Strong, effective rendering of artist and his times
I enjoyed this from start to finish. Even though it asks you to suspend your belief in dramatic fashion, the movie holds together beautifully and I was never really disturbed by the various devices used. Some people, no doubt, will be. If you want a love story, this is a particularly poignant one. If you want some background to the great art of the post-WWI period, this is earthy and sensual, just as I believe the times to have been. Nicely balanced throughout (except perhaps for the "absinthe" scene in the zinc bar near the end) it is also a very well-casted movie. The two principals are more than satisfactory, and this Picasso is also well rendered. Two thumbs up.
