I HAVE BEEN A YES FAN SINCE THE LATE 70,S. WHILE SOME OF THERE LATER STUFF INCORPORATED TO MUCH SYNTHESIZER & ELECTRONIC GADGETRY THERE EARLIER STUFF DEFINITLY ROCKS!! THIS WAS ABOUT THE LAST REALLY GOOD STUFF THEY CAME OUT WITH, THEN MODERN TECHNOLOGY BROUGHT THE WHOLE ERA SPINNING DOWN HILL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYTHING THEY MADE THROUGHOUT THE 70,S. NEVERMIND IF YOU HAVENT HEARD SOME OF THE TITLES,YOU,LL UNDOUBTEDLY RECOGNIZE THE SONGS ONCE YOU HERE THEM.
The recording of this album is terrible, the mix level is way down and not pleasant to listen to. Not sure if it that way on all of them, or just this CD, since it was a BMG copy....
For many hardcore Yes fans this album might rank a little lower on the scale than most. It didn't contain the sometimes too long works of earlier albums and was by far less art-rock like. There was not as much of the mixture of jazz, classical and rock music mixed all together. There is also none of Steve Howe's guitar mastery there. On the other hand, it allowed Yes to turn in a different direction, and made their music more assessable to persons who would not have listened to Yes previously. They had no other choice really, for by this time "progressive" or "art" rock was very quickly dying, indeed, if it weren't already dead.
Is this album like old Yes? Not at all! This album is what I consider a "gateway album" into a new form and style. The Yes of the 70's is gone in this album. But the "new Yes" of the 80's is very well appreciated. This album offers a diffent twist than the prior albums. There is UNBELEIVABLE harmonies in this album. Several really great songs. I personally have grown to like about 14 out of 15 songs on the album and am pleased to say that I own it. Yes is still a VERY TALENTED band. This is one of those albums that you let IT take YOU away. And it will too with it's great variety of instrumentation. Owner Of A Lonely Heart, It Can Happen, Leave It and Hold On are amongst my personal recommendations to hear. Enjoy!
THIS IS A GREAT CD!! THE SONGS ARE AWESOME AND A REAL REMINDER OF THE CLASSICS 80'S PERIOD. THEY WERE A GREAT TIME AND THIS MUSIC REPRESENTS IT WELL. I BOUGHT IT AND VERY QUICKLY. IT IS AI HARD ALBUM TO FIND AND I GOT IT AT A GREAT DEAL.
I understand that this is not like the previous version of the band. However, this incarnation of Yes represents the sound of the eighties and still sounds great in 2007. This band probably could have been named something other than Yes, but the music still stands on its own. Although the record has a pop flare it still shows more musicianship than most pop/rock bands. In 2007, when much rock music all sounds the same, revisting older music of the 70's and 80's is well beyond welcome.
I would pay top dollar for this YES CD! I think this is their best sound ever. I never liked their earlier tunes and was glad when they got a better sound with this CD. Songs like "It Can Happen" and "Changes" are really good!!
I really dislike this album. I do not consider this a Yes album at all. The sound of the music is NOT what Yes is about. Alot of fans didn't like this album because of the sound. I think this album can be compared to the sound and music of a group like Foreigner. This cd is not for the typical Yes fan.
