-mail solution.

The 8125 we tested has a bit more free memory than the MDA—it started with 42MB of free storage memory, compared with the MDA's 34MB. That's enough for several programs, though you'll probably also want to get a miniSD card for additional storage. E-mail is a particular strength of the 8125.

I got better phone performance from the 8125 than from the MDA. Cingular seems to have tweaked the gain table, which controls volume, to make it louder. Unlike the MDA, the 8125's earpiece was loud enough in all situations, though I heard some annoying distortion at top volume. The speakerphone was fine too. I hooked the 8125 up to Jabra and Plantronics Bluetooth headsets without a problem, but I was disappointed that, as with the MDA, voice dialing is the primitive recorded-tag type. At least the voice dialing works over Bluetooth.

Like the MDA's, the 8125's reception fails in weak-signal areas. The 8125 failed to make calls in places where the Cingular 2125 and Sony Ericsson Z520a could both connect. When reception was decent, the 8125 seemed to keep pace with other phones, whereas the MDA fell behind T-Mobile's leading phones in all of our test scenarios.

PDA battery life is average, hovering around five hours depending on whether you're using Wi-Fi. Phone battery life, on the other hand, is excellent, with more than 15 hours of talk time.

I had some trouble getting online with the 8125's Wi-Fi; I had to disable a nonobvious proxy setting created by Cingular. With that option turned off, I connected to unprotected and WEP-enabled networks. The device also supports WPA security, and yes, you can surf with Wi-Fi and talk on the phone at the same time. EDGE performance was excellent on Cingular's network. I got download speeds ranging from 117 to 182 Kbps using Pocket Internet Explorer and using the 8125 as a USB modem for a Dell laptop. The 8125's megapixel camera, like the MDA's, isn't great. Photos are bright, but blurry at the edges, and low-light shots are especially blurry. Videos are the usual postage-stamp-sized, 176-by-144 MPEG-4 deals you ssee on most camera phones.

In Cingular's lineup, the 8125's nearest competitor is the HP iPAQ hw6515. With its 312-MHz processor and older Windows Mobile 2003 SE OS, the hw6515 feels considerably faster, and it's slimmer than the boxy 8125. The hw6515 also has integrated GPS, an unusual feature.

Blackberry meets Sidekick, this phone does it all
Review created: 10/03/06
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This phone is definitely the best PDA phone out on the market right now. Most people who see this phone mistake it for a sidekick or a blackberry (showing they don't know what their talking about) but it's understandable since this phone has (until recently) had a very low profile. The 8125 is a windows pocket PC meaning you can run all your favorite windows programs on it (provided they've been optimized on Windows CE).

You can opt for push e-mail if you have a outlook server you want to ping regularly, but it drains the battery.

That's actually this phone's only draw back, battery life, but if you are tied to an office for part of the day you can always recharge with a USB cord. This definitely is a buy for any business person who seeks to minimize what he has to carry around with out sacrificing utility.

Currently the BEST pda / phone you can buy
Review created: 07/18/06

I have owned this phone for around 3 months and it is truly the nicest piece of equipment I have owned. Not only is it a very nice phone, with a very powerful radio, it is also packed with all of the other features you could ever ask for.

Let me start by talking about the screen. It is very bright, I actually only have it turned half way up and it is plenty bright for me. The picture quality is amazing to view pictures or even full movies!

You can download practically any piece of software you can imagine for this phone. It sports a dual core OMAP850 TI processor so don't let the 195mhz scare you.

The camera quality is the nicest I have seen on a camera phone. It is a 1.3mp with built in flash and many options to get the most out of it. Daytime pictures are beautiful, and nightime pictures are good.

It also includes a headset / headphones to talk or listen to music on. They are faily good quality and contain a little volume control on the cord.

I would highly reccommend this phone to anyone. It is very pricey however at $549.99 without a contract, or with a 2 year contract you can bring it down to $199.99.

little on the old side.
I bought the AT&T 8125 five weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 1.3M-pixel camera,mp3 player ,word, ppt, xls, outlook, calender, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for my kid. carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 3 hours. My only complaint is that the wifi system on the phone makes you go thru a lot of setup I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.or just cheap!!

Just plain Awesome! Did not know what to expect since it was a replacement for my Daughter who had one but it was stolen. She is now in the 7th heaven. I really like all the features on it.

There's nothing to dislike about this device. I've only had it for a month, but I'm still learning about it's functions. Plan on spending some time learning what it can do for you. Besides being a great phone, the ability to sync with Outlook on the computer keeps the Contacts and Calendar up-to-date on both devices. I like the ability to associate voice-dialing and picture-IDs with the Address Book. Transferring data via Bluetooth is handy; connecting to the 'Net via WIFI saves time/money. I haven't used the camera that much, but I use the Media Player often. I've downloaded music and pictures to the SD card using USB and Bluetooth. I also downloaded a Bible - hope I remember to turn off the phone in church. There are so many programs available for this platform - both free and for sale. I thought I would use the slide-out keypad more often, but there are so many ways to enter data on the screen I haven't needed to use the keyboard. I don't use Word and Excel that much (I'm retired), but they both work well. The 192-page User Manual is quite detailed; the ActiveSync program installed and operates flawlessly. The battery life is good - it hasn't run down on me yet. The 8125 IS a bit larger/heavier than a cell phone, but it does so much more. After all, it is a computer in your pocket. Try it - you'll probably like it.

This thing is great. I enjoy having it to type messages back and forth. My gf says my messages are more understandable now that i type them out. Very fast going through the screens and starting up programs on it. The touch screen is amazing but i would for sure buy a screen savor before using this. The battery last forver even while using the phone all day. The only thing I would of done different is changed where the buttons are on the outside of the phone. When i first got the phone i hung up on a few people but now its good to go. The update version of this phone has the buttons in a different spot. Great phone great deal.

Unit does everything I want. Unlocked it and installed a custom rom that I downloaded. It works like a dream on the Rogers network and even get a strong signal in elevators. PDA functions are great, and for a timekiller on long trips on the train, can't beat windows media player and some great games that I have on it. Synching is easy and the wow factor is great too. A great purchase, and for the price, unbeatable.
