The 48 Laws of Power by Joost Elffers, Robert Greene (2000, Paperback)

I read this book and should have practiced it much more. One of the passages that stands out was not to outshine your superior. I did this at my last job and it cost me mine. Jealousy and greed will overule honor in todays age. It is sad that the world has come to this, but its better to be prepared for what life and the workplace have to offer than be a victim like I was. I am self employed now and if I ever have a boss again I will follow this book to the T.

This book has important information regarding how to achieve success on any thing you undertake. You can apply these rules to everyday life, and they will help you to achieve your goals. Based on "court life" where survival was dependant of diplomacy, and manuvering situations to your favor... consider this book. It will help you in situations you encounter at work, at home, and at play.

I would never use most of these methods against people, but it's nice to become aware of them. I now know when someone is using these against me and I can deal with each situation much more calmly and logically.

This is probably the closest thing to a satanic wicca writing that I've ever seen. Almost all of the "laws" but 1 or 2 are completely selfish and evil. Promotes and pushes rediculous notions like stepping on others, lying to others, and giving up your morals to "get to the top". Wow...

I'd previously had this book but lost it. The book basically tells you how to handle people in different situations but the Bible is still the best book to learn how to live life.

I bought it for my friend. It seems to be a popular book with my friends. I have to agree that the messages portrayed in the book can be utilized by all!! It is an easy read and great advice!! It has real life implication in every chapter. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't live by any false pretenses or expectations. If you are an open-minded person that doesn't take things too literally, then there are definitely some passages that will stick with you in your everyday life and benefit you. Originally I had purchased this book to do some research as to why certain criminal organizations have adopted the material as their guidlines. Mainly I speak of prison gangs and in this particular instance, the Aryan Brotherhood. However, after further research it is discovered that the Black Guirella Family have introduced a class and testing process for their members on the subject matter.
At first glance you would agree with these particular organizations as to why they would actually utilize the book. More the 75% of the laws in themselves would be considered amoral to any person that has good work ethics and are of high moral character. With such passages as Law 7 "Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit",Law 12 "Use selective honesty and generosity", and Law 21 "Play a sucker to catch a sucker" it would be hard to beleive that the author had any other intention but of "cutthroat" style business.
That is until you actually read the material. Taking into account all the historical accounts and examples that make up the rights and wrongs of each Law, you get a sense that in reality you could use these laws to your advantage in the form of defense. Watching those around you and how they work you find it easier to apply a particular law to them and how they work, making it much easier for you to counter their plans.
I would recommend anyone in the world of business and criminal justice to read this book for that particular reason. It helps you to better identify those that are of the criminal mind, creating an outlook of what path they might be heading in. Moreover, a good defense is a great offense. So pulling the laws that would work for your moral character to counterattack their intentions will reap benefits for those that apply them.
I recommend the book to those with excellent character and who wish to get the edge up on those who wish to dimean them in any way. This book will give you the tactical advantage of knowing and understanding those out to harm you.

The book gives good information and has some interesting tidbits of knowledge which can be applied to every day life.
