PROS: super thin, good durability, double the battery life, good sound quality. iTunes software, user friendly (the best out there).

CONS: still wouldn't want to sit on it. the new Nano's tough aluminum casing is perfect for everyday use. it can take the beating but the aluminum casing will ding up if you drop it though. (my nano has a minor dent on the corner) not happy about that. it definetly needs a case for this.

The twenty four hour battery life is noticably better than the generation one. generation one is twelve hours. generation two is twenty four hours. (double life)

As for the screen brightness, it is way more brighter than the generation one. I also have the generation one and I compared them two and the generation one is a bit though. generation two is way brighter. I bought the 8GB because of the size and I wouldn't have to worry about the capacity in the future.

The new nano from apple is definitely an improvement over the previous design. When I got my first iPod, they had just come out with the new nano and video iPod. I was intending on getting a nano, but I wasn't happy with the available hard drive sizes, so I ended up getting the video iPod. The video and 1st gen nano are good players, but the malebility of them is just shy of horrendous. When I heard they were selling nanos that were made out of annodized aluminum, and had a bigger hard drive, I knew that I had to get my hands on one.

So far, the 2nd gen iPod nano has been phenomenal. The battery life is near 5x as good as any other mp3 player that I've ever had with an LCD Screen, The picture is beautiful, the click wheel is very smooth, And Most of all, There still isn't a scratch on it.

The only reason I didn't give this a 5/5 is because of the price. I guess larger but smaller is going to cost more than larger and larger.

Thank you,
-Jake Moore

I am VERY disappointed in my purchase - bought it from a seller in Texas - Jackie Ferguson - paid Jackie Ferguson through PayPal - but a DIFFERENT seller from China shipped my "Apple ipod" and IT IS A COMPLETE FAKE! I have filed complaints with eBay and PayPal and no one is helping me. eBay couldn't even tell me why eBay wouldn't allow me to post a comment to Jackie Ferguson's site; said they would look into it and never got back to me. I will never buy anything from eBay again and caution others that the seller you buy from and the seller you pay is not necessarily the seller! And if you have a problem, PayPal and eBay will not help you - you are on your own. Shame on you eBay for not responding to my complaints - unacceptable customer service.

I chose to buy this iPod Nano 2nd Gen. because not only did it have a good price point to begin with, but it also had either the Buy It Now option or the Best Offer option. What I did not realize was that the stock photo and description of what was a "real" iPod Nano 2nd Gen. was not actually what I got. I paid immediately, but it took over 2 weeks to get the product because the seller claimed that it was coming directly from his distributor. When I got it, not only was it not a 2nd Gen. iPod, it was a pieced together "fake" iPod that looked like a 1st Gen. iPod with the "click" wheel instead of the scroll. It also did not have the familiar iPod user interface software on it, and the mount on the bottom for the computer connection was not similar to other iPods. It was the equivalent of a USB Flash drive that iTunes would not even recognize when you plugged it in. Didn't even have a serial number on the back of it. When I confronted the seller about all this, he claimed that he had been ripped off by his distributor, and that he had no idea what was in the box since he sent it directly to me without opening it. He offered to take it back for a refund to salvage his reputation as a good seller on eBay. I sent it back, but the tracking information showed that he never signed for it or picked it up. I never got my refund, either, and the package has since been sent back to me. It is sitting at my post office, now. I am letting PayPal's legal team handle the dispute at this point.

The 8GB IPOD NANO 2nd Gen
Review created: 01/19/07
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

About a year ago I became interested in purchasing an MP3 Player. I shopped around trying out all the available brands at the time. My conclusion then and to this day is that Apple makes an MP3 Player that beats the rest in every aspect.

Why is it so good?

Ease of use. The learning curve on my Nano was 5 minutes. It is so easy to operate it's amazing. I've played with others that were just overly complex, yet did the same things as the Ipod.

Quality. From my year of ownership I'd have to say that the Nano is a very well built piece of electronics. I've had no problems to date despite heavy use and the occasional accident. The battery still holds a good charge after hundreds of recharges.

