iPhone: Better than the hype/best cell phone ever 16GB
Review created: 03/03/08(updated 06/23/09)

The iPhone 16GB has enough capacity for movies & music

I've owned a cellphone since 1992. I've always had a "top of the line phone" (I've always had AT&T GSM as well = formerly Cingular = formerly BellSouth Mobility). I've had some good phones: Motorola v60 "Vader", Nokia 6102i

GSM is the international standard & the technology the iPhone uses

The 2.2.1 firmware is very stable. 2.0 brought the app store. 3.0 brought copy & paste

I've had some REALLY bad phones: Motorola SLVR, Sony Ericsson s710a, & an HP iPaq 6515. In 16 years having cellphones, I've had over 100 (yes 100+) different models & makes

I haven't had signal issues w/ many phones, it's always been asthetics that bothered me or a clumsy interfaces

Every phone I've ever had, no matter how long I've had it - I always had a problem placing a call on hold & answering another call or joining a call into a 3-way call. With the iPhone interface being so well designed & the features so clearly labeled. I don't have that problem any more

As for the design - the Sony Ericsson s710a was a beautiful phone, but the way it flipped open was awkward. When you opened it - it flipped upside down. You had to open it, then rotate the phone to use it

With the HP iPaq 6515 - I hated the keyboard. It was hard to see, crowded w/ characters & difficult to use w/ my large fingers. This is a problem I face w/ almost all phones w/ physical keyboards except the HTC 8525 - which has the best phone keyboard of any phone. iPhone users should try the pogo stylus

The camera on my Nokia 6201i was great, but it was difficult to use & to get pictures off of

The iPhone keyboard is clear, easy to use, & once you get use to it - allows for very fast typing. I used it more in the first 10 days of owning my iPhone than I ever used ANY keyboard on ALL phones I've ever owned

The camera on the iPhone is terriffic - the viewfinder & capture buttons are crystal clear. It's easy to get the photos from iPhone to computer for editing

Unlike most smartphones - that have Windows Mobile, the iPhone has an intuitive interface that's easy to understand & navigate. There's no need to read a manual; it's just simple to understand.

Before the iPhone, I hated text messaging. I texted more in the 1st 10 days than I have in the last 10 years!

Because an iPhone uses standard iPod sync & charge cables, accessories are easy to find.

Battery life is very good; even when utilizing power draining features like Wifi & Bluetooth.

I can actually use the calculator on an iPhone, unlike on other cell phones where you have to figure out what key corresponds to an add/multiply/divide

The Google Maps feature is amazing w/ the ability to use satellite data. The GPS integration w/ LocateMe is awesome

The weather forecast widget is nice to have - especially in the summer so you can plan your outdoor week or weekend spontaneously

My complaints thus far:

- Edge data network is acceptable
- I'd like to see bluetooth data exchange so I could sync an iPhone via bluetooth.
- FM transmitters don't work well due to interference

Invalid complaints:

- Internet access too slow

- The keyboard is hard to use - at 1st it is ... it definitely takes getting used to. Once you start letting an iPhone correct your mistakes & just hitting the space bar, it becomes pretty fast. I've always thought this was an invalid complaint because blackberry & treo are just as hard to us

Don't be fooled, this 16gb iphone is 1st Gen!
Review created: 02/06/09
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I personally only had the 4gb/8gb versions of the 1st gen iPhone, but got to play with this 16gb variant--exactly the same. Don't buy a 16gb iPhone and believe it's a 3G edition with GPS--check the back case or product code first!!

The 3g variants (8/16gb and black/white back casings) are almost identical. Depending on your uses, it won't matter which you get. Encoding and loading videos is too much work. The iPod feature functions EXACTLY as an iPod would. Sadly, the GPS is too weak to be useful, with no 3rd party routing software available.

