  Surreal Beauty!

This film is not for everyone. If you like Independent/Foreign/Art House films - why have you not seen this yet?! Looks like a dark Chagall painting with dialogue by a French Kurt Vonnegut - so surreal but strangely beautiful and believable. Ron Perlman is amazing as always and the music by Angelo Badalamenti is haunting.

Do not miss this story of what happens when a mad scientist steals children's dreams so he can live forever!

This movie is a visual feast! The set design, visual effects and art direction are astounding! However, the version I purchased was in French with subtitles so if you do watch this you need to really give it your full attention. Still, it is a very imaginative and entertaining watch!

  Definitely worth the "read"...

Weird weird weird. A good weird though. Super original and creative. There's nothing better than watching a fantastic foreign fantasy flick (or "Quadruple F", as I like to call it) at 1 in the morning. If you can handle subtitles give this film a watch.

  A charmingly unguided tale.
Review created: 04/21/09

In the "City of Lost Children," a cantankerous fairy tale full of cunning villains, unspoken heroes, tragic plots, crooked teeth and hungry babies. Not only was this movie considered bizarre, but it provided a method of understanding of an entirely different culture. Though it is dubbed over, it still is worth the watch. Who could have known Ron Perlman could pull off a french accent? This movie was definitely worth the money spent, and was definitely one of the most creative movies I have seen all year. Since I had difficulty finding a copy in the stores, the internet seemed like the best alternative to me. Now, if you are not the kind who likes to ponder about a movie, cannot take weak chemistry between characters and despise any sense of fantastic reality, than this movie is not on your radar. If you seek to know more, watch this movie. I give it a solid 87 out of 100 and four out of five stars. Bon appetit!

  Great movie

This is a very creative and unordinary movie. If you like movies such as Pan's Labyrinth then you might enjoy this movie. I haven't watched City of Lost Children in years, but when I was reminded of it I knew it was a movie I had to have in my collection.

Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet team up again to create an incredibly imaginative and entertaining feast for the eyes. The film also features a fantastic score by Angelo Badalamenti, the frequent collaborator with David Lynch.

  A VERY SHORT REVIEW
Review created: 11/29/05

OK, people, it's in French with sub-titles and that's all you need to know. Why is this review short? Because this movie is so incredibly original and complex that it really has to be seen to be appreciated. Even if you HATE subtitles, grab this movie. If you like imagination/sci-fi/fantasy AND humor, this is one you will like. Why it did not win the best foreign film Oscar the year it came out is a mystery to me.
