Synopsis
Eckhart Tolle is a gentle guide for change, first in ourselves and then in the world. Addressing the dysfunction all around us, he encourages us to see the source--our egos, which he explains in some depth but also puts simply as "the voices in our head." Letting go of our egos, we will let go of much of our pain, and will be able to embark on a journey of discovery and "re-creation." There is much of the natural world in his argument, as he encourages us to connect to the things in the earth and sky that can bring enlightenment. Tolle reflects that we are microcosms of the larger universe, and that human consciousness and the physical world are connected. If we break free from old ways of thinking and seeing, we can change ourselves, individually and collectively. We can, in his view, create a "new species," one more fully awakened, that can then "re-create" Earth. A 2008 Oprah's Book Club selection.

I bought this book because Eckhart Tolle has proven to be a compelling teacher and author. I have heard from other people that his first book "Power of Now" was hard for them, but that "A New Earth" had really drawn them in and was a great read. I did not find "Power of Now" difficult, but it is true that "A New Earth" is a different format than Tolle's first book (which is in question and answer format), and therefore is an enjoyable read.

I highly recommend both of his amazing books. What he talks about could change your life. It is hard for the mind to be told about itself, and so I think this is what makes the concepts hard for some people. The mind knows that Tolle is on to it, and so has trouble letting in the information! Try it on yours and see what happens. If it really sinks in, maybe peace could become a reality....

I have not read this book as of yet, but I have read some of your reviews in how you say it is life changing. I know another book that does the same thing if only we would take time to read it. It talks about changing our attitudes, seeing things differently and being connected to the Creator. So many times we are searching for things in areas when they are right in front of us. Try reading the Bible...it will give you the same feeling. It has been around forever & still has the same results.