Thoughts: 1st Gen (4gb/8gb/16gb, Edge) vs 2nd Gen (8gb/16gb, 3G+GPS)

1. The battery life for both is rather similar. The 2nd Generation iPhone wins, but not by enough to justify the upgrade.
2. The LCD digitizer (touchscreen) is practically the same with both editions--don't expect major changes.
3. The cases and dimensions of the 1st and 2nd generation iPhones are similar, but the 1st gen is "fatter" in terms of overall girth. 1st gen iphones will not fit in 2nd gen cases, and vice versa.
4. The 1st gen iPhone has a recessed phone jack at the top, and will accommodate only apple-style headphone plugs (circular cable inset). The 2nd generation is standardized, and will work with regular plugs without secondary adapters.
5. The 1st gen iPhone has a metallic case on the backside. The 2nd gen iPhone has either a white or black plastic case. The chrome trim remains the same on both devices. The plastic cases tend to scratch easier than the metallic versions, but the plastic looks better and has a better (smoother) feel to the bare touch.
6. Overall function: both versions are very similar, featuring EXTREMELY similar hardware. Aside from the GPS addition in the 2nd generation iPhone models, you will be hard-pressed to notice any differences in overall functionality--but ONLY assuming you're updated to the same firmware version on each device.

What is disturbing about this model:

1. Do NOT let it overheat. Make sure you keep it charged in a cool location with sufficient airflow. This means DON'T put it on fabric. Don't overcharge, and be sure to inspect (check for overheating) regularly. The first time it overheats (it will be HOT to the touch), the battery output will GREATLY diminish (1/2 to 1/3 capacity), and should be changed through Apple.
2. There is NO apple-supplied application for checking and resetting the iPhone battery. This is provided for MacBooks, but not the iPod line
3. All of the iPhone models are EXTREMELY fragile--immediately purchase a case (breathable if possible), or a Zagg InvisibleShield to protect it from scratches and the odd bump/bruise.
4. Internal components are flush with the case, and simple dents will cause components/features to fail
5. DO NOT attempt to open ANY iPhone model for repair if you do not have experience--the cases/trim are prone to dents/bends, and you are likely to scratch/damage internal components if you attempt to replace the digitizer or battery yourself (the most common repairs). It is better to take them directly to Apple stores for repair.
6. Based on who you talk to, Apple will ONLY honor the 1 year manufacturer warranty if the iPhone is linked to an AT&T contract. If you have Jailbroken/Unlocked your iPhone, reset it to factory firmware and specifications before attempting to deal with Apple Repair.
7. No external HD capacity detected--camera only.
8. You have to deal with iTunes to activate and sync music.

This is a great product! But it can be expensive! I'm glad I found www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk where I got mine for free :)

All I did was sign up and then completed one simple offer. I recommend the Inuit free trial offer as it only takes a few minutes to complete and its only a simple trial!

My personal recommendation is the King.com offer as it is quick, easy and only costs $5.

There are many other gadgets I got for free this way, such as consoles, iPhones, iPods, Plasma TV's and the list goes on and on.

Visit: www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk

I hope you enjoy the extra $$$'s saved in your bank account from using www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk :)

All cons of Iphone proven wrong! Read before buy!!!!!!!
Review created: 02/15/08
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

What people say are the cons.

Non removable battery:It comes with a one year warrenty send it in and get a rental if theres a problem!

Edge Network: 3g uses more power and often causes errors. I see why Steve Jobs picked it because few areas have 3g and it isnt worth inveting in yet. (In speed tests the Iphone beat several 3g phones in new york city by 10-15 seconds!)There will be a 3g model in mid 2008!

3rd party software: You can Jailbreak it!(I dont reccomend it..)But apple has supplied everything you need and in the near future it will open up to new software!(This has been confirmed for late Feb of 2008 an SDK will be released allowing any third party app.)

Breaks easy: Go to youtube and search break iphone or smash iphone. In one video they held it under water for nearly a minute and it was still semi responsive! In an other they droped it off of a 3 story building and it still worked!

I will probley never buy a phone not made by apple again. I can find Zero flaws with mine. If your half interested go to a local At@t store and test it out. Also prepay is an option but im not going to go into that. Hope this helped!

THE 16GB 2GS ARE THE BEST OF ANY PHONE OUT THERE. THE 3G JUST PLAIN STINKS,, TOO MANY PROBLEMS,, IF THERE WAS A DIFFERENT CARRIER, THEN THE 3G WOULD BE THE BEST. BUT THERE MARRIED!! SO THE 16GB 2G RULES !! STAY WITH THE 2G FOR NOW! MAYBE WHEN APPLE MOVES TO VERIZON, THE 3G WILL WORK!

