I've never been a fan of the 2K series of hockey games. They're decent but just don't deliver the goods the way I hoped they would!

Here's my list of reasons why:

- Too easy to score
- Gameplay not realistic
- Players look like they're floating not skating
- Unlockable teams only have numbers on jerseys not actual players
- Controls are awkward and hard to get used to
- Put in features that most people will find repulsive

NHL 2K6 did build on the greatness of the 2K5 dynasty/franchise mode. But I just didn't find this game very fun. It was alright, but the additions to the gameplay I found stupid. Most of the mini-games sucked, and the unlockables suck.

A plus side to this game is the multi-player pond hockey mode.

Overall, like other 2K NHL games, 2K6 just doesn't do it for me.

Rent or Buy?: As I said at the beginning, I've never been a fan of the 2K series of hockey games, if you're looking for a great Hockey game pick up a copy of NHL 06 for multiplayer and NHL 07 for Xbox 360 for overall play.

don't listen to the guy that wrote the first review. he obviously doesn't know anything about hockey video games. i will say the graphics are not a good as i thought they should be for a "next-gen" system, but they are way better than the old school xbox. he also said something about the puck is highlighted, well you can simply turn that off. ea has a good hockey game, but 2k has the best hockey game. there is a reason 2k is the best selling hockey game on the market. the gameplay is perfect. it plays like a hockey game should. i used to be hard core ea nhl until 2000 when nhl2k came out on the dreamcast. i have been playing hockey video games since nhl '94, so i know a good one when i play one.

I was excited to find out that a hockey game would be released on opening day. Only to be extremely disappointed. I purchased it that night and returned it by noon the next day. This gam can not even compare to EA games. The graphics on this game is horrible. If you have a Niendo 64 the graphics on that hockey game is 10 times better. During gameplay the puck is highlighted and is huge. Dont let the box pictures fool you. Nowhere are the graphics that good. I am dissapointd that Xbox 360 would allow this game to be run on there system. Unless you can get the game for $5.00 it is not worth it. If you are any sort of a Hockey fan WAIT FOR EA to come out with their game.

Good game, poor gameplay, but overall i would recommend it.

My son loves hockey and we were looking in the stores for this game for Xbox 360. Couldn't find it. So my son said, Mom, what about ebay? So he went on and found it. We ordered it and it came fast, in great condition and my son loves it. We are very happy! We love ebay!!!!!

This game kicks ass. The graphics are good, the physics are sweet, not to mention the gameplay. This game is awesome. It sometimes has little glitches though, but i'd immagine a patch will be out soon, and maybe it's just my 360 but sometimes when i go to save, it says all my files are damaged and so i have to go back to the dashboard, but when i get there they're all fine. It pisses me off. It could be my disc, or my Xbox.... still an awesome game

this is the best hockey game ever. light years ahead of any EA Sports game.
After you play this you will never play another hockey game. It is for real hockey fans, so if your not dont even bother. Stick with BORING BASEBALL.

I recently purchased this game for my xbox 360 because the xbox version the I owned and worked does not work on the 360. This game was obviously not completly tested before release because it has freezing issues after you complete one game, 2K6 games knows about the problem but only gives suggestions on how to fix this problem and if they don't work they say it must be your xbox 360. Graphics aren't as good as they make them look. Very easy and unrealistic game play. I'm glad I didn't pay new price.

Update: recently took my game back to walmart and exchanged for a new copy and the game seems to be working fine now.

I loved that there are only 5 achievements for this game. The only achievement that was a pain was to score on a penalty shot. The game barely got any penalties against me. All in all took around 4 hours.

I bought this game because it was at a good price and it had been a long time since I had played a hockey game that I was ready to try something different. The game has good graphics and the game play was user friendly but here is the bad part. It seems that according to other customer reviews as well as fan feedback on 2KSPORTS website that a number of these 2K6 Hockey games came off the
production line and were bad. This game would play all the way thru until you went to exit back to the menu screen and it would freeze up. It didn't matter if you were in exhibition or season mode it did the same thing. You would have to shut down your console to reboot the game. If I had to do it over again I would not buy this piece of junk. I ended up buying EA sports NHL07. Buyer beware when you bid on this game. I wouldn't take the gamble if I were you.

