  Awesome New Harvest Moon Game

This is a well done new Harvest Moon game for the DS platform. In this game you are working to save the 101 Harvest sprites from being stuck in another world forever. It is not entirely clear how you bring them back, but I think it has to do with you completing specific tasks. As long as you play and do a variety of farming things you should have no problem bringing them back. In the game you use the touch screen to manage your stuff in you are carrying, see stats, and watch the television channels. Using the arrow key you move you character around on the top screen. Just some of thing you can do in this game are cook, grow crops, expand your farm, and find a girlfriend. I find this game to be my favorite Harvest Moon game. One thing I had a problem with was figuring out how to save. It is actually quite simple tap save then tap diary 1 or diary 2. I was just convinced at fist that you double tapped or only needed to tap the save and the diary was an entirely different function.

Most people might see a cartoon farmer and go straight for the 'this is for kids' judgement. Those people would be dead wrong.

While the game has graphics comparable to GBA games, it is just as indepth as all previous Harvest Moon games. From milking cows using the touch screen and planting/harvesting plants to mining for precious minerals and fishing on the beach, there is always something to do. If you have never played a Harvest Moon game and you own a DS, I would strongly suggest you add this to your library.

Good game depending on two conditions

Another Harvest Moon game, comprehensive, playability, etc.

A great game in it's own light, but if you have played either Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town or Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, you may want to look for another game to play. This game mostly recycles the graphics from FoMT, and has all of AWL's storyline. Granted, the producers added some new characters, a new basis storyline, as well as a new premise which give you lots of activities and goals to work towards, but the (large) portion of the game spent making friends and growing livestock and produce on your farm is just like in the aforementioned games.

About half an hour into the game I realized that I have already played this game before.

If you haven't played FoMT or AWL much or at all, go ahead and get it, but if you have, you may want to consider options

This Game is extremely addicting, if your the type of person who enjoys RPG ish type of games. It is a little slow to get used to though. I suggest looking at guides on the internet. The graphics are pretty good for the DS. The music gets annoying. Its a great game to pass the time. I use it while riding the train, or am on an airplane. I can easily play it for about an hour before I want to change games. There is always something new to be discovered in it. However, like most other RPG's after wards it leaves you with the feeling like, i just spent 2 hours of my life growing corn and milking cows. SO I do suggest only playing it when you really don't have much else to do because it is addicting. This game utilizes both screens on the DS extremely well. I wouldn't pay more than 20 to 25 bucks for it though. Only get it if you are the type ofperson that likes RPG's. I guarantee you if you dont like RPG's you will HATE this game and find it a waste of money.

Addictive and Engaging.... Fun for All!

In January 2008, I received Harvest Moon DS as a gift. My close friends and family know that I have been a Harvest Moon fan since the very first game came out 10 years ago, and I have purchased and played every one since!

Harvest Moon for the DS is a good, clean game suitable for most ages. I don't recommend it for ages 7 or under simply because you need to be able to read to successfuly play it. I am curretly 31 and I enjoy it very much, and I have found it to be VERY addicting. Like all the other Harvest Moon games I just can't stop playing, and my family gets annoyed at how much time I spend playing it... it's THAT good! It's also great being on a DS because it's portable, so it can be played anywhere. I really like that, and have played at many a doctor's appointment, lol.

What this game is about:
In the beginning, the Witch Princess casts a spell on the Harvest Goddess and 101 Sprites that all reside in Forget-Me-Not Valley. The spell causes the Harvest Goddess and the Sprites to vanish into another world. Luckily they have you to help, or should I say, your character. It's up to you to help the Witch Princess by finding the sprites. Once you find 60 sprites the Harvest Goddess returns. The games does not stop there! You still have the remaining sprites left to find, as well as other challenges to complete.

In this game you can court and marry a few new characters. There is a mermaid, there is a character who resides in the mines, the Witch Princess, and even the Harvest Goddess. Allowing you to court and marry these characters adds a new spin to the game. Once married, you can also have a child.

