Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (Wii, 2007)

I am not yet completely through this game, but completely love it so far. (For reference, I am female in my late 30's). I am not real quick with the whole hand/eye thing and am usually very bad at video games. This one makes you think, and for the most part, quick fingers is not an issue. The object is to find objects and then figure out how to use them to complete each stage of the game. I read another review that compared this game to Sierra's Leisure Suit Larry series, which I am finding to be true. So... if you are looking for something that uses your brain (as well as great use of the Wii remote), this is the game for you. Enjoy !!

If you went by the title and the way this game is presented you would almost be sure that this title is going to be another run of the mill run and jump character adventure.

You would be wrong. You solve puzzles, use the WiiMote in amazing ways to interact with objects and your environment. Playing this is a blast. There are alternate ways to play most levels so the replay value of this game is quite high. There's lots to collect and mini games to master.

Please buy this game...it is absolutely gorgeous, challenging, engaging, exciting, fun and worth every penny.

AND if you love it as much as I do, let Capcom know!

Zack & Wiki is one of the most imaginative, fun, and challenging games I have ever played. Solving the games puzzles is a highly rewarding experience. When you finally figure out how to do one small thing after spending half an hour struggling, you really feel a sense of accomplishment. It really reminds me of games from the past which required real brain power to get through.

Gameplay- 10/10
Difficulty- 10/10 (unless you cheat and look it up on GameFAQs)
Graphics- 8/10 (They're intentionally different and quirky)
Story- 9/10 (Personally I think it's well-written and quite funny)
Multiplayer- 7/10 (Although only one person can control gameplay at a time, it's easy to make Zack & Wiki a team experience)

Overall- 9.6/10

Fun game. Controls are a bit tough to get used to. Puzzle start off easy and do get more complicated as you go, and a few will even leave you a bit frustrated. I would recommend this game for a fun, one player, puzzle/adventure game.

it's a fun game! it is basically a puzzle that needs to be solved in a fun way. Graphics are great, and there are various ways that you can beat a level. It can get pretty difficult at times. It is a great way to enhance your critical thinking skills as well. It is not a battle game or anything like that. So if that is what you're looking for, I suggest you don't buy this game.
There are two characters, zack and wiki, and basically you go to a level and solve that scenario by trying to get to the treasure. You control Zack, and wiki is just his companion who you can use to obtain certain items and gives you hint at times.
I recommend it! It's unique and fun in its own way.

This game is fun and challenging. You use the wii remote held in different positions to get through puzzle like stages. You can use a hint mode or not to make it more challenging. Highly recommended for the puzzle lovers.

My 6 yr old loves this game. Some wii games are too hard for him but he has been able to figure this one out pretty easily. Good game, it's cute too!

Game is fun, but the challenges are too long for kids by the end. They lose patience and give up easily.

Do excuse the ponderously-long game title. This game is a puzzle game with a beautifully-drawn, fully-developed personality. As you collect treasure chests with the help of a sea-rabbit named Maddy, you'll get pieces of concept artwork, music and sound effect snippets, and video clips that are enjoyable to view and hear, and they also give insight into the massive effort that goes into creating a modern-day video game.

About the game itself: Truly a pleasure. When pieces of any given puzzle are solved, you receive HirameQ, the points by which your cunning and smarts are measured in the game. Many of the puzzles are quite challenging, but all are solveable. If you find you can't solve a puzzle, you may use an Oracle Doll to give you a hint, which are purchased from the Sea-rabbit pirate central, from a character named Granny. I used one, and I didn't need to, but it was late and I wasn't thinking real sharp. I would recommend never using them. I did use platinum tickets, however, and quite a few, simply in the interest of time. A platinum ticket lets you have a do-over, so you don't have to start the round from the beginning. These are also purchased from Granny.

You'll come to love the characters in what is a truly great and inventive game. Where a game like Super Mario Galaxy is merely gimmicky (ah, but what gimmicks!), this game is ingenious. Please buy it if only to support brilliant games.

Whether a game is a good or a bad one, it obviously depends on personal taste. But regardless of personal preference it must be specified somewhere that this game is only for kids and it's absolutely of no interest for any human being who's more than 3 years old.

I bought this game because my son loves pirates, and it is a treasure hunting game. He received it for Christmas and wanted to play right away, but his dad and I wanted to try it first to see how difficult it was. There is puzzles that you have to solve, and items you need to collect, some levels are harded them other so you have the option of using the second player to point to things and help your child out. My son played it with me and some of the simple puzzles I could not figure out, he did. The only thing I did not like about the game is the levels that are difficult because my son has trouble, but he is only 8 and new to regukar video games( he had a V Smile before).