Accessaries! All you have to do is type "Ipod" in the ebay search engine and you will see that there are TONS of stuff you can buy to complement your Ipod. I've seen that it can be a real hassle to find aftermarket stuff for other brands. This allows you to really personalize your Ipod and make it fit any application you need it for. Example, I just purchased a 2007 Honda Fit. For a little extra the dealer installed the Honda Music Link. This allows me to plug my Ipod into the car's sterio and search through my song using voice prompts!

Conclusion: The only downside I see is in the difference in price. It is possible to purchase most other brands at a lower price. But you are definitely getting more for your money when you buy the Ipod for 50 bucks or so more.
Hope this helps!

  Another fake iPod Nano!

I'm a seasoned eBayer, having over 670 feedbacks to my credit (all positive). I am a very cautious buyer, and cannot believe that I received a fake iPod! I have bought 3 iPods in the past off eBay (a Mini and 2 photo iPods), and had no problem whatsoever, because I know to always check the seller's feedback and ask questions up front if I'm unsure of anything. My daughter's Mini was stolen a couple of months ago, along with her entire purse, and she had been looking for an iPod that she really liked to replace it with. She wanted another Mini, but settled for an 8 GB Nano when I was able to find a bright pink one, because it was different from anyone else's 8 GB Nano. I had already checked Apple's website and found that they only make them in black and red, so I questioned the seller about whether the item was real, and was assured that it was! Let me tell you, it's a GREAT looking copy! But it is NOT real, nor does it work properly. ITunes doesn't recognize it and will not use it. The buttons do not work as the genuine iPod's buttons do. In fact, there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to how they work, as they appear to change from one time to the next. There is an extra little "loop" on the bottom between the dock port and the headphone jack, which is supposed to be a "mic" according to the labeling on the back of the unit. The screen is a larger rectangle, and it even has a video capability, although you'd need a magnifying glass to see anything well enough. The menu is nothing like a genuine article, either. Instead of a list, it has separate screens for each function, with large colored cartoonish pictures on each. The workings of it are absolutely incomprehensible, and of COURSE it had no instructions, except for what appears to be the quick start brochure from a genuine iPod! So, be VERRRRY careful out there, people!! Even seasoned veterans of eBay can get taken, as I did! Good luck to everyone.

There is no need to write a review for a Genuine Apple Ipod - everyone knows what they do and how they work. I purchased an Apple Ipod and got a cheap knock off from China. Sure it has the Apple logo on the front (the real ones don't) and a shiny sticker on the back to tell me I I paid for 8GB. I cannot find out because it won't stay on which doesn't matter because you cannot put any music on it anyway. After I purchased this "ipod" the seller removed the listing so you could not get back to it at all (this should not be allowed by ebay) and the seller was suddenly no longer a registered user (this should bot be allowed either)so there is no recourse with ebay. The lesson here - buy anything of value from a store you can walk in the front door.

The purchase itself went through without any issues. It was once the product was received when the issue began. The eBay listing was for an Apple iPod 2nd gen. 8GB, MP3 player however, what was received was a cheap knockoff replica that did not even sync with iTunes. When I tried to contact the seller I received no response. Finally filed a claim through PayPal to get my money back. I was very disappointed as this was my first purchase on eBay.

I was not satisfied with this i-pod. It was fake and the battery only last for about 5 minutes. It worked for about five minutes before it locked itself and it is still hanging. Can not turn it off or on. I would never do business with this seller again, and keep out all of you. It is not a original apple i-pod!

First, the seller said they were in Lousiana and in fact were in China! The item arrived broken from the poor packaging and long distance traveled. Finally, when I tried to follow up I was ignored by the seller. Fortunately I filed a grievance with pay pal and they resolved the problem. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with a purchase.

  8 GB iPod Nano
Review created: 07/04/07
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I personally feel that the 8 gb iPod nano is a bit of a "tweener." With 8 gb of storage capacity, or about 2000 songs, you can fit a lot ... but not quite everything. The advantages of the 8 gb nano are the compact size and use of flash memory rather than the spinning disk drive featured on the larger video iPods (the flash memory is less likely to malfunction if dropped or bumped). This is great if you are predominantly using the iPod for workking out or "on the go" use. However, I quickly realized that I wanted to put my entire music collection on my iPod and decided to upgrade to the 30 video within about 2 weeks. My advice would be to think about what you are really wanting to do with your iPod before you purchase. I think 8 gb is prolly overkill for a work-out MP3 player (unless you are training for mega-marathons) but not nearly enough to rip an entire music collection. I would personally go for the 30 gb video or wait for the 16+gb nano if you must have the smaller size and flash memory.