There are 4 mines to unlock, the the 4th mine is monsterous in that it has over 30,000 floor! Another new feature to the series of games is that you have dark creatures to fight and kill in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mines. Of course, each mine is larger and harder to get through.

You need to keep your farm going by raising your livestock, planting and harvesting crops, mining, unlocking all the sprites and harvest goddess, upgrading your tools and accessories, and upgrading your house and farm.

There are still most of the same characters as you see in past versions of the game, so there is a familar flavor to the game if you have played any Harvest Moon games in the past.

I have fully enjoyed playing this game. It has given endless hours of engaging entertainment and I do recommend it to anyone. Happy Playing!

  Harvest Moon DS

I like the game. It has several things that I enjoy over the other Harvest Moon games. I've played the other games and I love playing them. This particular one gives you more choices, basically. The thing that I have disliked is that my game keeps locking up and losing information. The graphics keep messing up and I have lost quite a bit because of this. Sometimes, when I leave a building, the game freezes and you have to turn it off. I haven't had problems with any other games, so it's not my DS, it's the game itself.

  Great DS Game

I love the harvest moon games, and this one did not disappoint! The only complaint I had was that you could only be a boy, but some of them choose for you and some let you choose so its not a major issue. The touch screen did make it funner than previous gameboy platform HM games. I personally do not like that you must get 60 sprites before you can marry a girl, it becomes annoying after a while.

  Fun and lots to do

THE GOOD:

A unique story.

More to do than just farming.

Some great mini games.

Always fun to play.

A nice change from all the violent games.

Some great character designs.

The ability to get married.

Hidden mini games.

The ability to raise a child.

They've given all the characters their own dislikes and likes and personalities.

The ability to view heart events.
THE BAD:

You can marry girls from the other gameboy advance games but your game immediately ends.

Full of glitches

After getting married there's not a lot to do

You can only have a boy child
SUMMARY:
I know what you're thinking. "A Farming Game?" Well it's not just about farming. You have to get married, find sprites and many other things. The basic plot to the game is a goddess, known as the harvest goddess, has been turned into stone by a princess, known as the witch princess. So then the witch princess sends all the sprites to find her. Then she turns the task onto you so you must collect 60 sprites to save the harvest goddess. You get harvest sprites by doing jobs around the farm and outside of the farm. The storyline makes it a great game.

Although you're a farmer in this game there is much more to do than just farm. You can get married, raise a child, play mini games, collect accessories and many many more. Though towards the farming part of the game you can plant crops, like plant some tomato seeds and water it until it grows into a tomato. To plant them you use the hoe then simply plant the seeds. As far as taking care of animals it's not that hard. You basically buy some yarn and put it into their food boxes. If you want them to win farming competitions you groom them with the brush. They use the heart points system for this too. Like, let's say you had 8 hearts on a single cow then if you enter them you have a higher chance of winning the competition. I mentioned some mini games, there are quite a few like the girl fighting mini games. Basically in this game you play it like a final fantasy fighting style, not with swords but with tools, like fighting the girls you can marry. The grooming mini game, if you use this on your animals they will have a higher chance of getting another heart.

If you have ever played the games on Gameboy Advance you can marry the girls from that game if you plug it into the DS while playing Harvest Moon DS. Though when you get married to one of them your game immediately ends as you move to Mineral Town. Although I've heard if you buy the version 'Cute' then you wont have to leave.

This has a great replay value. I'm constantly playing it. I usually restart and try to marry all the girls.

The whole game is drawn in anime form. The cute graphics in the game give it a true Harvest Moon feel.

In this game there are things known as 'Heart Events', which are like small cut scenes of dates. If you view one of these a person's love points will go up quite a bit.

If you don't get what I mean by love points it's like how much they like you, as in if you gave them a lot of gifts they will like you more so their love points will go up. There is also a friendship points system, which basically works the same. You can only get love points with the girls that are available to marry but the friendship points are for anyone.

  Harvest Moon DS

Compared to the other previous Harvest Moon Games, It is better because there is more to do on the game. Such as there are more crops, more advanced levels to the mines and more things you have to work hard for. The game play is more diverse and it is really cool that you can grow crops in your basement. I can't wait to try the newest Harvest Moon Game that has recently come out because every game has been much better than the last.

