Very well done documentary and recreation of story.

I hope that you see this documentary first before you see the film. It tells of a haunting witnessed by the Snedeker family. I haven't seen the film "The Haunting in Connecticut" yet, but I did see this film and it was very well made a presented.
Little does the family that moves into this rent house know it's history. Once the mother discovers the truth that the house was once a funeral home, she feels embarrassed and ashamed although there were no outward signs that this house would somehow wind up causing her family much heartache.
Although the story about the oldest son, who was undergoing cancer treatment at the time, became possessed by some kind of demonic force, the son named Paul never actually spoke about his possession. The mother and the younger brother were actually interviewed yet never revealed their identities.
The re-creation of events by actors and special effects helped to make this documentary more realistic with a narrator helping tell the story.
If real life, Carmen Snedeker got the heebie-jeebies when she discovered the house had been used as a mortuary. Even though the story points to some kind of evil demonic possession living in the home and haunting its occupants. Other people in the neighborhood could not verify or refute the reports.
The common assumption was the son age 15, became obsessed with his own death, wrote his own morbid poetry, became full of rage, and developed a violent temper. His mother jumped to the wrong conclusions and decided he was possessed. You can wrap it all up to puberty, a concerned mother, and facing your mortality at an early age.
The author of the book IN A DARK PLACE had said the family members couldn't get their stories straight so he just wrote in a bunch of scary stuff, and whala, a hit book and movie to boot. Yahoo......
I'll give this documentary film a 4/5 for its creepiness. Is it fact or fiction. We'll let you be the judge.
