This movie help me inspire to sell on ebay. Owning your own business card as an ebay service was a good part about the movie. You can network your business card to strangers.

  This movie is embarrassingly funny!

The 40-year-old Virgin is an absolutely hilarious movie about a man, who at 40 is still a virgin, and knows very little about women, his friends at the electronics store attempt help him lose his virginity, while he is falling in love with a women he meets, and doesn't know how to tell about his 'situation.' This movie is very entertaining because Steve Carell has the ability to embarass himself and make you laugh and feel embarassed for him. Very entertaining!!!

  The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Imagine you combined a few of the best parts of Something about Mary, 40 days and 40 nights, Sideways and ( as strange as it might sound) an after school special. Now, throw in more profanity than really necessary and imagine that the combination worked.

Plus, unlike the Josh Hartnett film, 40 days and 40 nights, there is some actual thought given to the kind of person who is shown.

It's not Shakespeare. It's not Once Upon a Time In Mexico. And it's not the Usual Suspects, but for what it is it works.

And what it is, is the smartest dumb movie I've seen in a very long time.

Among its many surprises, is you have a peer group of men who actually look out for each other.

You also have an attractive grandmother who is not the standard cookie-cutter grandmother.

These are just two of the many departures from the expected that make this anything but the one-note comedy that the commercials make it seem like.

The 40 year-old is cut from the same cloth as Steve Martin's early masterpiece, the Jerk, and as someone in his thirties, it's refreshing to see a funny movie, where the main character is not a 20-something.

Plus, the soundtrack is a surprising combination of some of the forgotten treasures of pop and broadway.

Perhaps, the best of all, it's nice to be reminded that everyone is running on their own schedule in life.

  Hits and misses

This movie was full of hits and misses for me. I have mixed feelings about Steve Carell to begin with because sometimes he’s really funny, but sometimes he’s just stupid. The movie was pretty much the same. There were funny parts but a lot of it was stupid. However, the funny moments probably outweighed the stupid ones.

  The 40 Year Old Virgin

In my opinion, this unique movie is a hit- especially if you like the acting style of Steve Carrell (sarcastic and stupidly funny) AND can get around the fact that the storyline contains MANY references to and graphic descriptions of sex that are sometimes quite crude. If you can't see the humor in this sort of thing- or at least get past it-- you definitely will NOT like this movie.

Andy (Carrell) is a socially awkward 40 year old who has never "done the deed." He makes the horrible mistake of revealing his "secret" to his buddies from work during a poker game and his life is forever changed... His buddies vow to help him end his virginity and begin giving him a bunch of LOUSY advice about women, which of course he follows. They also have a lot of fun at Andy's expense, poking fun of his "situation." Meanwhile, Andy meets a woman he really likes. They start dating, but he is afraid to tell her he is a virgin and is actually AFRAID to have sex with her. Not knowing he is a virgin, she totally can't understand his apparent lack of sexual interest.

One thing I really found refreshing about this entire sex-obsessed storyline is that although Andy is ostracized for his virginity throughout the movie, the point that staying a virgin was HIS CHOICE and that he was ultimately saving himself for the right person- even at age 40- is driven home in the end. (Although I have to say that point almost appears to have been thrown in as an afterthought, as it only comes up at the very END of the movie.)

40 Year Old Virgin has to be one of the funniest movies made! If you liked the comedies Wedding Crashers and Old School, this is the movie for you. Just like the other titles I mentioned, 40 Year Old Virgin is not for kids!

The 40- Year- Old Virgin (2005, DVD) is wonderful! =]

I loved every minute of 40 year old virgin! =] I am a girl and I even found humor in the traditionally male humor found in the movie funny. The movie opens with Andy walking though his house with a hard-on. Wow what an attention getter. Some memorable lines... "Do you like to do it yourself?" "Did you actually say that she was 'hurtin for a squirtin'? and many more!!! Would recommend this movie to anyone young or old, and it would be perfect for a night at home date movie! =] I would definitely spring for the unrated version...those are always better.