This woman is a fraud and needs prosecuted. I am attempting to get my money back, but the money is not the most important thing. What is important is that she be held accountable for her actions. The i-pod is a fake and does not even work. Not to mention the fact that it came from China. Boy, I'll bet she had a good Christmas with all of the money she scammed folks out of. I bet Apple would love to know that she is even using their trademark!! Maybe a little prison time and a girlfriend named Big Fran would cure her of her little problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The iPod Nano is hot. With 8GB, you can have it all!
Review created: 10/04/06

Apple Computer continues to revolutionize the definition of style and portability with its iPod line of digital media players, and this iPod Nano is no exception.

The iPod Nano literally stunned skeptics and fans alike with its incredible storage, small size, and appealing design.

Now, the 2nd generation of iPod Nano is here, and its better in several ways:

1) It's thinner. Hard to believe, but it is actually even easier to carry and hold in its new form factor.

2) Longer battery life. The new design is advertised at up to 24 hours of playtime. At least double the old models.

3) Brighter screen. Even better for reading in daylight and showing photos, this screen is 40% brighter than the first generation model.

4) Color! Apple has released five new colors: pink, green, blue, silver, and black.

This is the top of the line - the 8GB model. It only comes in Black, which is becoming Apple's "premium" color. For me, storage is essential, especially if you have a large music collection, or you have photos that you'd like to also carry around with you. If you want your iPod to last, this is the model for you. With 8GB, you'll have plenty of room.

I cannot recommend the iPod Nano highly enough.

2nd Generation iPod Nano is a must buy!
Review created: 09/26/06
by:
4 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The Nano was brought out to replace the Mini, but this new remastering of the iPod is a fusion of the 1st generation Nano and the Mini. Available in capacities of 2, 4, and 8GB (priced at $149, $199, and $249, respectively) these have a scratch-resistant aluminum shell, rounded edges, and various colors like the mini, though the colors are only available in the 4GB models. You can get a 2GB Nano, though it only comes in Silver. If you go under Apple.com’s website for deals and refurbished products, you can still get a 2GB Nano for $99.00, but remember it is the first generation. I purchased the 8GB Nano, though it only comes in black, but this version is the largest for storage.

Though it looks like the iPod Mini, it is more like the 1st generation Nano. The 2nd Generation Nano is the same height and width as the original Nano, but with the rounded edges, it feels like it is shorter on the sides. This design also makes it feel a lot thinner than it was, though it is only a .01 inches thinner. The center button has changed too, having a concaved button for your selection, which makes it very easy to use and place your thumb without looking. This new Nano, with the same body shape, now has a longer battery life. Apple claims that it will last 24 hours, but I was able to get just over 25 hours of playtime – Which is nice.

The Nano comes with similar features as the previous version such as Volume Limit, Stopwatch, Screen Lock, and support for the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, but now has a music search function, a brighter screen (40% brighter), improved sound quality (in my opinion), and the newly redesigned headphones.

Also, the bottom of this unit has changed slightly. The headphone jack and the sync port are slightly farther apart, which eliminated some of my old accessories, which made me slightly disappointed.

In regards to syncing, this unit actually takes longer to sync than my old Nano. To sync 2GB on the first generation took roughly 5 minutes, but with the 2nd generation of newly designed Nano’s, it took almost 10 minutes to do 2 gigs. This seems to be the common findings amongst other 2nd generation Nano owners as well. They did upgrade the software right after the release, but I have not noticed a difference in syncing.

A downside that the Nano did not get that the 5th Generation Ver. 2.0 of the iPod received was the option to purchase games from iTunes. Hopefully this will be something that will change in the future for the Nano. Also, the new packaging, which is environmentally friendly, does not have a CD version of iTunes included in the packaging, which is going to disappoint first time iPod Nano buyers.