A Harvest of Simulated Farming Fun!
Review created: 07/03/08
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Harvest Moon DS is a simulation game where the player is responsible for running a farm in order to ensure the return of an NPC known as the Harvest Goddess.

Gameplay flows through the four seasons of the year (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) and the Player can do everything from run a crop-centered farm, a farm with animals on it, or a farm that is a combination of both. To help with daily chores are stores to buy items from, arrange for buildings (anything from a silo, a bird shed, house enlargements, or a pond), and a blacksmith who's willing to use the Player's mined ore to upgrade their tools for them. Days on the farm can be sunny and clear, rainy and overcast, or even so torrential that the Player's character has no choice but to remain in the house during a raging storm which will leave branches and rocks to pick up later. The Player even has the option of choosing one of a group of young ladies for their character to give gifts to, woo, and marry. Even a mermaid!

The actual look of the game is comparable to the Pokemon games where most of the screen time is taken by a camera view looking down on the main character. When the Player talks to another character their picture appears on the bottom screen along with the text of the conversation.

There are 101 Harvest Sprites to locate in the game in order to return the Harvest Goddess to her proper world, and the Player must deal with the fact that the way you "locate" them is by actually getting your daily chores of getting rid of weeds, chopping branches for wood, smashing rocks for stones, and general good farm boy business done.

The music in the game does not detract from its play/replay value, as the music is used sparingly and not for so long that its repetition gets on the nerves. In fact, for much of the gameplay it seems to not even be used at all. This makes rainy days on the game relaxing since you have no music cluttering up the rainwater sound effect.

Made for the DS and it's touch screen, this game makes use of the stylus primarily when the Player is interacting with their animals (you pet the dog, cat and horse via it, along with milking your cows and shearing your sheep). This is done on the game once the Player's character has purchased a "Touch Glove" Tool. Otherwise the majority of the game is controlled by way of button pushing and directional controls, which is nice when you are trying to get the most mileage out of that touch screen that you can.

This game is best suited to those who prefer simulation games, such as the Pokemon series, being as it is yet another of them; the lack of fighting in it, however, makes it seem less suitable for those who like simulation/horror games such as the Silent Hill or Resident Evil series.

Truthfully I wish I could rate this game between the Good and Excellent ratings, with something more like a 4.5 out of 5 points sort of thing, but Good is good enough. If simulation games are your "thing" you just might enjoy Harvest Moon.

Great game to play and a good sequel to the Harvest Moon series. Totally recommended to anyone. Compared to Harvest Moon: Magical Melodies, it can't compare. But it is still an awesome game to play since it is one of the portable games you can take with you while on the go. Totally recommended fot any one.

Fun if not a little hard

Your average HM game plot but mixed with a lot of little extras to make the game last way past one year of planting. However there are some things that are a little challenging. For one, finding at least 60 sprites to get married. But that is one of the things that makes the game more drawn out. Mining is also a challenge but as long as you stock up on health items, you'll do fine. My faorite part is the ability to interact with the animals. I love the petting and brushing feature with the touch screen. Overall this is a wonderful game for all ages.

I love nearly all versions of Harvest Moon and this is no exception. Great game play that you would expect from this game. The only draw back I feel is that all of your shops are "phoned" in from Mineral Town. Somehow I feel slighted by this, especially since the PS2 version of Harvest Moon in Forget me Not Valley had all your shops right at home.

Overall though it's a perfect game for any Harvest Moon fan with a DS.

Great game. Simple concept, but the depth and complexity of daily life as well as your actions in relation to the bigger picture ensure that even after you "beat" the game, you can go back and make entirely different choices with new results.

I like the fact that it is not just another easy game that does not offer any challenge but doesn't delete you just because you die. I love the challenge of staying alive in the mines long enough to reach the bottome- but did not like that fact that there wasn't anything waiting for me at the bottom of the third mine after I struggled to make it down all 999 levels. also- i don't know how to get the fishing pole yet.
