I happened upon this movie as I was switching channels back in the late 60's when I was around 8 years old. I thought it was the best movie I'd ever seen up until that point because it was about a boy, roughly my age, and in my opinion it was better than that that "girl" movie, called The Wizard Of Oz, and I compared the two, especially since the endings were somewhat similar.

The songs were all catchy, and the story-line kept me glued to the couch. The Dungeon Elevator song has stuck in my head all these years but for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of the movie. As the years went on, I would often try and explain the movie to my friends, but no one knew of it. Thanks to Google, a few years back I was able to find the name of it, even though I'm still sure back then, it was called "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. Terwilliker" and not, "Dr. T".
When I received it in the mail, my kids were with me and they could tell I was happy to finally have it in my hands because I had told them the story of this movie countless times. We watched it together and although they liked some parts, they weren't as thrilled about it as I was at the age of 8, but then again, if I had exciting movies such as Spiderman & Fantastic Four to watch along with all the video games to play at that age, maybe I would have felt the same way. (we had a black & white TV and I didn't even know this movie was in color until I put in the DVD....that was an added bonus)
For me, it took me back to being a kid again, sitting on couch, mesmerized to what was going to happen once Bart & Mr. Zabladowski made their bottle of "MusicFix".
Watching it again after all these years, it didn't live up to my memory of it, but I was, and still am, happy to finally own a copy of it and I'm sure every few years I'll watch it again, in order to take me back to the simpler times in my life.
Bottom line, is if you have young kids, and especially young boys, this is a good classic movie to own.

Cute movie, good music. I enjoyed it. I bought it to share in my classroom for Dr. Suess day, but I'm not sure that it will hold the attention of today's second graders. We'll see...

  Great Fun

Roy Rowland directed The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953)- a musical conceived by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). With the perfect actor, Hans Conried portraying the "evil" Dr. Terwilliger, a slightly pre-space age set full of Dr. Seuss' sets, and a fun score. Hollywood musical titans Frederick Hollander, Nelson Riddle, and others worked magic with the orchestra. Don't miss the dungeon musical sequence. Great for families. Tommy Rettig of Lassie fame plays the hero.

" It's Atomic!"

Thie film is one of my all time favorite childhood films. Although it is not from my time I would still recommend seeing this movie. It is great for all audiences. Dr. Suess is a genius.