NHL 2K6 is full of features and has great game play. But the Graphics are pretty bad for a Next-Gen title on the 360. Madden 06 was known for having great graphics but pretty shallow on the features and that was true even though it played fine. KUSH games must have spent time making sure all the current Gametypes like Franchise, Skybox, Pond Hockey and more remained in this version and spent less development time into the looks. One great improvement is now you can control the goal keeper and that adds a new twist on the gameplay, it is a welcome addition, I also like that you can skate backwards now by holding a trigger and you can also control the hockeystick by using the right toggle. Overall i would recommend this game to any hockey fan for it's solid gameplay. If you can ignore poor graphics you will have a good time with this game.

Nothing like spending hours designing players, setting up a season mode and then find out the game freezes at the end of every game when you go to save. There is no reason to even try season mode since you will not be able to progress. I thought this was an individual game problem...but I had the same problem with another NHL 2K6 on the normal xbox game system. After I was having so many problems with the saving I went online to see if this was normal and sure enough this problem is happening everywhere.

I am really amazed that the game was not tested more thoroughly to see that there was such a huge problem. It is really unfortunate because the game play is actually great.

I guess I will have to wait until the next hockey game is out on the 360.

This game is OK. The graphics are OK. Online play is sometimes hard to connect to people. Check it out!

This is by far the most true to life gameplay in any hockey game I've ever played. The graphics alone will blow you away, but then add in the new Crease Control feature to control the 'Tenders and you've got the most well rounded NHL game to date.

the graphics rule and u know it is always fun to smash people through the glass the mini games are cool and me and two of my friends played this all night and about 4 hours was just the mini games the dynasty mode is fun like always i hate hockey in real life but i love the video games cause like i said i love smashing people through glass i think if this didnt have mini games i would still give this a 5 out of 5 i only have eight words buy it buy it buy it buy it trust me u will probly love this game so i give it a 5 out of 5

Nice game but nothing like the EA sports series. Game is outdated but fun. You can pick this up very cheap too, so a nice game to boost your gamer score.

Controls for this are not as hard as some of the 2K series, however for the young it can be confusing as to who they are on the ice. Good for the single player.

This game was so disappointing I've nearly broken the disc on a few occasions. 2K sports in general do not treat their games the same way EA sports does. The players in this game hardly resemble the real players. The menu screen is so complicated and difficult to figure out. There are constant glitches in the game that make things frustrating. They have only created 3 AI to be in the audience. When the screen pans out to show the fans, it looks like a cloning session gone very bad because everyone is the exact same! The game announcer says different things than what shows on the screen (example I won 7 games in a row and it showed that on the screen. Then the announcer said: "The leafs have now won 3 in a row). Little things like that is what makes me upset. The creators of NHL 2k6 and any 2K sports, don't treat their product with respect. I am a die-hard hockey fan and I want to see hockey shown in its truest form. When a crappy job is done like this game...it just makes me upset! DO NOT BUY 2K SPORTS! Buy EA sports. They respect the game of hockey, they respect their hockey game. They put their time into the tiny details that make games great.

I used to own NHL 2K5, and this game seems like a step down from that. The controls don't work anywhere near as well. Hitting is harder to connect than 2K5, as the animation for the hit goes off but your player slides off the opposing player without anything happening. Yet, when the opposition just gets too close to you the puck magically transfers from you to them. No check, no poke, nothing. Also, computer player executes the toughest moves with such precision and accuracy on any difficulty that it makes it frustrating to defend. Especially your own defenders are so bad because they never pressure the opposition, they just keep backpedaling waiting for something to happen.

Also, the game is very buggy. I've owned the PS2 version of this game AND the 360 version and both have horrible problems with freezing. Once you've completed a game and are exiting to the main menu to save the game will freeze quite often, making you lose the game you had just played. There is no way to fix it and it can occur any and every game you play.

Bottom line, DON'T GET THIS GAME. Even if it's just for the easy 360 achievements, it's not worth it.

Too easy to get 360 points. Too hard to make players fight.Team that are not equal in the game are equal. Small number of the best player in the game are better than the rest.
