Once Upon a Time in Mexico (DVD, 2004)

This is the final chapter of director Robert Rodriquezs trilogy that
started with El Mariachi and continued in the second movie Desperado, an
it brings back together Antonio Banderas as El Mariachi and his sidekick
Salma Hayek. The plot finds Banderas as a traveling vigilante and being
recruited by a CIA agent (Johnny Depp) to take down a corrupt general who
is allied with a powerful drug lord (William Defoe) who are planning to
overthrow the President of Mexico-and install a government friendlier to
the drug producers. As in the first two movies, El Mariachi carries his
guitar case full of guns-and shoots and wipes out hundreds of drug cartel
warriors until he meets with the Main Bad Guys-in a final scene(s) shootout.
A bit more suspense in this movie than the first two-but some comical points
also although the main points here will be that Action and Adventure lovers
will enjoy this movie and find a nights entertainment with this movie. If
you liked either of the first two episodes of this trilogy-this one will not
disappoint either.

Writer-director Robert Rodriguez is listed in the credits as having “chopped, shot and scored” the nonstop action here. This nearly one-man movie machine continues to bend and stretch his cinematic ingenuity with a third visit to the spring of heroism and anguish that flows from the exploits and legend of guitar-playing gunfighter El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas). The plot is no great shakes. El Mariachi is in exile in a rural Mexican village after the death of his wife and child. An amoral CIA operative (Johnny Depp with deadpan cheekiness) brings him out of retirement to keep a drug-cartel boss (Willem Dafoe) from killing the president of Mexico. Revenge and double-crosses play a key role, but it’s Rodriguez’s sensational, highly amped camera work and love of overblown theatrics that make the chaos so fresh, outrageous, seductive and alive.

Ok-WHO could NOT LOVE a movie that stars both Antonio Banderas and Johnny Depp??? The reason I bought this movie to begin with is because it has 2 of the HOTTEST actors together on one screen. I had seen other reviews and thought that it wasn't going to be any good. I was WRONG! IT WAS GREAT! The special features (which I usually NEVER watch) is also worth watching. I give this movie a two-thumbs up and would recommend it to anyone!

So now johnny depp joins the cast and helps keep life in this trilogy. The plot might have some holes, butt there is a strong supporting cast & again the story & action keep this movie going. For those who have seen the first 2 movies, you will not be disappointed. For newcomers you will be in for a treat & will be rewarded when you go back & see the first 2 movies. Overall this is an excellent movie by itself & rewards the fans of the first 2 movies with another gem.

Overall, the movie is decent. The reasons I bought it are I love Robert Rodriguez and Johnny Depp is phenomenal in this movie. Everything else about it is pretty average

loved this movie filled with clever twists and johnny depp. explosive finish with a fantastic soundtrack. "siente mi amor" by salma hayek is mesmerizing.

I love this movie for many reasons. The action, the cast, and the director.

I'm a huge Robert Rodriguez fan and also a fan of Antonio Banderas & Johnny Depp.

I also like the supporting cast which includes: Salma Hayek, Willem Dafoe, Mickey Rourke, Eva Mendes, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Ruben Blades and Enrique Iglesias.

I would love to see another Desperado film made sometime. The two films Robert Rodriquez made as a sequel & trilogy for his original El Mariachi film are excellent. Perhaps, he might make an American film remake of El Mariachi. Maybe an earlier story of the character with Antonio Banderas playing the lead, which isn't the case with the El Mariachi film from 1992.

Antonio Banderas is great in these roles, such as El Mariachi and Zorro.
So, it would be a treat to see one more movie added to the trilogy, either El Mariachi remade or a brand new adventure.

There's plenty of action, role changes, twists, treachery, and surprises. Plus, awesome weapons and stand-offs.

I highly recommend this movie to everyone.

No story line, just a jump around, guns going off, dirty room, dusty roads, hot weather, bad guy movie. They didn't even show off the good looking actors in it very well, the plot was poor and the movie was lame.

There is one main thing to like about this movie and her name is Salma Hayek. She is so amazing. The movies not half bad either.

This is an excellent movie in its own right, but the fact that much of the movie is in Spanish can be somewhat annoying (the subtitles, not the spanish). In addition, I believe this movie is part of a series of movies, and there does seem to be some plot gaps due to this episodic nature. Still, it is a very good action movie, and is packed with notables.

I decided to purchase this dvd because I wanted to upgrade my video collection to dvd. I am also a Johnny Depp fan. With that said, this purchase was merely to get rid of the old media and bring in the new.

Following where Desperado left off. Once Apon a Time in Mexico doesnt fail when it comes to action and creativity, even if it is done by a different director. Johnny Depp even offers a bit of sick humor as a creepy and naive CIA operative.

This movie was a xmas present so i have not watched it but the case is in great shape and the shipping was so fast. Gotta love sellers like this!!!

I love this movie it is one of the coolest movies I have ever seen in my life. I met the director this summer at the comic convention in san diego, robert rodriguez and he is so amazingly talented. I also love the soundtrack for this film he uses songs from Los Lobos and they made some songs for the movie themselfs. It is so good and Im glad I found it on half.com for a low price and I recieved the movie really fast so I was happy.

story is like a fast made movie without much script. not worth the price of the cd. low budget movie.

Perhaps we were handicapped by not having seen parts 1 and 2 of this trilogy, but it was hard to follow this movie. I liked it more than my husband did. Johnny Depp's role was very amusing. We watched the interview with the director and found it quite intriguing. There is a lot of fantasy type action, i.e. unrealistic fighting and shooting. I thought it was worth the money, though I don't expect to watch it again.

had the puerco pibil recipe that is talked about... great........anyway so got the dvd on ebay to have a few friends over and make the dish... and who doesnt want to watch Johnny Depp? so that is why I ordered it and am happy with transaction.

I collect all Johnny Depp movies. Ebay is a great place to find what your missing. I don't own them all yet but I will !!!
