This movie clearly is one of the best vampire movies made. I say so because of it's unique storyline and how different it seems to the cliche vampire movies. This one seems has a realness or truthfulness that others do not offer. It seems to give you just enough information and leaves the rest to your imagination. As you progress through the story you'll find yourself wrapped up in the subtleties the film offers hoping to get a glimpse of more... then the climatic scene happens and it was perfect. No need for a huge budget to sell off any effect. I highly recommend this title to anyone who enjoys foreign films and can stand to read subtitles.

The Best Vampire Movie I've Ever Seen
Review created: 03/29/09
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Solid performances from the actors, most of which are children. This is an original love story where one of the main characters happens to be a Vampire. This movie contains an "R" rating due to some graphic violence, and disturbing images. The story takes place in Sweden during the 1980's, and is dubbed in English, but also includes English subtitles.

If you enjoy the Horror, Drama, and Romance genres all rolled into one movie - this one's for you!

Features Actors:Lina Leandersson, KÃ¥re Hedebrant,Per Ragnar
Running Time:114 Min.
Rating:R

In Let the Right One In, 12-year-old Oskar (future heartbreaker Kåre Hedebrant) and Eli (Lina Leandersson) enter into a deadly form of puppy love. The product of divorce, Oskar lives with his harried mother, while his new neighbor resides with a mystery man named Håkan (Per Ragnar), who takes care of her unique dietary needs. From the wintery moment in 1982 that the lonely, towheaded boy spots the strange, dark-haired girl skulking around their outer-Stockholm tenement, he senses a kindred spirit. They bond, innocently enough, over a Rubik's Cube, but little does Oskar realize that Eli has been 12 for a very long time. Meanwhile, at school, bullies torment the pale and morbid student mercilessly. Through his friendship with Eli, Oskar doesn't just learn how to defend himself, but to become a sort of predator himself, begging the question as to whether Eli really exists or whether she represents a manifestation of his pent-up anger and resentment.

Must for any vampire fan!Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)

This movie is unlike any of the vampire movies I have seen in my time and believe me Iv'e seen enough to last many life times. Everything about this movie is amazing, I was really wrapped up in this vamp flick from begining to end. I don't want to give anything away so I would just say it is worth every penny to own and you may end up watching it more then once. Rumor has it that Holywood may do a remake on this film, I HOPE NOT!! this is a movie that needs no remake it should be watched in it's original format.

Bela Lugosi brought theater; Christopher Lee brought blood, teeth, & hiss; and, Anne Rice brought good story telling. Each of these films had some aspect of it copied over and over again. Let the Right One In will be one of those films whose originality and risk-taking will be copied in years to come. It's already set for a Hollywood remake and it's barely two years old! You've read much about the story line, this is to encourage you to see the film. I have not seen it dubbed in English, but it was great in the original language and the subtitles are easy to follow. Watch it without the ENglish dubbing first for to hear the actors voices. The second time in English probably will help you absorb some of the non-verbals you didn't get the first time. I promise you'll want to see it more than once. Though I've seen the film three times on Netflix, I will still buy the DVD, and I HAVE to buy the novel. There are so many questions, and I'm hoping the novel will give me more information to absorb. Great film.

I had to watch this movie a second time to fully understand what was going on, but I recommend watching it with the Swedish audio and English subs. Watching it in English dubbed is really cheesy. You don't fully see the true character personalities unless watching it in its native language. I decided to buy it because as an avid vampire movie and story lover, I thoroughly enjoyed the story's capacity in allowing the viewer to think past the end of the movie and realize that the story continues and is actually a partial story of the cycle of a vampire in need of a human's affection, which is her mode of survival. My favorite part was when the vampire helped her human friend in HIS time of need. A true vampire indeed, she was swift and gruesome in her attack against their opponents. Overall, this movie is not to be missed. It is truly in a class of its own.

I love this movie, the way this story is told is beautiful, I dont want to say its a love story, but its a story about falling in love and loving someone for who they are and doing anything for them. And not tolerating anyone to hurt the one you care about so much. Knowing the burden and deciding to let go or to take that burden and honor it. This is a must own. I hear that Hollywood is going to remake this, I hope that is not true, there is no way they will ever find a way to tell the story the way these actors have.

I loved Let the Right One In, and I do not like horror films or violent films. What a movie! Totally spellbinding. Beautifully filmed and beautifully directed and acted. Yeah there's a little violence but it's sparse and quick and there's so much beauty and quiet stillness that the violence happens in such a way that you're surprised and not quite sure what you've seen, even though you're sure you've just seen a little girl tear a guy's head off! Compared to the obscenely violent crud you see in most movies the violence in this one is artistic. This is a deep, thought provoking flick that'll leave you thinking about it for days.
Highly recommended.

This movie blows away the chessy Twilight. Its too bad that it was a limited release film here in the US because its a "foreign" film. The story is wonderfully told, you feel for the charactors, and Eli steals the movie with just her very believable expressions. Its a lot of movies in one, a love story, a coming of age story, a vampire story, a thriller with scares that are earned not forced like a cat jumping out at you like u see in every single horror film today, theres even a Hero moment. This is one of those movies that sticks with you for days after you watch it.

