The Nursing Mother's Companion by Kathleen Huggins (1999, Paperback)

I received a pamphlet copy of a few chapters of this book while in the hospital after delivery of my second child. I really considered myself a champion breast-feeder. I'd had a really positive experience nursing my first child. However, the information in those few chapters was excellent! I learned even more very useful information.
I bought this book because a friend is expecting a baby and she plans to nurse. I gave the book to her in hopes that she would gain from the information.
I recommend this book beacuse it answers lots of common questions about nursing. It's not biased. I recommend reading about breast-feeding prior to having a baby and being familiar with the prospect of problems and how to surpass them.

Great book, it gives you lots of tips about all the different problems that arise during the first stages of breastfeeding helping you identify and solve them. I like the very professional aproach of the writer: she does not try to sell you 'any idea' as you would find in the "La Leche League" book which implies that if you supplement or choose to bootle feed your baby you are not a good mother. Now that I finally got to master my breastfeeding process, I keep it as a consultation book. I highly reccomment this book for any mother even if they decide not to breastfeed their babies.

I just started reading this book after it was recommended to me by my midwife. It has a lot of examples and tips that are very useful so far. It is helping me to get prepared for what to expect! I didn't, however, like how negative the author is about formula feeding. I know several moms who have tried to breastfeed and were unable to for different reasons. Their children turned out perfectly fine, just as me and my sisters turned out very healthy on formula. Don't let that get you discouraged! Take the advice and use it to your advantage. What ever makes you the most comfortable is what will bond you and your baby!

This book was WONDERFUL!!!!!!! It was full of very helpful information. I nursed my 1st child for 13 weeks and really want to be able to do it much longer this time around. I believe that this book will help me to reach my goal.

I had this book for my second child and found many helpful hints. Great for a new mom or mom-to-be who plans to nurse and wants some help trouble-shooting.
