I was ripped off on Ebay in buying a backhoe that was misrepresented as to: 1) model year (2002 vs 2001); 2) hp (30hp vs 20hp); and, condition) excellent vs hydrostatic transmission bad). I only found out when I called the mfg for service manual because of the transmission problem and the serial number did not match the description given. I could not even find a means to provide my experience to warn others of the potential rip off. I was locked out from proving any feed back to their site even though there was clear misrepresentation. I got a BS response to my emails from the seller stating they thought what they listed was correct. What are going to say" that they lied"? The transaction was out of state and my lawyer said the expense to pursue would not be practical. It is clear that Ebay does not want any negative feed back for your interest is the seller commission. Ebay providing any buyer protection apparently does not exist.
I hope the third party liability suits against Ebay gain some traction for you are not protecting the buyers from fraud. That clearly affects the potential buyer market for people like myself warn people of the problems with buying on Ebay. I wrote CBS 60 min after they exposed fraud on Ebay hoping that my transaction would make TV and my inability to even register a complaint. This is the closest means I have found to provide some feed back.
The concept of Ebay is great , but until you equally protect the buyers I don't believe that you can realize the your market potential.
