Description: AMD Opteron processor gives companies a whole new way of doing business. The processor is based on AMD64 technology - an innovative technology that allows IT professionals to run 32- and 64-bit applications simultaneously. This means tha...
This was a set of chips used in a VMWare ESXi 4.0 server. It was a completely compatible upgrade from a set of Opteron 265's. The speed is noticeably faster. Chips tend to run hot but is acceptable with a decent CPU fan and case fans. I'm very pleased with the performance of the CPUs and it was cheaper to upgrade to these procs versus building a completely new system to use newer procs. I would recommend these processors to anyone over a dual-core prcoessor any day due tot the extra memory bus lines that are added for each AMD Opteron processor that is added. This is better than adding another Intel processor and sharing the memory controller lines that are already there, reducing throughput by adding wait states to access the memory.