Everthing I have to say about this phone has probably already been said. I bought this phone because I was told that it could not be used on the network where I live. I had to prove them wrong. After unlocking it, it works just fine. I had planned to resell it, but after using it for almost a month, I have decided to keep it for myself. The wi-fi works great, even when the signal is low. The iPod feature is awsome, I use it all the time. I have read that people have problems with the battery life, but I go three days without recharging and I use the phone all the time, including the bluetooth. I have games and music loaded into it and I use it almost everyday for hours at a time. I think the touch screen is great. I get alot of looks wherever I go with it. I have had people offer to buy it from me on the spot. My iPhone is the 8 gb model, and I find that it has plenty of memory for me right now. I may go with the 16 gb model in the future, but for now this is fine for me. I like this phone well enough that I have bought another one for my wife. She has used my iPhone and she also likes it. The sound is very good when receiving calls. I have had no problem with it dropping calls, and I have terrible coverage where I live. But so far, not a problem even in the bad areas. One word sums it up for me. "AWSOME." I do, however, wish I could connect to my computer with the bluetooth, but that is not really important. It does everything I want it to do and much more.

  Missing some key abilities
Review created: 01/22/09
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

1. No glogal search, no attempt by Apple to bring one to market.
2. Must pay wi-fi data fee above having free wifi from DSL Account (They double-dip you)
3. Applecare a joke. If a part is falling off, and there is the slightest scratch on the device, they accuse you of having dropped it.
4. Nickel and dime you for stuff the thing should do built in.
5. have to use itunes to get anything for it, many of which should not be add-ons, but standard.
6. Shoots still, with no video capability.
In many ways, the Palm Treo is a much more useful machine.

I have bought my last cellphone! This one's a keeper!
Review created: 09/02/08(updated 04/02/09)
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Seriously, I am not even interested in the 3G version. AT&T's 3G network is so sporadic you'd need wifi or edge most of the time anyway, unless you're in a big city. I love the classic iphone over the cheap plastic look too. No other phone impresses me as much as this one. I don't even look at anything else any more. Oh, and don't forget, when locked to AT&T's network this phone is still the best deal for package prices. Only $20/month for 200 Text Messages and Unlimited Internet, $30/month for 1500 Text Messages and Unlimited Internet, $40/month for Unlimited Text and Internet.....Still cheaper than the package pricing on the new 3G. Save yourself a ton of money. Pay a little more for a used iPhone 2g/Edge but save much more in monthly fees in the long run.

I even went and purchased an unlocked Blackberry Storm just to try it out.....Hands down, the iPhone is still much better. Have owned Blackberrys, Palms, Nokia's, Samsungs, Motorola Q and Razr, Sony Ericsson P15i. All nice phones, but the iPhone is the cream of the crop. Easiest to use right out of the box. The longest learning curve is the keyboard and that's it.

LIKES
- User Interface=No learning curve with this phone.
- Screen Size=Great for watching movies, surfing the net. Very crisp and clear images.
- Keyboard=While it takes a little getting used to, once you do get used to it, it's much
better than using a number pad to text or send e-mail.
- Camera=For a 2 megapixel camera the still pictures come out very nicely. Better than other
cellphones.
- Applications=Now that the Apple App Store is open the phone will become even more
useful and fun.

DISLIKES
- Can't shoot videos.
- No landscape mode keyboard. Would make it easier to type using both thumbs.
- No Multimedia Mail. Have to send pictures to e-mail from the phone. Can't send from phone
to phone. More of a hassle than a complaint and I'm not sure if this is an iPhone thing or an
AT&T thing.

  Broken iPhones can have value
Review created: 08/18/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The iPhone is a fantastic piece of hardware. When they break, it is usually a case of woeful negligence on the part of the user. However, many small remedies can be fixed; firmware updates are one of the best examples. A skilled user can resurrect a phone from the dead more often than not. If the phone was "bricked" and is resurrected, it can turn a $100 purchase into a $500 sale. Good luck with these!
(water damage excluded, of course :)

This seller did a good job of packaging the item and description was perfect. One minor thing that wasn't in the package was the cleaning cloth, but wasn't in the description of sold items. I expected this to be in the factory package.

Other than that, I would buy from him again. Shipping took under 4 business days from purchase.

