I bought this as a replacement for my 2.2 GHz Athlon 64 3500+. I also bought a used AMD copper heatpipe heatsink fan which I believe ships with these processors from the factory. At factory speed of 2.6 GHz, the Opteron 185 is idling just under 50C and under load reached over 60C before I stopped pushing it. That being unacceptable, I UNDER-clocked to 2.2 GHz and under-volted from 1.35 to 1.175, and now its running at a cool 35/47. I need to do more research on my cooling setup because I didn't expect it to run so hot, but I am optimistic that I will be able to run it at factory specs soon, and never plan to OVER-clock it. Other than that issue, it's wonderful to have a dual core, and that is the main thing that inspired me to upgrade to the top CPU for this motherboard. Of course, most things I run aren't optimized for multiple CPU's (including the Windows XP GUI apparently) but some heavy processing applications are no longer taking my computer hostage.
So If you're looking to max out your socket 939, you probably already know what you are looking for. This is probably not worth it if you have a x2 4800+ already, but maybe if you are running slower and with less cores. Also, I can't compare to the FX-60 personally, but I have read that it is pretty identical to the Opteron 185, so I couldn't suggest one over the other. For the same specs, used Opteron 185's seem to sell cheaper than used FX-60's though, so that's how I made my choice.
