This book is hands down the best footprint book for generalized central america. It has tons of information and current prices for a wide variety of boat and train tickets.
It also has great information on which roads to hike and safety spots, along with awesome little side notes like:
how to pack for the country
a recommended itinerary for each country
towns that are off the beaten path
just tons of useful stuff. and its small enough to fit in any pack!