Best phone ever, any complaints are trivial. Excellent battery life, quality craftsmanship and the best phone I have ever had. You don't need an engineering degree to use it. Even if I were picky it beats my old PPC6700 any day. NOW their was a piece of &$#* regret. I never felt comfortable about the phone, it didn't have a ringer or one that you could hear, and the battery life was Nil! I think I could talk for about 1 minute before recharging. The iphone just the opposite! Just get one and watch the people clamor around. Great ego booster!

I know you've probably seen one of these postings, but IT REALLY WORKS!! I just received a PS3 completely FREE!!!! I'm doing it again, but this time I'm getting $580 CASH!!!

I PROMISE THIS WORKS!!!

Are you looking for some extra cash?
How does $580 sound?!
Get it for FREE!!! Have a look at this video first:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFKYVE__Mug

Just take 2 minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It
literally takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I
promise you, this is 100% real. Here is what you do. Click on the link
below, register, pick an account type (referral is the easiest) and
complete just 1or 2 offers (Very important that you complete the
offers otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). There
are four different free offers, all you need to do is register and
follow the instructions. And you're on your way to your free prize for
just completing this offer! I completed another offer from the same company, and just received my prize (a FREE PS3) without spending a penny!!!

Just click this link: http://www.YourFreeiPhone.com/index.php?ref=4568336

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster
online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would
regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not
use them to get a free pod, iphone or CASH
(I did the Stamps.com for a 4 week free trial and it is free! I don't
have to do anything with it). Look at the offers and coose the one
that works for you. After signing up and completing your offer, simply
refer 4-12 people or friends (depending on the FREE prize you choose)
to do the same under your link (just post the same thing as I have on
eBay or any other message board, and you'll get your referrals before
the auction even ends.)

Just click this link: http://www.YourFreeiPhone.com/index.php?ref=4568336

Then they will ship your selected item for free, I
chose the Cash. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these companies make
money, is because most people don't bother getting all the referrals.
All you have to do is post it on EBAY! They use us as advertisement by
word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes toward yours
and my free gift. These are legit companies such as Blockbuster,
Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you want. You must
use your own authentic link though. You will get your own personal
link after your orders placed.

Step 1: Click my link: http://www.YourFreeiPhone.com/index.php?ref=4568336

http://www.YourFreeiPhone.com/index.php?ref=4568336
Step 2: Sign up and chose an account type (Referral is the easiest and best).

Step 3: Complete just 1 offer (like Blockbuster or Stamps.com) and
refer up to 12 people to do the same (use eBay! Do what I did, copy my
ad).

Step 4: Receive your cash or iphone for FREE!!!!!!!!!! (Even The
Shipping Is Free!!!)

Please take advantage of this offer!!!

iphone 16gb the best iphone ever
Review created: 03/18/08
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The good: The Apple iPhone has a stunning display, a sleek design, and an innovative multitouch user interface. Its Safari browser makes for a superb Web surfing experience, and it offers easy-to-use apps. As an iPod, it shines.

The bad: The Apple iPhone has variable call quality and lacks some basic features found in many cell phones, including stereo Bluetooth support and 3G compatibility. Integrated memory is stingy for an iPod, and you have to sync the iPhone to manage music content.

The bottom line: Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesn't always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player.

Specs: Band / mode: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 (Quadband); Talk time: Up to 480 min; Combined with: With digital camera / digital player

Just great. Compares to the blackberry for organisation
Review created: 03/16/08

Used Blackberry before. Had sync problems with my mac and now have resolved that problem. Different usage is much faster to use others not. A definite Wow factor according to the overall look and design. Difficult for me though to find accessories since I am a canadian user.

If just looking for pocket organiser, this is not the item to use. The blackberry performed better in an "office type world" frame of mind.

I am really happy with my purchase.

I bought this Iphone since it was my best choice since it has an excellent presentation and functionality. I was waiting to see and review other phones that looks to be simplier than the iphone but at the end I considered that the Iphone wss the phone I like the most. This phone came with 8 Giga of memory with option to include an addicional removable memory, which was one of my requirements that I have, after having memory storage capability problem.
I recommend the Iphone to anybody interested to have an excellent phone with the best presentation.

I recently bought some Iphone's on ebay, mostly a positive experience i have to say, but there can be some hidden tricks~~ Like the add state "16Gb" and you receive 8 Gb instead, in the add someone asks if the device has water damage, seller replies "No, absolutely not" but when opening up you see that is has been drowned in water ... so, not such a fair deal
