  Short Game but Good Game

Well I bought this game on a Friday and decided that was going to be my game for the weekend. Unfortunatly I beat it by Sun afternoon. The length the game is the main problem with this game. Some of better points being the great story and the pretty good fighting system. While the fighting system may seem overly simplistic to some people it does its job very well which is to get the player from point A to point B in the story. Make no mistake this game is all about the story. Finding items and upgrading equipment is really not neccesary. Some of you may wonder why I am giving this game such a high score. Mainly for the price of around $20-$30 or the whole series auction here on ebay for around $80-$90 you are getting way more than you paid for. For about a great 20 hours of gameplay and a fantastic story this is definatly worth picking up.

Item came as described and very fast! Would definitely buy from this person again. Item came so quickly in the mail I was shocked. I wasn't expecting it for another couple of days. Couldn't have been happier.

  Good story, medicore game

The reason I bought this game is because i really enjoyed the .hack//sign Anime Series, and I wanted to know what happened next. Well I found out that what happened next takes place over a series of four games. Sounds epic? Not really.

The first thing you will notice about this game is that you will probably beat it the first day you bought it. there is probably a max of 10-15 hours playtime, and thats even if you do all the sidequests. I beat the game in about 8. All four games in the series are like this. That wouldn't be so bad if each game was less than 10 bucks, but unless you search the globe for the cheapest prices, be prepared to pay between 17 to 30 for each game. Another real kick in the pants is that each of the four games contains nearly all the data for each of the games. All movies, and everything.

As far as gameplay goes, its very basic. Run in, hit the enemies, get hit, heal, repeat. You are constantly running through randomly generated dungeons with set room shapes. Each room is usually a run in, kill the monsters, continue kind of thing. After the dungeon, there is usually a talking scene on where to go next, or a cutscene on where to go next. Unless you are VERY into the story (like i kind of was)this system will probably bore you to death. It only gets worse throughout time as the dungeons get longer (longest one in final game is 15 floors).

The story of this game is very confusing. Chances are after you finish it you wont have a clue what is going on unless you saw the series or read the book. If you think you will understand it after you beat the games, you are wrong. You will understand more than when you started, but there are far too many questions left unanswered, as well as plotholes galore.

To buy, or not to buy? If you are already into the story, go ahead and try it. you might like it. Otherwise, you may want to try renting it first.

  Fun game!

Good game but can get very repetitive. Going to the different areas can be a bit boring since a majority is about the same but it's a nice game and a good idea behind the game.

Looking for an engaging 4-part RPG? You found it.
Review created: 01/02/09

.hack//Infection (Part 1), as the name suggests, is part of a four part game series about a guy who starts playing a popular online game with his friend only to be attacked and have that same friend end up in a coma. He then begins his journey searching for answers and a way to help is comatose friend.

Essentially you're playing a game about someone playing a game. The story is quite interesting, especially if sci-fi/cyberpunk is your thing, although the only downside is that you'll be getting only the first quarter of the story here. Want the rest? Time to buy Parts 2, 3, and 4.

The gameplay comes down to dungeon crawling with actionRPG style combat, going into town, buying items, then heading back to the dungeons. Every now and then you're forced to log out of the game and go to your deskop (remember, this is a game inside a game) to check the message boards for tips and new locations or check your email. This might seem annoying at first but interacting with your party members through email was actually quite enjoyable and fleshed them out, while the message board was very useful in that it provided essential information.

Overall, I loved this game as well as the subsequent .hack games, and is a must buy for RPG fans who can get over the older looking graphics and want a great story and fun gameplay.

Highly Addictive!!! Has a Dark Cloud feel to it after a while, dungeons/fields are all the same just rooms are different, but the storyline is good and the game play is okay.

  An amazing simulated experiance.
Review created: 10/23/08

.hack//Infection is one of those games that just pulls you into it almost directly from start to finish. Even though Infection is only the first part of a 4 game series, it is a great way to start it off. The team-play, simulated online gaming, and interesting characters and back story make it a worthy addition to any PS2 owners library.

I love this game because it feels like a real MMORPG without the long load times. I love how I can trade with random people and such. The only thing I have to complain about is the crazy amount of menus. But you get to know those things after time.

.Hack//Infection one of many great RPGs
Review created: 01/02/08

This game is the 1st of 7 games in a great set. This RPG is unique in that it's an RPG within an RPG. The storeline is easy to follow fun to play. The thing I like most about this game is being able to convert your data from the 1st game to the 2nd, 2nd to the 3rd and so on. I purchased this game to complete my set of games. I played this game for the 1st time 3 years ago and it's fun to be able to sit down and play again still remembering every secret of the game. I'd reccomend this series of games to any RPG fans out there.

  Surprised!! Good Game

I went to bestbuy with 50 dollars in hand about 5 years ago.

I wanted to buy a game, I wasn't sure what game, and I stared at them all for a moment or so.

I finally came across this game. ".hack//INFECTION" the part that swayed me into buying it wasn't the gameplay or the lame cover art, it was the additional DVD anime disk that was included.

Anyways, this game ceased to amaze me, it came up with an amazing idea, and turned that into a reality. It made it seem like the player was online while they really weren't and this was amazing. I had never played an online game although I knew what they were like and this is what this game really does well.

The sounds and the acting and the graphics are of course all top notch, and the best part is even after you beat the game you can continue playing to get special weapons etc. in order to import them into the next game.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone and everyone!

  dot hack
Review created: 05/02/07

I first saw this game way back when i was a sophomore or junior in highschool. My friend had it and well, i wanted to play it. So just recently, i got a PS2 for my bros to play since they were cheap, and i thought "oh dot hack, that looked really fun" so i had to go find one on ebay because of course it's no longer in stores. Well long story short, i thought it was a good game, i brought it on ebay, now i love it, especially when the voiceovers are in japanese! ~^_^~

  .hack part 1
Review created: 01/04/07

the reason that i finally decided to buy this game was because i really like RPG games, and ive been seeing this game and its sequels in mags for a couple years now. I can only give this game an average score because it gets very repetetive. the other thing about it is that the whole mmorpg isnt done very well, yes its nice to have it without having to log on, but its still no the same. the battle system is pretty well done though, and the story line is somewhat interesting, but like i said the dungeons are all the same and become very very repetetive. its a good game none the less and well worth the 20-25$ that you can find it for now.

It feels similar to playing an online game except not. I found this one pretty fun and a good introduction to the other 3 games making you want to keep playing them to get the story. You might also feel compelled to finish every little special feature. The dungeons can become a bit repetitive but I think that's pretty similar to an online game anyway. The animation is pretty good too considering this is a fairly old game now. Definitely give this game a try if you like convoluted plots, some repetition, and getting game goodies. ;D It's also got the great feature of being in either English or Japanese.