As a fan of the Mini and a converter to the Nano, I love this design. I really do. I think the aluminum casing is the way to go. I was really reluctant to give my Mini up for the Nano, but now that the redesigned Nano is this way, it is a perfect blend of the two. I highly recommended this device to Apple lovers and new MP3 enthusiasts alike.

Pros:
-Brighter screen
-Better sound
-Aluminum scratch-resistant casing
-Concave select button
-Amazing battery-life: 24 hours plus!
-Search features
-New colors to choose from

Cons
-Still no built in FM tuner
-Does not play movies
-No games through iTunes
-Sync port and headphone jack put farther apart not allowing old accessory use

Apple has totally revamped the iPod nano, and made the coolest mp3 player even better. With a brighter display, a thinner design, longer battery life, anodized aluminum case similar to the mini and 5 different colors, Apple has addressed the problems that plagued the 1st gen nano and increased capacity as well.

I love this Ipod it is awesome.
It holds 2000 songs, it looks cool, the cast aluminum shell is strong and feels good. I've owned mine for about 1 year now and it still looks brand new. It doesn't have the big shiny metal backing like the previous nano's. That was huge for me, I hated my older nano with the finger prints and scratchs. I bought mine refurbished at a great price, came with everything and looked brand new. Had a tiny little scratch as described, but it was hardly noticeable. I love the battery life. Not that I listen to it for 24 hours, I usually only use it maybe an hour or two every other day. But the battery stays charged for about a month. The older nano's needed to be charged every day or two. It's screen is brighter and helps when looking for stuff in the dark. Thats all I can think of to prove this is completely awesome.

The only thing bad about it is that its so small sometimes you dont feel it in your pocket. Also I scared me one day freezing up. I thought it was broken, but got online apprently its normal. To reset it just hold the menu button and the center button down for a few seconds. It should reboot to an apple screen.

A word of caution to PC users
Review created: 11/07/06
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought a 2nd Generation 8 GB Nano to supplement (and probably eventually replace) my 20GB Color iPod, which has been developing signs of old age, getting stuck at innopportune moments. I decided that 8 gig is really big enough to listen to the music I actually listen to every day at the gym, and I wanted to replace my disk-based iPod with a solid state device.

My first reaction upon opening the box was astonishment at how small the Nano is! I had never seen one before. It is very slick.

Itunes is pretty smart about letting me update the 8 GB Nano from the music library I had accumulated for my 20 GB iPod. It creates a special playlist for the Nano to define what songs are specifically downloaded to the smaller device. I had actually thought I would have to set up a completely new music library, and go through the tedium of reloading all those CDs.

One extremely important note of caution for PC users: this is the first USB device I have owned (and I own a lot of different USB devices) that really requires a USB 2.0 port. I didn't even realize that my 3-year-old home-brew Windows machine didn't have USB 2.0; it was never really an issue before. Apple says that USB 2.0 is highly recommended for the 2nd generation Nano, but it really should be a hard requirement. The behavior of my PC while trying to talk to the Nano over a USB 1.1 port was truly bizarre. The Nano basically brought the PC to its knees. I was able eventually to start updating the Nano but after 24 hours had only loaded about 400 songs. The response time of my PC during this ordeal was utterly ridiculous. During the day I bought a USB 2.0 PCI card, shut down the PC, installed the card, and was able to finish updating the Nano in a matter of minutes.

This little iPod does wonders! After losing my previous 20 GB Photo, I was ready to get a Nano. But I waited for the 8 GB to come out, and it is terrific! With the 24 hour battery life, and the Stopwatch and Search features, this is not to be left behind! It also has a better stand by battery life, which makes it better when you leave it alone not charging for a few days. It is just like the older Minis, except it's smaller and better! This is the Nano to get!

I absolutely love the new ipod nano. Its way thin, the volume can go higher than before, the Cover Flow feature is just amazing. I had an Ipod nano 4gb 1st gen, it was awesome at first, but after some beatings the screen suddenly stopped working and then it wouldnt charge right and finally it just stopped working altogether. With the new nano, ive already dropped on tile floor by accident and theres no dent or scratch. i hope it can last longer than my first ipod and i have a feeling it will. i have no complaints about the new nano, its absolutely amazing