A game that gets you thinking critically to solve problems. It's fun! The only thing I don't like is that the characters don't talk. You have to read the subtitles. Not that big of a deal just like games where they talk.

This is one of those puzzle adventure games where you have to figure out what to do and in what order to make things happen and get to the next step or win the prize (in this case, a treasure chest). It's a lot of fun, addictive, and even has some humor too. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes puzzle games (problem solving, sequencing, and logic). The only negative aspect is sometimes frustration, but there are ways to "buy" hints during gameplay.

Fun to play but quickly gets really hard. If you need to beat/finish every game you play then get ready to invest some serious time.

I haven't finished the game, but I've finished at least 3 areas (15+ stages).

The game is a mixture of moving the pointer around the scenery, looking for objects to manipulate (usually noticed by a vibration and visual movement). Clicking on objects causes interactions. The interactions often involve moving the wiimote in a number of positions that seem more intuitive than WarioWare Smooth moves (although in one situation, I suffered for a good 5-10 minutes). The game does have a place to practice using items, but it just happens that the one I had difficulty was not listed (ice mirrors).

I've really enjoyed playing this game so far and find it challenging to think of what items I need, where to get them, and in what order to use them.

The only downfall I see is that there is not much replay value once it is finished. I've read that there is a multiplayer mode (more like cooperative with the first player controlling the action), but I'm bound to tell the first player what to do. However, the downfall is minimal based on the price I bought it at. I'm likely to hold onto this game even after I finish it, in hopes that I forget what to do after an extended length of non-play.

This game was terrible! I read the reviews and decided to buy it for my son (6yrs. old) and could not believe how this worked. I guess we should have rented it before we purchased it. First of all, it is hard for me and my husband to play(and we are good at games). Second, it kept on pausing for us to stop and read which is really annoying. Third, the sounds and noise is horrible. This was NOT a fun game and would never recommend this (especially for a child), actually we discourage anyone from wasting money on this so-called game. I do recommend the game Crash of the Titans, this is a really fun game - perfect for my 6 year old son!

This is a decent game... although there are a bit too much "talking" in this game with greatly slows down the flow... great graphics, fun characters, challenging puzzles... my kids love this game...

Looking back on my review, (especially since completing the game), this is one of the best games that Wii has made. My kids enjoyed the story line and collecting all the treasures. As the parent, I loved this game. It was challenging, exciting, and simply a fun game.

We love this game. Me and my husband stayed up til midnight on a work night playing it. It gets you moving and my some loves it too

I bought it on Ebay on a fluke because it was so cheap. THIS GAME IS A PLEASANT SUPRISE. Don't let the cartoonish (childish) graphics fool you. This game is also great for adults. Here is what happened to me.
1. First tuturial level: I wan't impressed.
2. 2nd level: it took a few times to figure out the puzzle. Still not impressed.
3. 3rd screen: Oh, this gets interesting.
4. 4th screen: Cool, puzzle.
5. 5th screen: Even more ingenious puzzle.
6. 6th screen and beyond: I LOVE THIS GAME.
(my wife and I enjoy discussing possible solutions to the puzzles. I'm sure this would be a great "family" game where parents and kids could actually spend mutial time with a thoughful game)
This is an enjoyable and intelligent game.

I heard about this game by googling "top ten wii games" and saw it on two of the lists because it was described as intuitive and fun.

It's a puzzle based game...not much of a story line...you're a kid trying to obtain pirate treasure and to do so, you have to solve various puzzles. I'm the type of person that enjoys solving puzzles, so I got the game and am very pleased with it. It is challenging, but not so difficult you get frustrated and want to throw the wiimote through the tv...(granted i'm 28...if i was 13, it may be a different story).

One of the funnest aspects of the game is the way in which you manipulate the items in the puzzles...you actually use the wiimote and maniuplate it in the very same way as the item you're trying to manipulate on the screen (i.e. to pull a lever down, you hold the wiimote vertically and pull it down, or to turn a crank, you hold the wiimote sideways and crank it as you would a lever).

The game is quite fun and very entertaining...I would recommend it to anyone I know.

My kids are playing this game together and they love it. I bought it because I read that some of the older Wii games such as this one were better than the new ones and I think they were correct.

Great graphics, good controls, and many challenging puzzles. Interesting characters and good story line keep the game fun from start to finish.
