This show was on the Documentary Channel and I enjoyed it when I saw it and was so happy that it came to eBay on DVD.

It is about a family who lives in New York and the mom has to travel every day to Connecticut for treatments for her son who has cancer. The travel is too long for such a sick child so the mom starts looking for a new home in Connecticut for the family to move into. It didn't take long for the parents to figure out the reason the price of the home was because it was a refurb funeral home and included was all the equipment.

Due to the oldest son in his vunerable state he knew right away this was a "bad" home and not a good idea. He slept down stairs in the basement with his brother and the room was closed in half by two doors with windows. That room was the first to be really haunted and the ghosts would bother the boys every night. Things around the house would disappear, one of the main things to go missing where the crosses.

The home was baptized and the son was treated my different men in the religious field.

I am going to leave the end for you to figure out by watching the movie. I thought it was pretty good.

A Haunting In Connecticut on DVD
Review created: 04/08/09

Since the movie "A Haunting in Connecticut" has just been released on March 27 in theaters they claim that the movie is taken from the true events. A family moves to Connecticut from New York and discovers that the house was once a Funeral Home. The problems start when the family moves in and the past residences haven't left. This DVD was featured on the Discovery Chanel and Unsolved Mysteries. You will be very intrigued, but you will have to decide about the truth. What you may also want to know is, what really happened in Amityville Long Island. If your into ghost movies, this DVD is a must see that should be added to your collection.

Very well done documentary and recreation of story.
Review created: 10/10/09

I hope that you see this documentary first before you see the film. It tells of a haunting witnessed by the Snedeker family. I haven't seen the film "The Haunting in Connecticut" yet, but I did see this film and it was very well made a presented.

Little does the family that moves into this rent house know it's history. Once the mother discovers the truth that the house was once a funeral home, she feels embarrassed and ashamed although there were no outward signs that this house would somehow wind up causing her family much heartache.

Although the story about the oldest son, who was undergoing cancer treatment at the time, became possessed by some kind of demonic force, the son named Paul never actually spoke about his possession. The mother and the younger brother were actually interviewed yet never revealed their identities.

The re-creation of events by actors and special effects helped to make this documentary more realistic with a narrator helping tell the story.

If real life, Carmen Snedeker got the heebie-jeebies when she discovered the house had been used as a mortuary. Even though the story points to some kind of evil demonic possession living in the home and haunting its occupants. Other people in the neighborhood could not verify or refute the reports.

The common assumption was the son age 15, became obsessed with his own death, wrote his own morbid poetry, became full of rage, and developed a violent temper. His mother jumped to the wrong conclusions and decided he was possessed. You can wrap it all up to puberty, a concerned mother, and facing your mortality at an early age.

The author of the book IN A DARK PLACE had said the family members couldn't get their stories straight so he just wrote in a bunch of scary stuff, and whala, a hit book and movie to boot. Yahoo......

I'll give this documentary film a 4/5 for its creepiness. Is it fact or fiction. We'll let you be the judge.

IF YOU LIKE MY REVIEWS, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO LET ME KNOW BY VOTING. THANKS!

I thought it was the movie, not the documentary, but that is bad research from my side. Although it didn't say anywhere that it was a documentary. Oh well.

My 12 year old daughter had seen the previews to this on TV and really wanted it! I am a chicken and could really live without it, but bought it for her anyway. I really loved the movie and would recommend it for everyone (as long as you watch it with someone else!).

How much of this is true?
Review created: 08/04/09

This is a documentary about a supposedly haunted house that was once a funeral home. It makes very interesting viewing, but as to its reality, I was less than convinced. Two of the actual family members are interviewed onscreen, but their faces are in darkness. The oldest son, who was supposedly possessed, is not interviewed. Most of the story is re-created by actors. When researching the backstory on the internet, I learned that the family's last name was really Snedeker, and none of the neighbors confirmed their story. If you look at the FACTS (not what the family SAID), the case for a haunting becomes flimsy. Basically, Mom Carmen Snedeker freaked out when she found some mortuary equipment in her rented house; the house used to be a funeral home but there is no evidence the owners performed Satanic rites. The oldest Snedeker son, age 15, had just gone into remission from cancer and became obsessed with morbid poetry and developed a violent temper. His mother concluded he was possessed, but my theories are: 1. Natural reaction to a stressful brush with death; 2. Emotional problems due to said brush with death and a mother who thinks he's possessed; 3. Puberty. I became even more skeptical after reading an interview with the author of a book about the case, IN A DARK PLACE. He said the family members couldn't get their stories straight, and his editor finally told him to just write something scary. So...this is scary. But how much is true?

Not just another Hollywood ghost story
Review created: 06/20/09

I have seen this on the Discovery channel before and it is such a good story that I decided to buy it since it is something I would watch again. It is a very good dramatization of actual true events combined with actual family members who lived through the haunting talking about what they went through. I love it because it is based on the actual events, not just a cooked up or overly embellished Hollywood movie. If you have seen or want to see the movie A Haunting in Connecticut, I would definately recommend this for viewing in comparison.

Haunting in Connecticut-fun scare for a Friday night
Review created: 05/03/09

This was a captivating re-enactment of the now famous true story about the Parker family's haunting while living in the Connecticut suburb. The motion picture did not do the original story justice. The actors are great in this Discovery Channel special which most know are always exceptionally well-done. The filming was great and it gives you a good chill each time you watch it. Whether you believe in inhuman hauntings and the supernatural is up to you, but the thought of a home housing an evil entity bent on destroying the family is quite compelling. Actual family members tell the story, however, I question why Paul did not speak as well as the father in the story. Some of the rationale in the re-enactment left you wondering why they didn't believe evil was happening when the parents themselves saw it from day one but ignored the signs.
