A right ripping good yarn. The mystery begins with murder in the Louvre. Professor Langdon, having been called to meeet the curator Louvre, Jacques Sauniere is now suspected of his murder by police inspector Bezu Fasche. But this is no ordinary murder. Jacques Sauniere in his dying moments left a trail of clues the hopefully Sophie Nevue and Professor Langdon would solve. Enter said cryptologist, Sophie Nevue, with her own agenda. Worried for his safety and sure he was not the perpetrator of the crime Nevue whisks Langdon away, bemused and struggling to make sense of the intrigue in which he finds himself. The pace picks up rapidly throughout the book as, peice by peice. Nevue and Langdon discover the stories that have brought them both together and the puzzle they have to try and explain. The burning questions about Jacque Suniere's past and the clues lead from Sauniere to Da Vinci to the Priory of Sion and to the to the possible truth about the Holy grail are answered.

  Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code

I enjoyed this book. Mind you Dan Brown is not a good author, nor is he very creative. Dan Brown actually borrowed an awful lot of information from another source which he did not site or give any credit (because the book is fictional). If you were to read any of Dan Brown's other books (digital fortress, angels and demons, etc.) you will find the exact same type of story with all the same foreshadowing and you will be able to figure out what happens at page 75. If you did not read his other books and are just in for a good story than THIS IS A GREAT NOVEL. I rate it good because I genuinely enjoy the story and the characters. Unfortunately there are people that think that there are hidden facts about christianity and the bible within the pages of this fictional story. While there are some, that I found very interesting, there are just as many fabricated dates and imposed opinions of real people. Read the book because it is a good story....

  DaVinci Code

I have watched the movie many times and have gleaned new information each time. It has been my experience that Hollywood, for reasons of time limits, pick and choose information. I purchased the book to get the full picture of the story to better decide what truth, if any, has been hidden in the subconcious of Mr. Brown. My delimma is that my husband beat me to the copy and now I wait my turn to read the much discussed story. It seems he reads slower every day... hmmmmm.

  Good and fast service
Review created: 01/08/08

I liked the fact I got it at a good price, and didn't have to fight the consumers around Christmas time. The DVD was good, and we also got the book, my husband and I are studying this subject. Everything was in good condition.

  Just an Over-rated Mediocre Mystery
Review created: 10/14/06

At best Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code is just a mediocre modern day mystery with religious conspiracy overtones. The characterization seems like it came straight out of a 70’s made for TV movies. If you have read any mysteries before the plot is paper thin, the first time the true villain makes an appearance, it is basically a “well isn’t that contrite” moment. But it is a fast EASY reading novel. This book is just fine for lounging on the beach or passing the time on a cross country airline flight.

Some people take the conspiracy overtones to being anti-catholic. I think this is just nonsense but if you are sensitive to this sort of thing you might be offended by this book.

A much more interesting book, in a similar venue (modern day mystery with religious conspiracy overtones), is Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco. Be forewarned, Eco’s novel is a MUCH more challenging read but in the end is a more enjoyable novel. It is analogous to comparing cotton candy (Da Vinci Code) to a 12 course gourmet dinner (Foucault’s Pendulum). Both will satisfy hunger, both are a type of food, but the popular one is something which can be consumed casually and in the end leaves you wondering if you should have made an effort to consume something that would have been more fulfilling.

I decided to buy this book because a friend recommended it. I am half way through the book and so far I like the fact that it never stops moving. There is always something happening. It is definitely the description of "page turner." It is hard to put down because you want to find out what happens next. So far very well written and very entertaining. Great book!

And what was this purchase of the DVC for?

I bought this book to use for a magic trick. However, I must admit the storyline is rather interesting and quite attention grabbing. My intent of purchasing this book has been to wow audiences and it has done well thus far. My purchase was rather specific to the edition. Hence, it is this edition that works most easily. Other editions could work but I opted to go the easiest route.
As for a review of the test itself...it is a rather easy and quite fun read. It is understandable why this book made it to the big screen. As Stewie on the Family Guy said something to the effect "It is great. The short chapters make it so easy to put down and start back up again [when needed]". Hence, Stewie raved & so must I.
Do it to it! Purchase and enjoy the read!

The Da Vinci Code Book Review Must Read
Review created: 06/06/06

While studying art history at the University of Seville in Spain, Dan Brown learned of the mysteries hidden in Da Vinci’s paintings. Years later while researching at the Vatican Secret Archives, Brown was once again captivated by the Da Vinci enigma. He arranged a trip to the Louvre Museum to view Da Vinci’s original paintings. With the help of an art historian to understand the paintings, he researched further and wrote the novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’ which became an other one of his best sellers but with more success this time.
Dan Brown is one of the most popular suspense writer of our age. His books are full of suspense and The Da Vinci Code is no exception. His books are one of the most popular ones and anyone who talks about Brown knows that he is talking about a suspense writer, a ‘Shakespeare’ of suspense novels.
His three other books were also best sellers and all of them put the characters‘ lives in danger and they have to fight for their lives. The Da Vinci Code is the sequel to Brown’s previous book ‘Angels and Demons’ which has a similar setting to The Da Vinci Code and with the same main character: Robert Langdon.
Robert is a Harvard University teacher and he teams up with Sophie Neveu, a born cryptologist, in a breathless race from Paris to London and beyond finding clues on the way to get the secret that Sophie’s father, a member of the Priory of Sion has tried to pass on to her, before dying from a gunshot, while keeping it from the wrong hands. The secret has been guarded for centuries by the Priory’s members which includes Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo and other famous geniuses. The suspicion of the murder of the curator (Sophie’s father) falls on Robert and so he has to escape the police and the Opus Dei ( a Vatican sanctioned Catholic sect) with Sophie and at the same time uncover the secret.
This book is simply put as a must-read and you should be borrowing or buying a copy right now! It has gut-wrenching suspense that has been never experienced before with astonishing revelations and twists in the plot. This book will appeal to almost all mature minded people (not children but teenagers and above). It is a novel which can be read time and again and people can actually sit down and interpret it from different people’s viewpoints.
As this book is full of suspense I feel that there should be a bit of ‘breathing room’ for readers as the story keeps revealing astonishing points of the plot which puts you right back into the book and you don’t feel like putting it down and even if you do manage to put the book down you can’t stop speculating ideas in your mind about the book. it’s a god thing that it is hard to explain the books plot and conclusion to someone so you don’t have to give away ‘spoilers‘. I haven't told you anything except what the book is about as I don't want to spoil your fun. Better buy it.
