The Omega Man (DVD, 2007)

If you like classics, then you will like this one. It was one of the fore runers to the new "I am legend" with Will Smith. The story is neat considering the period in which it was made. The Omega man with Charlton Heston takes place in a post bio destroyed L.A. and I am legend takes place in New York. Both have the same story lines with a few twists and turns along the way. The Omega man is interesting because it was filmed in 1971, without all the c g special effects we have today. Also the cold war between the us and ussr was still going on. Although the movie seems kind of campy at times due to the time period, it is a good movie. You also have Charlton Heston of Planet of the Apes, Moses, and ben-hur fame as the main character. This movie is worth seeing. It tells a story with bio-warefare, mass destruction, and the end of civilization with flare. It is enjoyable viewing. "The Omega Man" is worth the purchase price. And if you like this one then you will also enjoy "I Am Legend"

The Omega Man rocks. This movie was the inspiration for I Am Legend. Charlton Heston makes the movie. Basically the two plots are sort of the same. The Omega Man's was biological warfare wiped out mankind and I Am Legend's was a cancer antidote gone arwy. The mutants in both movies were ruthless but in I Am Legend they were also berzerk and animalistic. The story's good, the actors and actresses are noteworthy and the end of the movie left you in suspense. A must for your sci-fi collection.

If you like older, campy sci-fi flicks this is one of the ones you have to see. It has everything from biological warfare to creatures of the night - good and evil - dark and light - classic themes. Not quite up there with "Planet of the Apes" or "Soylent Green", but Heston gives you good solid entertainment.

Fun to watch the film that inspired WIll Smith's I Am Legend. Fun 1970s sci-fi! Cut it some slack and you will be entertained!

A side of Charleton Heston one might not know. Great film during a time of great racial tension between whites and blacks. Keep film beside "The Greatest Story Ever Told"; another of Charleton Heston's great films.

I grew up with this move, it is one of Charlton Heston best.The movie is about a biological war that kills almost everyone in the world.The material in the move is dated but is still great fun to watch. The move has the sci-fi masters touch that only Charlton Heston could give it. He will be missed.

Great movie way better than the new remake of it called I am legend. But I've always liked the older movies, very few remakes are as good as the originals are in my opinion. Even with all the new stuff they can do now the older movies just seem better.

A great classic, if you liked iam legend, try the origanal.

The omega man is kind of a fun movie if you enjoy the last man on earth scenario. It was made in 1971 and stars Charlton Heston. It’s the first remake of the 1964 Vincent Price movie “the last man on earth”. This movie was later reinvented in the 2007 Will Smith movie “I am legend”. Charlton Heston provides an entertaining performance however the antagonists in the movie seam bit unrealistic by today’s standards. I like this kind of movie but I have to say it’s not for everyone. The DVD had a short making of that seamed ok and some interviews that seamed kind of recent. But I was a little disappointed that special features didn’t include a commentary track. If you like any of the movies I mentioned, then I would recommend “the quiet earth”. It’s somewhat of hidden sci-fi gem.

One of the best Sci-Fi Movies of all time. Much better than the modern re-make.

The story is similar to I am Legend and is apparently from the same book by that title. The movie is about an outbreak of a virus that turns people into zombie type creatures. Charlton Heston is the main character, and he goes about helping this clan found on the outskirts of the city who have been infected, but not yet showing symptoms of the changeover. There is some success with his experiments, and he is typified as a "Christ-like" savior, or so it seems, by the end of the movie. His blood heals and saves them from the zombie death. Don't want to spoil the ending, but that reference seems obvious to me and others who watched it with me by the end of the movie. This may or may not have been the intention of the author, since I have not read the book, I can not make that determination. Would make for an interesting book discussion though.

Heston tends to overact and the character lacks real depth but it is a good "B" movie for the late 60's. I like the storey line better than the "I am legend" version and would have liked to have seen the Will Smith movie follow the more believable line that the omega man follows. If for no other reason this makes this version worth the watch.

i like charlton heston.an excellent actor and will be missed. will smith in the movie- i am legend- is the modern version of this movie.both are very good.

Movie was in great shape. We had seen I am Legend, and had forgotten that The Omega Man was about Robert Neville. Story line just a little different, but we really enjoyed it. Thanks

Charlton Heston is one of my all time favorite actors & person,mainly due to his beliefs.For me,as this was made when I was younger,is a cult favorite.Acting is a bit stillted,trying to blend 70's new culture with the conservative character of Neville just misses the mark.Action scenes are also to me,slow,predictable & somewhat unreal.