This movie puts to rest the notion that Vampires are handsome and charming as in Twilight. I described it to a friend as a Bridge to Tarbithia but with evil vampires.
Be sure to watch it with subtitles instead of dubbed english.
Great movie

Best Vampire movie of 2008. One of 5 best all-time
Review created: 03/25/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I first heard about this film by reading an article talking about how it was winning awards rapidly(has won 42 awards to date) and was considered one of the films you must see if you're a film enthusiast. It finally gained enough momentum to start showing up in movie theaters in the US, but with all the buzz surrounding Twilight(another vampire flick that came out at the same time in theaters and was backed by big studio spending) Let The Right One In became lost in the shuffle, losing theater counts because they instead wanted to show Twilight in yet another theater at every venue. Unfortunately, I didnt get the chance to see it for that reason. I remembered it though and when it came out on Dvd I didnt hessitate to buy it even without seeing it(from what I read I knew I would like it). Unlike Twilight, I was not dissapointed!

This film is truly a masterpiece. Even if you don't normally like horror films, or vampire movies, dont let that prevent you from seeing this! Sure there are some gruesome parts, but if I had to categorize this movie I wouldnt call it a horror film. I would call it a art/time piece with a twist of horror. The Direction was outstanding. Tomas Alfredson, with this film became in my mind one of the top 5 directors currently working in the industry! The art direction was flawless. The cinematography was masterful. There were shots in this film that have never been done before in cinematic history! Even the acting by the two young leads was often brilliant, emoting perfectly, far surpassing the two lead actors in Twilight.

Perfectly paced and an intelligent storyline. This film is mesmerizing, human, and yet sticks true to the vampire mythology. Let The Right One In is easily the best Vampire film of 2008, and in my opinion is now one of the 200 best films of all-time!

This Swedish import is way overrated!
Review created: 01/02/10

I bought this movie thinking it would be the best vampire movie since Interview with the Vampire. It wasn't! It was a very average movie. Lina Leanderson is a very average actress. She wouldn't hold a candle to Abigail Breslin or Dakota Fanning. The actor that plays Oskar is convincing enough as a bullied but gifted kid. But his performance is not enough to save this movie. Maybe I would feel differently had I seen English subtitles rather than hearing English dubbing. At any rate, I sold this dvd for a decent price so I was able to get most of what I paid for it.

One of the best Vampire movies ever filmed!
Review created: 12/17/09

Without wishing to exaggerate, this Swedish film is one of the best vampires films ever filmed. Excellent performances, excellent photography, excellent work by director, excellent screenplay from John Ajvide Lindqvist who also wrote the novel on which the screenplay was based...controversial, romantic, bloody, dangerously adorable at the same time.. Both dark and lovely, a production worthy of being considered a future classic ... forever.

Not the "best" vampire movie I've seen. . .
Review created: 12/06/09

This is a good movie, not excellent. I like vampire flicks - I've seen 95% of "fang" movies that claim to be the "best vampire movie ever made." This one is a juvenile friendship; the vampire is a young girl trusting her neighbor Oskar (trust is an apparent issue for the girl and this is a big deal for her to open her door to a mortal for the first time in decades); Oskar is about her "age" living in an apartment complex in a small community in Sweden. The english dubbing is very good if you don't want to read subtitles. The young actors are convincing in their individual plights. The weakness I saw was of Oskar and his role of being the victim of school bullying. He kept it to himself. The adults are totally oblivious to Oskar's victimization and turn their heads. You must see the extra cuts on the DVD; the director's "behind the scenes" after you've viewed the movie. A better explanation is offered and a better understanding of how and why Oskar's bullies got away with so much. The ending can be either happy or sad, depending on your views or feelings of the characters.

  Adult Twilight
Review created: 12/05/09
by:

If you were disappointed with the simplistic plot of the first Twilight movie, maybe this is your version. It's a coming of age story, but what if your girlfriend is more capable? How do you deal with her experience and knowledge? The boy is obviously struggling with the bullies, his family, and ... himself. There are some deep questions about what is right and wrong. The dialog is spars, giving space for complex emotions to be felt. It's a foreign film that might be best watched twice: once with acceptable dubbed English, and then with the voices of the characters and sub-titles. So, enjoy the adult version of Twilight.

  Let the Right One In
Review created: 10/04/09

I rented this movie from Netflix, and after viewing it, I knew it needed to be a part of my DVD collection. I love to have lesser know films that I can tell others about or loan them, and this movie does fit that category. It has some very unique features that sets it apart from your typical "vampire" movie. Those tend to get boring a predictable. This one, was anything but. I would, and have, told others that this one is a must see.

A fascinating surprise of a movie. Skip the harshly done english overdubbed voices and go for the subtitled original audio. The story is well told and well edited. The protagonists are complex yet acccessable.