I wasn't expecting this to be so good!

Honestly I was not expecting to like this at all, it was hyped right along with all the other "comedies" such as Anchorman, Dodgeball, Napolean Dynamite . all of which I could not stand and did not find humorous in the least. I, however LOVED 40 year old virgin and went out to buy it right away! It was a tad long but worth it, it has raunchy yet honest humor, I was cracking up throughout the whole movie! It may not be for everyone due to the graphic language and humor. Definitely one of the funniest movies I have ever seen! CHECK IT OUT!

Boring as Heck! Could hardly keep my eyes open! no funny dialogue at all, I thought since it was a comedy and hence the risque title it would have more funny dialogue or situations between the actors! I guess if the 1 b@@b popping out was a plus then you will really enjoy. I am blown away that someone reviewed this saying it was DEEP, provound and the best comedy? They need to get out of their black hole, for sure

This is a funny, dirty nasty little prize of a film. My 17 year old son just laughs like hell when he hears the indian guy start to describe nasty, nasty things. We all watch it together as a family, but not all families should watch it if you are embarressed by foul language and other sexual items. Overall, very funny and such a cheapo price! Yippee!!

I won this item, sent payment, was told the item had been shipped, waited and waited, then waited some more, the conclusion being, I never received the DVD and the seller has been booted from ebay. I did receive a refund, but my observance, be careful out there, thank goodness this was a small purchase!!!

This is a very original movie. An old story, wise tail that makes it to cinema. Turns into a loveable story. For the guy or gal that feels like they have outgrown the American Pie series. I would highly recommend this with 4 stars out of 5.

If you like Steve Carril this will show him in a little different light but just as funny.

This movie shows that Steve Carell can play the part of the main character. With the Unrated Version, you can see 17 more minutes than in the original, but what a funny 17 minutes. A great DVD all around.

ONE OF THOSE YOU WISH YOU HAD NOT WACTHED

This was a stupid, silly and unentertaining movie. I do not know if this is like the "Three Stooges" where men will like it and women do not. I did not find but only a few funny parts in the entire film. I would not let any of my children of any age watch this. And wish I had not have lasted two hours of my life watching it. Not a keeper!

We Laughed Out Loud Many Times!
Review created: 05/11/06

2 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This is the funniest movie I've seen in years! My husband and I laughed out loud many times throughout the entire movie. Tears were rolling, folks! Here's the basic story: Poor Andy, a recluse who loves to collect vintage toys and play video games rather than attempt making emotional connections with women accidentally admits to being a virgin during an impromptu poker game with his co-workers. From then on it becomes the mission of the more experienced guys to get him "hooked up". The story is actually quite sensitive and sweet, aside from the foul language and sexual content. If you are easily offended, you won't like this movie. But the language definitely fits the characters, so I had no problem with it.

Too much F--k in this movie and too much dirty words.
Waste of my money. To make this movie funny there are no reasons to put F--k
in this movie. Can't enjoy a movie with too much dirty words and F--k.

  HILARIOUS!
Review created: 02/09/06
2 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This is the best comedy I've seen in a long time. While some parts are very predictable (who didnt know that the drunk chick would throw up on Andy) it was very enteraining with great supporting performances by Catherine Keener and Seth Rogan. The best parts of the movie was the male bonding - when Andy and his new found pals at Smart Tech are hanging out, their shenanigans are hilarious. Since buying this DVD I must have watched it (and I am not exaggerating) at least once a day. One thing I didnt not find intersting were the extra features - the commentary on the scenes were very boring. But no big deal, the movie was worth the cost of the DVD and then some.

This movie was way funny, infact I cant think of another movie where I laughed as hard as I did at this one, I mean my stomach started hurting I laughed so hard and everyone that I let borrow the movie agrreed. lol.

But if your squemish of language then stay away, if you have young children send them to their room or wait till their bedtime, the f word is used so much but honestly it is used in a funny way, and my wife hates that word but loved the movie so you see, it was halarious.
