8MM (DVD, 1999, Closed Captioned)

Nicolas Cage was born and raised to play this character! He is absolutely fascinating as a professional investigator who is willing to do what it takes. He is very believable and really draws you into his world of undercover work. And when it gets too wild for words, he shows a revulsion and a hesitation in dealing with the subject matter (multiple sexual perversions), but always gets right back on track til he reaches the point he's seeking. At the end, he discovers James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano) playing a murderous pornographer in league with another one, played by Peter Stormare (the blonde killer from 'Fargo') and Cage takes them both on, to avenge the death of a young girl. Cage always gets his man, and 8MM is no exception. He's definitely not playing around like he was in 'Raising Arizona', he is 100% business. And this film almost certainly was the springboard that put Gandolfini into his role of Tony Soprano; he is absolutely superb! This flick has enough twists and turns that it deserves a place in the collection of every action/suspense fan on the planet!!! And all the players in the film do their parts with style and professionalism; a definite must-buy!!!

Not Nicolas Cage's best performance but entertaining and worth a watch. I'd rate it a 6.5 out of 10.

I seen this movie around 10 years ago, and then was thinking of it the other day, so I logged into Ebay, found it in excellent condition for a Grand total with shipping of 4 bucks. Money well spent! Great movie, just not for kids under 18.

"8mm" is typical of Nicholas Cage's work,a star performance.Joaquin Phoenix gives an excellent performance as co star.The story line moves fast with lots of action.Never a dull moment as they move through the underground porn industry.Nicks character,a private investigator,idenifies from a film a young woman who was murdered in the filming to satisfy a wealthy clients bloodlust.He then seeks out vengence on the film maker, and murdering actor.

another good nick cage movie, he gets the good roles and fills them well. but all gets built around him well too. good acting by all. opens questions on societys attitudes towards morals and standards to live by.

I love Joaquin Phoenix and Nicolas Cage, this dvd was a must for my collection. The movie is good, I like it.

Excellent! Suspenseful!!! Unbelievable!!! Must see!!!!! Incredible acting,a very different subject to have a movie on. I love every second of this movie, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It's definently a good movie to own as you'll watch it over and over again.

I have a fiew of Nicholas Cage movies and I've seen some at the movie theater and his performance is excellent. I have never seen this one but it interested me, so I purchaded it. This will probably have a lot of action and this interests me. I know I won't be bored.

This was so horrible I wanted to cry. Why, Nicolas Cage? WHY?? Joaquin Phoenix has a lame role as a porno shop cashier. Bad acting, bad dialogue, just terrible all around. A shame, because I was really looking forward to seeing this. What a disappointment. If you like Nicolas Cage, but despise 90% of action movies, check out Bringing Out the Dead, Adaptation, or The Weather Man. If you like Catherine Keener, check out Being John Malkovich or Death to Smoochy. If you like Joaquin Phoenix, see Walk the Line or U-Turn.

A perfect Nicolas Cage part - a hard-boiled private investigator - carries the thin plotline for most of the movie. The problem is that the plot is simply not strong or complex enough to maintain drama until the end.

The content reeks of perversion designed for the box office. It is slow-moving and moralistic as a counterpoint to that content. It runs out of action and purpose about an hour from the end and the viewer is left to move at the film's pace to a fairly predictable conclusion.

But for Nicolas Cage's performance the viewer would not bother.

I bougth this DVD because Ilove to watch movies.
I like the actors in this movie- Cage.
Recieved undamaged and in record time.
