Worms: A Space Oddity (Wii, 2008)

Its a wonderful game, as is the entire Worms series, but as a part of the series it is seriously lacking. The game for the Wii has decreased its weaponry by a lot from its former titles and also the amount of one player missions are fewer in number and far less challenging, giving it lower replay value.

Also, Worm: A Space Oddity tries too hard to incorporate the Wii-mote functions, meaning that some items are exceptionally hard to use and gives hard-core veterans a whole to style of game to overcome.

But sentiments from former Worms editions aside, Worms: A Space Oddity is all-in-all a good game and fun for fans and beginners alike.

Hi! this is my first review. It is for team17's Worms: a space oddity. Worms: A space oddity is the latest in a long running series of worm games. It is a turn based strategy game with deformable landscape, 10 weapons, 5 different tools, randomly generated landscapes and, of course, cute little worms intent on killing each other. All these things keep this game fresh for a large number of game plays. While retaining the essence of all the previous games, it lost several key aspects of the previous titles in the series, such as only a fraction of the weapons provided in the previous games and a comparatively short single player mode, with 36 missions. This is, of course, still a lot of missions, but the game play of the missions themselves is quite unsatisfying with mostly modified cpus as your enemy. Another thing about the single player missions I found unsatisfying is that, in order to beat some particular missions, you have to find parts of a space ship usually buried under landscape. This is all just fine, but the only way to get to them is, of course, by blowing up the landscape. If you blow the landscape too close, the spaceship part explodes, forcing you to redo the entire mission. Each mission takes approximately 10-20 minutes and having to redo them is frustrating as heck. Moving on, there are six different minigames that are both fun and entertaining. However, only one minigame is available initially with the other five being unlocked through single player mode, making five of the minigames quite unaccessible to casual gamers. Moving on to other aspects of the game, I found blowing up enemy worms with a complex arsenal quite satisfying, with the added bonus of ticking of my sister as I do it. Also, creating my own landscape with personalized weapons was a quite satisfying to me. However, with only limited customization of my own worms, the possibility of a strong customization was stopped short. As I said before, the essence of the previous worm games is still present, making this game great for casual gamers. If you are a dedicated worms fan, I recommend Worms 3d for the gamecube, or, if you have a pc, worms4 and worms armageddon/world party. Thanks for reading!

This game is rather poorly done. The visuals are very small and even on my 50" TV it is still rather small and unclear. The menu is quite awkward and there doesn't appear to be any team mode. The controls are VERY hard to learn, and work very awkwardly, I feel every time I go and play the game I have to relearn it all because it is so difficult. The weapons are a bit short in list but of themselves they are great worms style destruction. The terrain and landscapes are perfect and very lush and great alien worlds but the worms themselves are blurry and poorly modeled. It is nice to have it on a new game system but it could have been done much better. Hard to suggest this game, if you have never played Worms before and don't have a way to play Worm's 2 then this is a good choice. Die-hard Worms fans will be rather disappointed with the clarity and smooth action it is missing from the previous Worms games.

Having only just started playing, it plays just like all other worms games -- with the exception of having to use the Wiimote as a pointer for the homing weapons, a HUGE plus. Anyone who's played Worms knows how hard it is to use the homing weapons with a joystick. Still, the multiplayer weapon selection seems lacking at this point, so only a 4-star.

My wife and I play this a lot. We plan on doing some games against some friends over the internet. Not as good variety of weapons as the old computer versions.

They've could done it very mych better! The images are too small and you don't have so much choice for weapons. I like the version of 1998, but not that one!

I thought it was cute at first but a little hard to understand. After playing around with it though I figured it out. It's fun at first but it gets boring after a while. It's more fun to play in bigger groups with it.

If you've played Worms before, it will take a little getting used to the Wii twist they put on it. The controls are are not very user friendly. This game is not able to hook up to WI-FI, a feature that would be nice. Overall, it is still Worms and once you get used to how it works, its still fun. Thats why I give it a GOOD rating.

Everything about this worms is bad. The controls, the use of the weapons, the graphics. Don't buy it.

Well this was a purchase for my brother but he has no complains. Awesome game according to him. For those of you who are long time Worms fans, this game does not deliver compared to the others, but is still fun. The game is hard to figure out at first and takes time to understand the controls. I recommend playing on a larger television because the worms are so small. The game has also lost some of its integrity, giving up its old and faithful weaponry. But to make a long story short, the use of the Wii's motion controls offset these issues to make a fun game. The most difficult part of the game is learning the motion controls.

I was looking for the Worms game for a long time. It is discontinued with most stores and found it with this seller. The game was in new condition. Such a fun game.

It goes back to the basics of worms games, abandoning the idiocy that was worms 3d. this is an upgrade from the engine for the DS, but looks great, and feels fantastic.

there are some draw backs, and the controls for some of the weapons take some getting used to. You might want to create a custom fighting... thing (can't think of the term)... that lets you choose how long the rounds are, &c. that way you can increase the round time-limit, so people can figure out how to use their weapons, at first.

Product is only playable in USA so why would u ship international for thats ridicules he never replied to my emails and isnt going to give me refund so im currently stuck with a game that doesn't work on my Wii very unhappy
