Good Information on reloading for beginners

I had watched people reload rifle bullets and shotgun shells, but I had never done it before. I really wanted to learn how to do it so I decided the ABC's of Reloading book would be a good starting point. The book helped me learn the basic steps of the reloading process. Also, there is a ton of more information that comes in handy throughout the whole reloading process, from what type of powders are used for certain types of applications to the specs on different types and brands of bullets and shot. Almost all the information you'll need to get started reloading at home, and other information that might interest you.

The ABC's of Reloading by Bill Chevalier (2008)

This publication lists itself as a definitive guide for novice to expert. It is exactly that. The book covers enough basics to be very helpful for the beginner, while containing enough advanced and new technology topics to make it interesting for those that have been reloading for years and to continue to educate the beginner as they become familiar reloading.

The book is written for those with a high school reading level and contains a great deal of information without being dry or boring.

While the book does not include actual reloading guides, it contains a great deal of information dealing with safe and effective methods of reloading. There is also a great deal of interesting reloading history.

I am a total beginner at reloading and this book has already given me a much greater knowledge of what the reloading process entails and clear discriptions of all the technical terms and why each step is important. Great clear pictures of how to identify shells unsuitable for reloading and quite a bit of history on reloading and ammunition in general. I would recommend this book to beginners and advanced reloaders alike!

A little misleading when it come to shotgun reloading
Review created: 12/02/09(updated 12/02/09)

My interest lies in shotgun shell reloading. The information on this subject in the book while accurate is somewhat general in nature. For example it gives very little information on the construction of the Shotgun Shell, which is one of the most important considerations when deciding what shell you should use when reloading. Most of the really technical and in depth information in this manual is for the brass shell casing reloader. I find Lyman's 5th edition, Shotshell Reloading Handbook to be far superior on the subject of shotgun shell reloading.

I just finished reading this book and I really enjoyed it, even though I have not gotten into reloading yet. I am trying to read a lot of information before I get into it, so that I will know more about what I am doing. This book serves that purpose, covers everything about the different kinds of reloading and then gets into the actual hands on type information that I will need once I start reloading. Would recommend to all those new to relaoding because it explains many details of reloading that you need to understand before hand.

This is a great guide for those just starting out or experienced handloaders alike. Clear instructions with great pictures make every step of reloading safe and most effective. Bill Chevalier has many years of top notch knowledge under his belt and we are lucky that he has taken the time to record and instruct us again in the updated 2008 edition.

This book is simply one of the must own items for every reloaders reference section.
