  TWILIGHT OF A CLASSIC SHOW
Review created: 09/19/08

First, I bought this to complete the entire set of "That 70's Show." This is a wonderful TV sitcom that has given me many hours of laughs, and I consider it to be another FOX classic series. As with all good things, they come to an end. Several of the principal stars had already left by this season: Topher Grace as Eric, and Ashton Kutcher who appears in the first few season openers. But, the new character of Randy, played by Josh Meyers, is a pleasant surprise as he really adds to the existing cast. Guest stars abound in the last few episodes. Tommy Chong is also back and is a hoot as always. But, and I can't explain why TV comedies do this, they tend to get a bit serious. Do the writers run out of funny things to say, or are they trying to make a statement about growing up? I don't know, but the last season is still fun and well done. Worth the money!

  That 70's Show Season 8
Review created: 02/06/10

That 70's Show is my number one favorite sitcom ever. I already had seasons 1-7 way before I bought this. I was hesitant of getting this season because I wasn't really on board when they brought in the Randy character replacing Eric and Kelso. As a die-hard fan of the show, I made up my mind to buy the final season of the show. At least I know that the final episode of the show was a really good one.

Not quite the same without Eric and Kelso
Review created: 06/11/09

Season 8 is pretty good but it was obvious that That 70's Show was at the end of the road without Eric and Kelso for nearly the entire season. It had some good storylines with Jackie realizing that she is in love with Fez after all of those years of talking smack about him, the fact that Bob finally stood up to Red, and even that Hyde temporarily quit the circle were all good storylines but let's face it, it just wasn't quite the same without Eric and Kelso! And frankly, Randy could've stayed on Mad Tv because he really wasn't that funny. Overall funny stuff but if I were looking to buy any of the seasons of That 70's Show, do yourself a favor and buy seasons 1-7 first and then if you still want season 8 go for it. Keep in mind too, this show still comes on like three different tv stations too so there's no need to buy the series unless you're a hardcore fan like me.

An admirable end to an exceptional series
Review created: 03/05/09

***SPOILERS INCLUDED -- DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS***

I've read a lot of negative reviews of the 8th and final season of That 70s Show, and for good reason. Arguably the two best characters in the series leave (Eric and Kelso) and the replacement (Randy) is inconsistent at best. Some of the final plot twists have been widely criticized, especially Fez ending up with Jackie and Hyde marrying a stripper. All of these criticisms have some validity.

Certainly the final season was a difficult prospect for the writers and producers of this show. How do you keep a series fresh when you lose the two bastions of the cast? They definitely took some risks regarding plot development, perhaps in an attempt to offset the weakened cast. Some of the risks were questionable, but some of them provided a fresh twist to keep the series intriguing until the very end.

I give this season 4 out of 5 stars because for the most part, season 8 works. I still laughed all the way through and there were even some episodes that go on my all-time favorites list (such as the one when Donna loses the "photos" she was sending Eric). I think it's a credit to both the writers of the show and the overall development of the series that even without the two main characters, this season succeeds. How many other series would have stayed this good despite missing the two most popular members of the cast? This is a credit to the overall quality of the show. It was so good that even the second tier of characters became classics, funny and interesting enough to carry the series on their own.

On the other hand, some of the new developments in this season were flops, and that is why I can only give it 4 out of 5 stars. The acting by Josh Myers (Randy) was mediocre and sometimes even painfully unfunny. The writers seemed to force him into the circle of friends, so that he suddenly starts talking and acting like he's been there all along. This comes across as arrogant and borderline insulting to those who came before him. His character was too generic during the first half of the season to elicit the expected laughs on inside jokes in the group, yet the writers kept forcing him to spout off awkward one-liners. When he finally developed some personality towards the end of the season, he became more likable and more funny, but even then he never quite meshed the way the other characters did.

Some of the final developments in the series seemed forced -- convenient means to a tidy end -- but then, what series doesn't feel that way to some extent as it nears its conclusion? Besides the Randy character, the other big flop was Eric dumping Donna out of nowhere. There was no foundation for this laid whatsoever, and the event seemed completely contrived to allow Donna to start dating Randy. It was a disgraceful way to end the series' most established romance (regardless of what happens in the final episode).

The other plot twists for the most part worked for me. Jackie was always fickle. I can see her deciding to date Fez. Hyde marrying a stripper is completely in line with his irresponsible nature, and staying with her matches his lazy nature. Unlike many fans of the series, I applaud these plot twists as refreshing and even endearing. Because despite all its irreverence, even this show wants an ending where its characters are happy and set for the future.

Despite some hiccups, season 9 is an admirable end to what will be a classic comedy series for many years.

This is the last season for That Seventies Show which is why its not in my opinion as good as the others (due to cast members leaving). However I decided to purchase it anyway because I have all of the others and wanted a complete collection. Also it is worth watching and does have some very memorable episodes!!!

  Nice series
Review created: 01/08/09

I really enjoy all of "That 70's Show" it is a funny reminder of more youthfull days. It is easy to relate to the charachters. The 8th season is not as outstanding as the others simply because some of the main charachters have been removed or replaced and the writting does not seam as solid to me, but it is still very good and necessary for anyone who wants to stick with the story line.

The only thing I did not like was that the series ended for good, forever. We had all 7 seasons and finally got the Season 8 to complete our Series Boxed DVD Set. It's a fantastic series with some hysterical pee in your pants laughs as well.

  70s show last season
Review created: 09/03/08

Growing up in the late 60s and early 70s, I can relate to the characters in this series. Language is a little rough and social segments are unappropriate for younger teens. Very funny and keeps you wanting for more. Wish the series could have continued. Had to have this to complete my series. When I can't sleep at night, I just pop one in and watch. I enjoy the shows so much it doesn't matter that I can't sleep. Would recommend buying this series for anyone over 16 who enjoys comedy.

Well I have been a fan of That 70's Show since the beginning and wish that it was still going on but I could not watch it when Eric and Kelso left the show it wasn't the same and I knew that the show was going to end quick fast and in a hurry and the new guy Randy on the last season I didn't like it was not a good season the only reason that I bought it so I would have all the seasons it was sad to see it end but I would have rather it ended at Season 7 than to put everybody though a crappy season 8 oh well

  that 70's show season 8
Review created: 08/01/08
by:

I absolutely love thats 70's show. I now own all 8 seasons. For about the first 6 seasons it's all laughs, and then season 7 is a big transition from all the laughs to it being sad as eric and michael (Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher) leave the show. If you have not seen at least a couple seasons before season 8 you will not enjoy the show or understand it. If you have seen a couple seasons this will make you sad but you will still enjoy it.
